When all the "beatable" WRs get broken, the-elite should make a compilation of all the current WRs (using the run that untied the record) back to back in one video. Would be cool, maybe with a clean version and a version with commentary from each runner when available.
yes, that would be so awesome! and for all the segments where the runner wasnt able to provide commentary, someone like carl or goose should just fill in :)
I disagree with goose and some community members who believe a run is unbeatable. Just about every single WR that was deemed to be unbeatable was in fact, defeated and broken. I believe with enough skill and dedication to this game, there will always be a way to go faster. The hardware is the only limitation. But see, grenading the two guards in the shack is something that literally no one thought mattered. However it was the key to success, so I believe with enough studying each level can and will continue to become faster and faster even if it takes multiple years.
@@mattsherwood eventually all possible time-gains have been used and there will be physically no possibility to gain another full second....... ofcourse right now, i think most levels can be beaten still, but most of the short levels are now getting VERY close to being maxed, it would be different if they timed using thousands of a second like in many other games, but here it has to be a FULL second time save.... especially the shorter levels just dont have much more options, but yeah, like i said, at this time , most levels can still be beaten, mind you, not all!
just imagine in the actual movie goldenye if Pierce Brosnan actually started tossing grenades up in the air to land behind for boost whilst running towards the plane :D :D
The first time I watched the 21 I was expecting it to be more eventful. But the second time it really is a squeaky clean run. Just because it is a short run shouldn't discount the precision put into it.
Still find it crazy that killing 2 guards save 0.15 secs. Also improving the chances of finishing the stage shouldn't be overlooked. Wonder if this'll cause more thinking into other stages where knocking out a few guards could make all the difference. Thanks Goose for the vid and massive congratulations to Berg for this truly remarkable speedrun.
The game needs to process fewer things, you get a smoother gameplay, lose less inputs to frame lag, therefore you get places faster. This is also the reason why the run looking to the ground goes super fast with half the boosts.
Goose you're the man. I've been captivated by your speed lore series since the beginning. I hope 2020 is the year your channel gets the views it deserve.
Man, that's a hero story if I've ever heard one. Someone can go from being ranked lower than the top 10 and end up being a world record holder, beating almost 150 other players!
Excellent storytelling. It’s like a good Netflix documentary. Thanks for uploading-I wouldn’t have known otherwise since I don’t check the site anymore.
it will never go to 20 though. This has to be one of the unbeatables now. I wonder how long it will take people to tie it? Im sure this inspired many to start trying this map again. Good Job Berg. :D
Everytime i attempted this i thought you were supposed to throw a grenade in the hut anyways lol sadly nade juggling is far beyond my 24 sec personal bests for this stage
High Commander Squealer Wouter Jansen was the first goldeneye speedrunner to optimise his runs to a very high standard, over 20 years ago. He set the bar and laid the groundwork for everyone who came after him. I highly recommend checking out some speedlore episodes to hear about this in detail from the goose himself!
@chubbyurma Yeah, most of the toxic "THIS IS MY TITLE AND I DESERVE IT AND NOBODY ELSE CAN HAVE IT EVER!" people usually seem to overlap heavily with the same people who resort to splicing and other cheating methods to keep their name at the top. Given how active the Goldeneye community is and all of the improvements to their proof-checking over the years I'd be surprised if any of those assholes could survive there for any real period of time, so it's probably as healthy as they come in terms of attitude.
Will always be amazed at how you can make something considered 'boring' by a large portion of people really interesting. I dont care at all about 007 speedrunning but I still watch every minute of these, rwhitegoose is an amazing storyteller
I find it amusing that the ultimate end-all be-all for james bond's most impressive feats in 007 goldeneye involves explosively propelling himself down a runway using grenades xD
That Jansen remark legitimately brought a tear to my eye. I played Goldeneye since 98. First game I tried speedruning and I started because I saw his videos in The Elite. I eventually (don’t even ask me when) tied his 00 agent Egyptian record (although never submitted anywhere because I didn’t record my gameplay). He is the only speedrunner I know by name from the top of my head. This is truly the end of a legacy.
I had one, man the graphics were atrocious. 240p in 3D just doesn't do the N64 justice. 2D (SNES/NES) do much better over digital 1080p upscale feed. I don't remember the ball in Mario Golf being a square pixel, argh!
I can understand why they don't like ghosting, but that puts the speed-runners who don't have the greatest recording technology at a major disadvantage.
I was completely shocked about the run. It just looked so clean and didn’t even notice the ghosting. Huge congrats to Eric on the record, and another amazing video by goose
For some reason Goose, I always put away my laundry while watching your videos. That's been the routine for the past year and I just barely realized I was doing it.
Been nailing these videos back to back now for months, really reignited my love for goldeneye. Also you sound just like Seth Rogen which is amazing. Thanks for all the videos!!!
the controversy of the quality sounds like people just wanted a reason to bitch and invalidate something. watching it twice in the video before that was brought up i didnt notice it, and it seemed perfectly fine. being that picky about something is ridiculous, especially when the spirit of the rule about quality is more about stopping people from handcamming a crt.
I noticed the guards dying and immediately thought about the lag issue...happy I got it right! Goldeneye speedrunning is amazing both in terms of entertainment and complexity
@@Zadamanim i know but that's a record tie not a record, those are not the same to me, the one who did it first is at the top of the goldeneye ranking for that course, and displayed as the record setter on the list of the oldest wr's.

Cool vid. The cricket soundtrack between segments sounds Exactly like the one in the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime haha. I’d almost be willing to bet on it just cuz it actually is pretty distinct.
The 21 may not have looked impressive, but something impressive about it is how all the boosts were right in the direction towards the plane, so maximizing the .3 second per every boost, which is pure skill. Goose even said how hard it is not to get boosted slightly the wrong direction thus losing the full potential of the boost, and it looks really clean because of this
I've seen a videos talk about runway. And in Karl's video he said those guards could blow your plane up. I'm surprised that between the rarity of a guard boost on agent, the small lag benefit, and people's nature to be spiteful, that hadn't come up yet.
I remember asking why Karl didn't have Runway on his 'probably will never be beaten' Goldeneye list.
He said "because it's beatable"
What an absolute legend
Is there a pastebin of that? I'd be curious to see his thoughts.
@@michaelb1082 I'm sure Karl will make a video about this too. Just give him a day or two.
It's almost a shame he wasn't the one to beat it because then he would be known as the one to break the top 5 longest standing records in goldeneye.
KJ is God tier with GE/PD. It's badass knowing he said that bc it just increases his absolute legend status.

A speed runner is a certain type of person dedicated to perfection. Obviously it transfers to their video making
Killing = too negative
Passing away = CEEMI approved
sillypenta could he say “eliminating” the two guards? That at least doesn’t sound quite as funny
