Hey Garrett, this is like you, but from the future talking aight...
3 weeks ago, I saw myself on a video I filmed, playing with my baby daughter on the sofa in the living room, and I'm like, wow I've never been this chubby.
The very next day, I decided i'd count every single calories that goes in, it was too time consuming so I only did it that day. But that gave me such a huge insight on calories, anyway... Today I weighted myself and I'm down 10lbs from 3 weeks ago. I'm doing approx 500 calories deficit too, and oh boy have I walked. Averaged 7.5k steps a day.
This is just me telling you to stick to the plan, and be proud of it ! You got this

Life catches up with us all dude, but if I can offer 1 bit of advice - try not to be too hard on yourself for feeling the way you feel. The other thing to remember is since 2020 the whole world has gone through a global pandemic and we all had to change the way we lived. That has impacts on your mental health which can impact your physical health. You should be proud of that fact that you're being proactive and looking to get 'slimmer' because that's what YOU want to do, and not because of social peer pressure.
Anyway, loving the content dude. Been a big fan of yours for years now, so sending love and best wishes on your new journey ❤

I really appreciate you making this video Garrett. I've gone through the same thing the past couple of years struggling with my body image. I grew up similarly, super healthy upbringing, got into vaping and eating crappier, being active less, and it's hard to be unhappy with your body. I hope things work out, I'm using this as motivation for sure. Keep grinding

Vodka has calories just generally the least. Basically all non mixed stuff has the same. I used to have a bottle a day with like a 500 calories sandwich on the side. That's still like 2800 calories a day though. I was in my early 20s though so that was around maintenance. Glad that chapter is done haha

I quit vaping myself last January after having a nicotine addiction for 9 years. It’s definitely one of the hardest addictions to quit. It does ruin a lot of ties I had with friends and almost all relationships I had in that span were affected by my addiction which caused them to fail. But I’m glad you kicked it because I know where you are coming from Garrett! I definitely get cravings to smoke from time to time but I begin to think of all that progress that I’ve made and I just fight the urge and distract myself with something else.

Moving is tough. Some people say it is more tough than losing a significant other... in other words it's stressful and easy to gain weight. Don't get too upset about the weight gain but just get after it and do your thing and you'll lose the weight for sure. I moved last year and finally am shaking off the weight in a similar fashion. You'll get it. Stick with it bro! 💪

I can relate big time! I stopped skating my junior year of high school and blew up to 200 pounds too. Skating burned a lot more calories than I thought and I used to eat whatever and however much I wanted. Retrospectively, it kind of made sense because I used to spend hours at the skatepark as a kid. I started dieting and working out like insane to try to get back to that lower weight. I got back into skating but even now with my work/school schedule I really need to make sure I track how many calories I eat. I’ve been tracking my diet and weight every day for the past 5 years now but it’s worth it. Honestly seems like the only way I could keep that 50 pounds off 😅

over the past few years ive gone up in weight myself (im at 218lbs) working my way down to a nice 190 and possibly 175-180 is the goal! was on a plateau for a lil while and i figured out it was becuz i was mostly just sitting around most days not really being active other than lifting weights at the gym 3 times a week and it just goes to show, you can do everything else correct, deficit, eating healthier and still not really progress in the best way. so me starting to skate again has help me go past that plateau which i am incredibly happy about! ordered a new 8.5 birch santa cruz board with some krux 8.5s and SF F4 Classics 52mm. cant wait to skate all summer and relearn stuff from 15 years ago

Fast forward, I’m 40 lbs heavier at 180, with not working out. Personally, I cut out alcohol and started working out again. Have cut down 10 lbs so far. Hoping to get down to at least 150 this year.

I am 47. At the start of the year i stopped drinking anything exept black coffee, hot tea, or water (and one great beer every two weeks) i dropped 20 pounds in January. Apparently i was doing an extra 2K calories worth of workouts each day and was just maintaining a 210 lifestyle. I felt fine. I didn't plan to lose weight, the idea was to stop spending money on drinks all the time. Now 185. Lightest i have been since 2004. I have saved over $3000 from not buying drinks energy drinks, sodas, Gatorade and mindless snacks when i stop in to buy a beverage.

I was working for half a year at a local place because I couldn’t change my Major (in uni) in time and when I started working there I was exactly 79-80 kg’s. When I left that place (in February this year) I was around 86-87!!! I could barely skate when I was working because I had to do triplw shifts so yeah it was rough. When I could finally stand on my board again I could barely land anything let alone push a line for more than a minute because I got so winded so fast.
Long story short: I finally took my time eating healthier, working out every morning when my body feels it and man I went from 86 to 81,5 since February. Not to mention skating feels soooo much better , actually better than before.

  • @stonedan0

Getting older and being less active contributed marginally. Quitting nicotine and eating junk food were the largest factors. Now that you're getting older you can't eat b******* like that. Even if you don't put on weight it'll catch up to you in other ways. If you want to be in shape use the fat that you're putting on from quitting nicotine to build muscle which will in turn burn more fat and increase your metabolism again. You don't have to get jacked. When I started working out again I noticed an improvement in my skating and that's what motivated me to stay in the gym and get fit.

Nicotine is pretty crazy in terms of keeping weight off, it reduces food cravings and increases metabolism by 10-15% depending on the person. So you used to be able to eat 10-15% more food and you'd naturally want to eat less. I do nicotine pouches for that very reason, never smoked or vaped my entire life but I watched a Huberman podcast where he broke down nicotine in depth and it's really debatable whether or not it's bad for you given the benefits, but it's definitely addictive and keeps people smoking cigarettes which is awful. I would never smoke, but pouches work great for me and I feel great at a lower weight. If you feel better off nicotine though then just take some Lizzo and keep the weight off that way. lol

I know your feels; I grew up as that skinny boi who could eat anything, and then (at about your age, I'm 39 now) I started to pack on unhealthy weight. Long story short, over a decade, I hit the official mark of obesity. About 5 years ago, I made the changes I needed to, and now I'm right back to my natural lanky form hahaha! But yeah, I've literally been to obesity and back. For so many years, I absolutely hated seeing myself in a mirror. I don't have a point, other than when it comes to body image issues, I totally understand. But I also understand that we ALL have the power to change it, no BS!

Age definitely has a lot to do with it. No matter how active you are once you reach late twenties or so you need to actually give some effort to not gain weight.

Haven’t finished the video (in case you say this) but you could buy a scale to measure the things you eat and track your calories with some app like ‘lose it’ or ‘my fitness pal’ along with your exercises so you can be sure that you’re on a calorie deficit
That helped me tho, hope that helps man

Your age is probably the main reason for the weight gain. 27 is when my metabolism slowed down. Running is bad for muscle retention during a cut. I’d just go for 2 mile walks, 7,000-10,000 steps a day is sufficient. Id recommend getting an Apple Watch to monitor your activity. You skate enough that honestly just lowering your caloric intake would be sufficient imo.

I was a smoker for 15 years, then switched to vaping then quit that a year ago. If you use vaping properly to quit smoking it works well.

Get yourself a Ninja Creami and some chocolate protein powder. That'll help with the evening treat cravings.
