No. I won't be excited about a cargo net or a water sprouting feature. I prefer the swing. Swing gives you the sensation of weightlessness. You just sit and swing. You don't even need to run around to have fun.
I live in Tampines and there is a new playground recently opened… featuring all swings (I think easily 10 of them, though I didn’t count) and I think 3 trampolines.
Reminiscing, behind old airport road, there was a super tall metal slide. It’s was scary for some kids, but it’s like Universal Park in the 90s. Still miss the fun old times. Too bad, now when kids are injured, whatever the reason, the town council gets calls and e-mails of complaints. Last time our parents would say, we need to be careful ourselves or very good, you deserve it. We use to climb wild guava trees and rambutan trees to eat the fruits, pull tapioca plants to get the tuber. Catch mollies, rainbow fishes in small streams in Bedok camp /Kew Drive area in the 70s n 80s. So much fun.
Yep, me and my cousins used to climb these skinny trees to get the pretty magenta flowers on it and i remember being so dissapointed because i stood on the highest most stable branch possible but my arms were to short to reach them
When we have people suing our government because of drain covers, you can expect to have policies to pre-empt similar situations. When it comes to children, it's safety before fun.
Agree, but some people would just hog it for many hours. Seen many selfish people. They just won’t budge even upon many requests. Maybe some timing device is required.
@@beautifuldurian people can be annoying and selfish. And I agree. But like, once the timer ends, then what? The swing automatically throws the child onto the ground? 🤣
I’m sure everyone who used a swing fell of it or had something happen But then got back on it. Then let their imagination run riot. The swing became a starship or a car or just height. The imagination should be allowed to bloom. Sometimes simplicity is better as an open book. Look at toys. How many children play more with the box than the toy inside. Makes you think about the modern world.
I remember i found a gift box and ended up using it as a house/shop/everything for my legos, even cut some tape and stick it on the outside to look like it
The only concern is the EPDM rubber smelling nasty in the afternoons. I wonder if those emit toxic gases when our weather gets really hot? Hope the government can think about that.
We've played in those playgrounds in our childhood. Remember we used to scale those scary heights and tried to jump from one height to another. And there was actual sand in the playgrounds. So what does that tell you about the kids of today and yesteryears? Ponder on it. We didn't have mobile phones or the Internet or social media like today. True, times and generations will change. But even we're regarded as old among the young ones I'm glad that I had gone through those childhood phases in my life. But albeit, whether there are swings or not, accidents will bound to happen one way or another no matter how careful we are. And true, regulations are good but still the conditions of human minds will always go beyond the controlled zone. That's what makes us human.
We have a play ground where I live and I use to play on it the firer man pole looks dangerous if you don’t put your feet around it properly so it’s a good thing they removed it to replace with one swing and slide to be less dangerous.
I have seen Swing set in some places around Singapore, I still go on them when i see one but Nowadays I see more for small kids to play with them. not like for all ages like the old ones. so Its still hard to find a a fun swing that can be use for all ages. although I like the trampolines that been added to the newer playground, fun to get on one.
Im from the states and when i was younger we used to throw the swings over like 2 or 3 times so its higher from the ground and so we can jump higher whenever we wanted to jump off a swing 😂😂. We used to even sit on the swing and twist the swings so we could spin around
Buying a HDB flat may arguably, in a sense, become even less affordable, for some Singaporeans, with the lower loan that they may be able to borrow, due to the new 3% for the purpose of determining the sum that one can borrow, as well as the lower 80% LTV limit. For example, a 4-room HDB flat costing $605,000 in future BTO launches such as Ang Mo Kio BTO Aug 2022, may require a minimum owner(s)’ income of $7,650 ($484,000 for 25 years 3% loan repayment = $2,295 ÷ 30% MSR = $7,650), as well as a minimum down-payment of $121,000. Given that the target market for BTO flats are young couples who have just gotten married to form a family cluster, how many of these couples would be earning more than $7,650, and also have $121,000 for the down-payment?
Even then, most of the BTO launches are heavily subscribed. Generational wealth transfer may be playing a role here with the elevated prices. Realistically, most young working adults would be hard pressed to afford the current HDB prices without some financial help, except for the smaller flats in less popular areas.
then maybe don't buy mature estate such as AMK, and also 3-room flats are a viable option for younger couples also. But sure, I do agree the housing prices are really getting out of hand. Then again, supply and demand :(
I think there has to be a balance between fun and safety. My suggestion is that we can build 2 kind of playgrounds. Type S playgrounds are maybe 80% safe and 20% not fun. Type F playgrounds are 80% fun and 20% dangerous. Let the children decide where they want to play!
I played the concrete playground before and the design is acutually weird it used to have a swing on the brige of the playground but pls leave that alone because that swing is broken no more swing they removed them
While safety is important isn't it normal to get some minor injuries when playing? I think having more options in playgrounds can increase children's interest in playing and help them exercise more instead of using phones. Imagine growing up without playing with swings.
Very weird thing, but my friend has marked most of the swings in the West to North, I do not know how, he just travels around until he's find a swing. Mans has homework but doesn't do but instead goes and finds swings
because of selfish reason and decision of some small group of people. and a town run by bo chap people, no hope. nowadays swings are only exclusive and found in parks near private estates
I feel like playground are becoming less and less common, gettin replaced with condo buildings, always them damn condo building, and not even affordable ones, they keep killing local business and playgrounds
There are swings everywhere in Taiwan and no one cares about regulations 😂 So cool to know how much effort Singapore government has put into providing children a safer playground Have you ever jumped out of swing and flied in the middle of air and tried to stand still afterwards?
Sad......silly reason....not just swing but round-abouts, sands, grass, children need this to fine tune their sensory n vestibular senses.... We took easy way out...u realize our playgrounds are always near roads?..
How the heck is HDB affordable when you include the land costs The definition of DSR is all costs related to housing, such as mortgage, maintenance, property taxes, insurance, utilities, etc, and not just the mortgage repayments, as a percentage of net income and not gross income. Also, the use of “averages” is meaningless for the lower-income. Moreover, the very concept of average affordability is flawed because those who cannot afford to buy or cannot afford to continue to pay, will not be included in the “average affordability” statistics. Has the very high utilisation of CPF for housing contributed to Singapore’s very poor scores in the Global Pension Index 2010 - country with the lowest score for ‘minimum retirement income as a percentage of average income’ and ‘net replacement rate’?
