Warning!!! This plant is for grownups ONLY as it is toxic. So if you have kids or pets or are inexperienced with plants, it is best not to have this plant in your home.

Here are some tips:
How to Propagate Pencil Cactus
Step 1: Cut the stem (or stems) from the parent plant in late spring to early summer.
Step 2: Let the Cut End Dry
Step 3: Plant the Dried Stem
Once the cut end has dried, the stem is ready to be planted in a new pot.
Step 4: Water it lightly,

jeese the sap is not that bad and easy to propogate - cut, let callous in newspaper and stick it in soil.

Their toxicity is highly overrated. I have had a bunch of these, I cut them all the time, get the milk all over my hands and never had a problem. I imagine it would be a problem if you're allergic to it, or if you allow your babies and pets to eat your houseplants.
