    I think it is wonderful how you are teaching your children. I don’t understand why people think they have to stick their nose in your business. I admire you and all you are going through and yet you take such good care of your kids be at the hospital and not getting any rest. As a former teacher I applaud you. Kids need to learn hands on also. Cooking,cleaning,making DIY things. They need to be thought life lessons. Praying for you all.

    i love the way you teach and show your kids this beautiful earth God created and so hands on. ❤❤I remember having a learning disability and not getting the help i needed in school to succeed. I masked and was so talkative because I was smart they saw it as a know it all and I got bullied. I noticed my 3 yr old w special needs was masking in school only happy to have friends. But since taking her out of school and homeschooling on weekends and daycares on weekdays she now is more social and can be herself, she’s doing 1st grade work at 3. And she now has a deep love for games. Our library had a fishing word game she loved and a snap spelling game. Homeschooling/ unschooling is really what you make it. You are always learning everyday 😊

    Mumma bear congratulations on the way you are teaching your children. I worked in education at a private religious school for 27 years and saw first hand the many flaws in the way children are educated, their anxiety if they can’t keep up and bullying, if I had my time again my four children would have been homeschooled. Do any of your older children have jobs outside of the home. Bless you ❤❤❤❤❤

    i worried about raising my children because my Mom had mental problems. I did a Montessori teaching course along with 3 boys under 4. Although it doesn't encourage reading at an early age somehow mine just learned how to do it from having stories read to them. They are all very musical playing many instruments while I was never interested in music - one an opera singer! An eye test showed that one child was dyslexic (now a professor) and a familial problem which has carried on through the generations but regarded as a gift that makes them think in a different way. I would have liked to home school until teenage years but feel that children have to cope with people and when things go wrong!

      I'm wondering that as was well. Do the kids learn to write and math? Or they don't have to if they don't want to? Are they able to get their GED when they turn 18? Are they encouraged to go to college? I think you had mentioned previously that in Main if you're homeschooled you can't attend college? Now,to be successful and be able to support yourself and family you need that education, in my opinion. Do the kids have their own friends to spend time with? It's so important for social skills.

    • @uffda
      @uffda 6 днів тому

      Many home school children go on to college and do very well.
      However, college is overrated.
      Many children are pushed into college when they would be more adept to a trade skill.
      Back in the day many skills were learned on the job working with a professional.
      I went to college to be a teacher, but my best teaching skills were learned by classroom teaching and experience, not in the classroom where time was taken up with bulletin boards and the development of children at a specific age…
      I would say the best skills to learn are writing and practical finances.
      A great study guide for college prep is ACT or SAT for Dummies.
      Latin gives the basis for vocabulary.
      Math and Science basics are good but how many use advanced of either.
      I learned most of my history by doing what Momma Bear does - by visiting historical sites - and most of it as an adult military spouse traveling.
      In school history was boring to me with dates and places. It didn’t come alive until I could see it in person.
      I took a class called Rudiments of America’s Christian History which was basically quotes from the early founders.
      It set the basis for my understanding of the foundation of our country.
      My public high school was brain washing me about humanism - things like situation ethics and atheism in every class - literature - government - history - and social studies.
      I had no grammar.
      Ironically I had great Christian Science teachers. My biology teacher told the class he had to teach what the book says but he believes differently.
      By the way, sentence diagramming is a great thing to learn.

      @@suzanneclark8579that seems like it would handicap the child if your kiddo couldn’t at least choose to attend college. We have some brilliant homeschooled kids in our extended family but they actually did classes with others. The parents taught groups of different kids in subjects they knew about. We also have brilliant public schooled kids in our family who went beyond just high school to become medical professionals. So I truly believe it makes a difference in what they’re exposed to and how they’re taught. Not being able to go on to higher learning is definitely a handicap in today’s world. Even the welders and skilled trades my husband hires need certifications that require at least a ged to obtain and many times years of experience.

      I would agree there’s so much more. I don’t feel the average child needs absolutely everything depending on the type of journey that they’re on in their life. But I do think focusing on a greater spectrum of education is really important. For instance, a child who would be interested in architecture would be better off doing more geometry than say calculus just depending on what their Avenue is going to be should be like the direction that they choose to go. But being exposed to many different things, including art and music and all those things is important as well.

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  6 днів тому +1

      Good questions. Are used to use the standard homeschool curriculum. Then I realized the individual needs of each of my children might not be fitting in that standard box. General age of children learning to read and write while there’s a huge spectrum. When I read aloud to my children, they usually start to inquire about letters early two or three. Some then might want to learn to sound out specific words. They might do that a time or two or they might do it for a month. But when they want to stop or they’re not that interested anymore, I’m OK to stop as well. Between the ages of five and seven, then I will ask the child if they want to use a curriculum or how they want to learn to read. I explain the blessings of learning how to read and how that would change their life. Then they decide. I give them an opportunity each day to do those things.

    What I always found strange about Paul Revere's family is how they re-used their children's names. They had two Marys because when the first Mary died, they used the name again. They had three Johns. First John died in infancy, so they named another baby John. That John died at 3 or 4 years old, so they named another baby John until one stayed alive. Our second son was stillborn. I could not imagine naming another child his name because he is our son David. Did they not actively remember or discuss the children who passed? That just always stuck out to me about Paul Revere's family and seemed so crazy to me as a mother though it was a very different time.

