    There are some that are making negative comments .The purpose of this was to show how the proses works without having to take the EGR valve out, and was taken out as an observation.I have a vehicle that requires the engine to be taken out to change the EGR valve so for me this video proved invaluable thanks for posting

    I tried using Wynn's EGR cleaner. The add to fuel type and forget about. Next week I took my EGR off the car took it in my kitchen to clean properly using "elbow grease" from pound world (I've used every degreaser on the planet and this is the best). Anyway the EGR was a solid lump of sticky carbon inside. No way could the valve open or close.. Soaked it in elbow grease for half hour. Boiled kettle and poured it over. Result nice and clean. Valve moves nice and freely now..I've blanked the EGR now. 20% better fuel efficiency..the brim it drive for 400 miles and brim it again test..4 times I've done that now..amazed at the results. Engines like clean cool air not dirty warm air. .

    I was contemplating these products but decided to have a go at cleaning the EGR on my 100K 2.0d X-Type myself. I sort of thought that if I struggled getting it off I could tighten everything back up and use the spray anyway. With some excellent, easy to find help on some of the Jag forums I found the valve much easier to remove than I expected using just a 1/4" ratchet with long & short extensions and 8/10mm sockets. The condition of the valve convinced me that manual cleaning (half an hour with a couple of litres of paraffin, some non-metallic scourers and a pound store washing up brush) was the only way to go. There is no solvent I know (certainly none that I'm prepared to unleash indiscriminately) which could have shifted the gunge and tar. Even if it did I cannot conceive of it passing harmlessly through the engine, turbo, cat and exhaust. The opening to the inlet manifold was also similarly treated. Total time two hours. Would have been less if I'd remembered to refit the bl@@dy EGR inlet gasket. In fact the job was so easy (plenty of PVC gloves needed though) that I decided against tinkering with the EGR system. I'll just repeat the process as and when necessary. Can't be bothered with engine management warnings and the like.
    I may consider using a spray to maintain the condition of the valve but I doubt it. They may have their place but I really would not feel comfortable relying on something which just moves the muck further along the system.
    Incidentally the cleanup completely cured my rough idle. Improved bottom end torque and made the driving experience much more pleasurable. No more Hail Marys prior to entering a busy roundabout with a full load.

    He removed the EGR to demonstrate the effectiveness of this product (if you can remove it then obviously soak it and scrub it clean). My EGR is a big job to get to it, some are very easily accessible. I used this method and cleared EGR fault. Cost me £20 and worked. Fixed for ever? No, but might see me through until I scrap my van. If you’re driving a motor with a lot of life left, do it properly, this will buy you a bit of time before it clogs up again, that’s it.

Same technique as in the video shown, warm the engine then squirt oven cleaner at a rate of a second a squirt until spray can is empty. Turn off engine for an hour to let oven cleaner do it's job. Turn engine on until to operating temperature, squirt water in slowly about 500mL was enough for my car.
      The water mist works as water get in there it will generate steam and the steam action clean out the carbon build up.

    Could have just brushed that off and saved yourself money and time.
    Also, I'd not recommend this sort of solution as you're artificial increasing the pressures within the engine (revs increasing without acceleration) . I suspect this would have done more damage than good.
    But hey its a French car it's always going to be crap 😁

    Certified 44 yrs here. No engine (as far as a passenger vehicle) should ever be reved past 1800 rpm. Even the 2500 rpm used for state inspections is too high. I would spend 100 dollars on parts for my vehicles before I would rev them that high. The german concept of engineering is to use gearing to make even a 4cyl engine never run at highway speed above 1500 rpm. Here in the US this concept was used from the late 60s through the 70s on American full sized vehicles and overdrive was used in the 80s because the engineering concept is to never go above 1500 rpm. The common motorist is not a race car driver

    • @lolhehe420
      @lolhehe420 9 років тому +2

      Earl Guyton Then why do car manufacturers make production engines with redlines as high as 7k-8k RPMS? And then you have sport bike engines that do 2x that.

    • @rmblwgn
      @rmblwgn 9 років тому +2

      Earl Guyton what in the hell are you talking about even automatic transmissions shift after 1800rpm. what are you going to do mod your ECU so that your transmission doesn't ever go past 1800 rpm? That makes no sense at all. It would be terribly boring to drive if everybody shifted so quickly and there would be almost no useable power unless you had a high torque motor which most dont. It would take forever to get up to speed. I have no idea why you would say this. Do you seriously shift before 2000 rpm every single time?

    • @danharrison5195
      @danharrison5195 9 років тому

      Earl Guyton So why does the turbo on my diesel not even kick in until around 1800RPM, you're talking out of your ass. It's not economical to be persistantly driving high up the rev range, but there is no issues driving at 2-3k rpm regularly.
      Redlining might fuck your engine up after a while but theres no damage caused by revving to 7k before changing up

    • @detmer87
      @detmer87 9 років тому

      +Earl Guyton On a healthy and properly maintained modern engine high reving of a warm engine won't cause any wear. Most wear in engines are from cold miles, cold oil lubricates much, much worse. So drive gently until the engine is warm.
      I have seen a lot of Ferrari's on the dyno (old (cheaper) Ferrari's that get prepared to become a enthousiast track car) and the best ones are the ones that always were driven fast...

    • @jmmluis
      @jmmluis 9 років тому +1

      Stop talking BS. Running engines that low in the rev range is a great way of building up carbon and have your trim come apart due to engine vibration. there is no way you can drive at highway speeds in that range. most diesels have their optimum operating point between 2.5 and 3k rpm

    Ok, I'm starting to believe that this engine had 'plenty' of other issues, besides just a clogged EGR valve. Did anyone else notice the fresh oil leaks all over the top side of this engine? Using this product on an engine in this condition, is about as useful as spraying fly spray on a pile of fresh cow shit.

    Why didn't you just clean the EGR valve by hand, if it is so easy to remove?
    On my Volvo V50, the EGR was much more difficult to remove, but i'm glad I did. I got almost 0.75kg of carbon deposits out of it, and now, I just use fuel additives every other tank full to keep it clean.

  • @michaelbeary
    @michaelbeary 8 років тому

    would that get into the EGR ports as well? I don't understand how this would get to the EGR valve.. I thought the intake just goes into the fuel mixture directly before its burned, and the exaust gas enters this system through an entirely separate system.

    Well I'd like to see anyone try this on a modern diesel engine.
    Bloody thing will rev its nuts off putting a cleaner in the intake when its running.
    Putting a squirt of brake cleaner to start anything is scary enough.
    Well if it works for people.
    But does it clean the EGR cooler and DPF and catalytic converter and exhaust system as well at the same time.
    Because if it doesn't no point on just doing 1 thing.
    And all the shit you clean off ends up in the exhaust system anyway so i cant see the point of it myself.

    Well, it kinda work, if you can access the EGR valve for removal, then better remove it and clean it or simply replace it.
    On some cars the access to the EGR valve is quite complicate, so i can see myself using it.
