Always come back to listen to The Waterboys. I just wish I was old enough to appreciate them back in the 80's. That's what I love about them tho, their sound is like no others and every song sung is a timeless masterpiece
+Robert Edward: I AM old enough to have followed them in the '80s, but only discovered them very recently, while binging on the CBC series "Republic of Doyle." "Fisherman's Blues" was played over an ending scene in Season 2, and I immediately looked up The Waterboys -- and proceeded to buy a bunch of music! Better late than never, for this 70 year-old!
Me also ( for this mid fifties but young at heart girl ) I always loved The whole of the moon but had never heard anything else until a few months ago and now i am besotted : )) And they are just as good now than they ever were ( if not better )
"Besotted" is an excellent word, Sue -- that's how I feel. Honestly, I don't know how I missed The Waterboys and Mike in the mid-80s, except I was teaching way out on the Navajo reservation, and none of the available radio stations were playing them, and cable TV didn't exist out there back then. Plus, my teenaged son and his buddies were head-bangers. Now that he's heard The Waterboys, he's begun listening to them at work (senior engineer for Microsoft), on Groove.
Wow, sounds like you have led a very interesting life ( While I have just been drifting through mine ) And you must be very proud of your son : ) Just after i discovered how good the Waterboys were i found out they had played here in New Zealand just a couple of months before ( A case of very bad timing for me ) Go figure! But another favourite band whom I didnt fully appreciate enough in the day was The Cure and they are playing in Auckland next week , so I will definitely be catching that concert . . .: )
I have, indeed, had an interesting life -- no money to show for it, but many memories, and I raised a great kid (who just turned 46!). I keep finding more of Mike's music to love. I think "Bring It All In" is just fantastic. I'm a church musician (moderately good pianist), and am always looking for spiritual songs that are not specifically religious. I'm crazy for the Yeats album -- maybe because I have my BA in English Lit, but more because of The Waterboys.
One of the best versions around. Check the Sundays version and Old and In the Way's version for interesting styles of the same song., Would have loved to hear their unique style of fiddle added. here
been listening to th Waterboys for years but somehow missed this = thank you, great sound.. this song has had many remakes, even Melanie, & i love them all but this one's really got the song, top of the crowd = aloha !~
They do a nice remake of the Rolling Stones classic but nobody beats the Stones original . Mike Scott has a nice pair of soup coolers like Mick Jagger ! mmmm love it ! x
Lucky me ... I became a Waterboyed disciple with their first vinyl... and the continued appreciation of Mike Scott and the boys has forever implanted their BIG MUSIC sound Deep into whatever grey matter brain cells still flickering a declining shed of light !!
I didn't get to their 1st release for quite a while... it was only a mini LP in Canada. Got Pagan Place and loved it, but when I heard "This Is The Sea" I couldn't believe how brilliant it was musically and lyrically. When I got back to the first LP and heard A Girl Called Johnny I was floored, or course.
++The world is a little smaller. God DAMN shame Nothing this good will last forever. Lock onto it now friends. don't let this slip away. Do your heart some good. Tell all your friends.
not my fave - even though o love the band. May fave covers of this song (and there are SO many) are THE SUNDAYS and JEWEL (very diff arrangements). The best cover the Waterboys do are PURPLE RAIN and GIRL Of The NORTH COUNTRY (Dylan)
One of the most beautiful songs (which reveals to be one of the saddest songs by the end) ever written.
Bravo.
Just a song on a Sunday night, Stellar!!!
Beautiful song !❤
When a work assignment in london my 1st cassette for just bought car touring England. Now STILL so,so good!
pure emotional beauty, this song suits Mike's voice so well

Love his voice ❤️❤️❤️
The wonderful thing about music, is , you can chop and change. However, The Waterboys will live with me forever.
What a fantastic version of this song!
Mike Scott is a national treasure!
Can’t listen to much modern music theses days. Bring back stuff like this different level

Susan Boyle had a hit with this of course. Nice voice. But this Waterboys version is just in a different Universe!! Thanks for it!

Nailed boys
I like this better than the Stones original. Who'd have thought?
You have good taste Gail
Well, I am besotted by Mike and The Waterboys, who I just "discovered" in May!
My wife and i saw them in birmingham november last they were fantastic
I am officially jealous!
Lucky you! l wish I had only just dis-covered them again..
Better version then the stones
Forget the stones!
🤙❤🤘
What about the flying burito brothers?
U2 who's gonna ride those Wild Horses would have been a better cover especially as Mike loves Ireland
Mike loves Rolling Stones much more than U2 I think
This is excellent, but I still like Gram Parsons version better.
Sorry, Mick and the rest of the Stones, but this music must have been made for Mike and The Waterboys...
not my fave - even though o love the band. May fave covers of this song (and there are SO many) are THE SUNDAYS and JEWEL (very diff arrangements).

not that voice in this../ this is not the whole of the moon!
:D
Mazzy Star is better better by far.
