Looks like the best method is to pay your mechanic to remove it, do an ultrasonic clean, then give it to the wife for a few hours and get her to give it a once over with a scrubbing brush. She'll find dirt where there isnt any and scrub it to a mirror finish. Then lovingly deliver it back to your mechanic and get him to reinstall it. Love the video though, not sure about the cheesy tunes but we've all been limited to royalty free music from time to time 😂
Thanks, in the process of doing this - couple of questions - how much coolant did you lose removing the EGR and second do you know the part reference for the new gasket please?
Best cleaning agent to use for the EGR assembly is oven cleaner foam from the household , it dissolves all that soot in no time, spirit was a bad choice.
@frank o'brien indeed, it's corrosive to aluminium and makes the soot stick even more - alternative is acetone but again can cause corrosion if left for too long...

Where did you get the gasket? Do you the part number of it?

How much mileage?.
How long it took to get clogged before you clean it?

Would be better with words
there was a recall for the egr valve by volvo
I think they only changed some hoses from the EGR, not the EGR itself.
Yeah the recall changed the s bend pipe into a T bend still clogs though
