Robot operators need to know the importance of batteries and robot backups to the robot system, and how these items can keep you from losing your robot mastering.
Doing a robot backup takes about 5 minutes and a regular USB flash drive. The video below explains exactly how to perform a robot backup. Backups should be done anytime changes are made to the robot, because it is not just the mastering values that are saved. The steps in the video go through how to create a directory on the flash drive to save the backup.
May want to format the usb first. 4gig and above use fat 32 formatting. May also want to make that an image backup so you save your SRAM/FROM both. SRAM contains your teach pendant programs you may not want to lose.

do you know how to backup variable files only?
Can you use this same approach to download fault logs? Also is there a way to change the number of fault logs to be greater than 100?
If you get an all of the above backup, there will be a file that has the error (Fault) history. This file is ERRALL.LS If you open it with a text editor (We prefer using Notepad ++) the fault log will show up similar to the view on the teach pendant.
I don’t believe there is a way to change the max number of faults.

Why not use the keyboard?
There is the option to use an onscreen keyboard for naming. It all depends on who is doing the backup and how familiar they are with a teach pendant. For some, it takes longer to pull up the keyboard and use that than to just type the letters using the keys. So, you definitely could use the keyboard.
Motion Controls Robotics Inc it’s just two more presses of the down arrow and then F5. No chance it takes longer to use the keyboard unless whatever you’re writing is only a couple letters long.