    Yes, that, yep, that too and definitely that! Learning should do a couple of things - challenge the mind and grow the mind. I think learning should also be taught on more of a “skill set” based on individual children and their abilities. I graduated from high school in 1991 - I was a Sophomore in the 1988-1989 school year and can I tell you anything about Trigonometry?! Absolutely not! Even with my 19 year career in Finance and Tax returns for my clients, it was useless. Although Math and English/spelling/grammar were my top core classes, most of it was unnecessary knowledge. But, I do believe my English teacher would be proud of my punctuation. 😆 My girls (4) attended public schools because my husband and I both worked highly stressful career positions that brought along a lot of long hours. Most kids these days haven’t even seen a check register, much less know how to use and balance one. 🤦🏼‍♀️ The fact that the kids don’t have the fun elective classes that we had is sad to me. Now their electives are a foreign language and Gym/Health. Sadly most schools only teach Spanish now… we had Spanish, French and German. Not to mention we mastered the art of “Pig Latin” and could speak and understand that as well as we do English.
    Here I am writing you another essay. 😆 Have a wonderful evening! ❤️

    I am raising my grandchildren. They are in public school, but I want to homeschool them. I am in Alabama, and we are required to have a cover school. They are not happy in school. When we do homework, they show no signs of the issue the school reports to. If you were in my position, where would you start? My goal is to hit the road and give them the hands on experience you are providing. Do you have any advice for me?

    • @mommabear2many

      So I do know a couple families that are homeschooling in Alabama. I would first join homes if I were interested homeschool legal defense association that will give you like the step-by-step laws. I would also probably start joining some Facebook groups for the for your area. Just throw it out there and say I’m looking to homeschool what are my options. If you can’t find the information that you need just email me. And I’ll try to connect you with somebody.

    Just a suggestion which you may have already thought of. That show "how is made" would be a great thing for your kids to choose an episode to watch on how something they are interested in is made. I find it fascinating as an adult. I love to learn. I constantly am looking things up online and reading out finding a UA-cam video on

    How am I learning now a days - Why Google and utube university.
    I like books with drawings more so over photographs. I like to know what I am suppose to be seeing before seeing; i often see more than what I'm suppose to see or also what I'm not suppose to see. I dont mind hands on as long as I know how I'm suppose to place my hands first; and by golly if there's a short cut or more guaranteed way to do it I want to know up front not have to "discover" it.

      @mommabear2many Yep, I do best with very basic fundamentals that are true all times at first (or told this is true most times/ only in this application) and from there I'm off to the races. My mother said I always went from the first level of leaning to one multiple steps down the road skipping all the lessons inbetween (with learning gaps). As pretty much a self taught sewing, my first pocket is a good example. I had planned on tracing a jeans pocket with squared off corners and was told by some folks that an applied pocket would be too difficult as a first. So, I flipped through some books and a welted pocket with one bound edge became my first 'cause I liked the look of it and it wasn't an applied pocket.

    I love the way you are teaching your children. Every person learns a different way. I am a visual hands on learner. I can read something several times and it not stick especially things that do not really interest me, but going to the places makes everything come alive, and it becomes more interesting. Reading stuff about history was never enjoyable to me, but my dad loves history, so I have taken him to some historical places and it was so neat, and I really enjoyed learning the history.
    You are giving your children experiences that other children would be lucky to have, and you are teaching them skills to make them self sufficient. Great job mama.
    I need to add that I did a search for homeschool scholarships in Maine, and was shocked that they’re really is not any. I live in Florida and homeschool my special-needs grandson, and any child in the state of Florida can get a homeschool scholarship that is a rather large amount. It helps so much, we are able to buy the stuff for him that would otherwise be difficult to purchase. Main needs to do better, when it comes to homeschool education assistance. If the children were going to a school, the school would get money provided for each child, so why not help the parents that are homeschooling.

    It seems like you are assuming parents who put their kids into the school system abdicate all responsibility for their education. The children are also learning at home, have other interests that are encouraged, learn how to get along in the outside world. Families go places together all the time and learn about different things. My children and I are lifelong learners, unschooling is not doing your children any favours. You come off very smug and insulting to people who are not like you. Not very Christian of you.

    The way you are teaching your kids is amazing. They will have lifelong memories of this time. I think it means so much more when they get to experience these settings. They associate every learned fact with his home and the other places you have been taking them in and around Boston. I could not agree with you more about the kids wanting to learn and how fast they go through subjects. ❤

    Please don’t criticize public school education so badly. Maybe it is not for your children, but it works for so many children who receive a nurturing, caring and excellent education that prepares them for life. Fortunately we have choices for our children. You made yours and those of us that chose other alternatives are entitled to make ours. Your last couple of videos are too preaching about how you raise your children and your book lists. Prayers for Azariah and hope he continues to make progress.

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  6 днів тому +4

      I don’t really see it as critical to public school I see it as pointing out the differences. The 2 main difference I brought up in this video were education involving teaching for children to memorize things from a textbook. This can be public school or most anyhow or homeschool I know many homeschool families that teach this way. The other is lack of field trips and experiences which can also be both. I know many homeschool families that don’t go anywhere. Yes I am extremely passionate about the way I teach. I also delete many comments that are dogmatic about me sending my children to public school. So I am trying to do my best at the reasons why I educate the way I do.

      I wish I was homeschooled. I now homeschool my kids. And if you’re going to have such a hard time with watching this video because of your closed mind-maybe don’t want videos about homeschooling? No need to comment that she is criticizing. She always says- you do you and I’ll do me. ❤️

    • @charlottehyman8146
      @charlottehyman8146 3 дні тому

      I just suggested she not be critical of public school education and she really was. Talking about they only memorize and don’t have hands on experiences and don’t go on adventures, etc. I said each person should make choices for their own children and what works for each family. I did not say what she is doing is wrong, but said not to be critical of public school education. Not all families can home school and where would so many children be without public school?For those who can home school effectively it is wonderful. Let everyone live life according to what makes them happy and fulfilled. Certainly life for her is easier because people are sending her money. Prayers daily for Azariah. Hopefully he can leave the NICU and have a productive and happy life.
