      Wow. You made my night and the rest of my year! I so appreciate you and your words!!! I’m glad you’re here and that you appreciate what I do. Means so much. Trust me, I have my days just like we all do when I don’t feel loved or pretty, but it will never be because of what others say or don’t say it’s always about what I feel about myself. And as long as we do right by ourselves and the people we love we gon be alright! I’m glad you’re here, love 💕

    i truly love this movie. the director has said it was about the fall of western civilization and he made it in a very depressed state... he later apologized for even making it. for me it's a very emotionally honest movie. it's bleak to an extreme degree but it's not cynical. i think that sets it apart from a lot of horror. it's less gross and more heartbreaking. loved the reaction though, great to see how other people take it in!

      that's personally why I love Martyrs and hate Terrifier. the latter has no compassion or respect for the victims, it revels in the blood and the depravity of the serial killer that is blatantly the main protagonist of the movie.

    It's rare that a horror film is deeply disturbing but also heartbreaking. By the end of the movie I just wanted Anna's pain to end. I wasn't interested in gore or scary scenes. I just wanted that poor girl to stop suffering. Brilliant film. All around very well made and acted but it's too vicious to truly enjoy like with a typical horror movie. Great reaction video. Subscribing for sure.

      wow... that's so not ok to show that to young kids... mind you among all the violent ultra gory movies to watch at such a young age, that one is probably the 'best' (or rather least bad), since it's a tragedy full of emotion and compassion for the victims, and not a fucked up depraved movie for sadistic psychos. but still... so, so not suitable for children.

      @@hover-goat7740 I actually went back to it a few years ago and watched it again. The second time around I was able to appreciate it a lot more and I felt like it was a very well made movie with a real point of view and a desire to say something. Ironically, it’s the high quality of the movie that makes it so upsetting. The stupid torture p0rn movies that it gets lumped in with are all garbage, so I forgot about them minutes after watching them.

      @@MelodicsWorld08 I totally related to your reaction to this movie, and there were a couple of moments when I thought you would just tap out for the sake of your mental health. I can understand anyone wanting to shut it off, and I would go even further and say that if you wanted to shut it off, it proves that you're in a healthier mental and emotional state than I was when I saw it the first time since I sat through the whole thing. The second time I watched it, which was about 10 years later, I appreciated it a lot more, and my wife watched it with me even though she hates horror movies. She actually loved it, which I did not expect and described it as a feminist movie about radical acceptance. Go figure.

    • @henazz2561
      @henazz2561 2 місяці тому

      @@CarbonnothingbutcarbonI think its funny as hell that your wife described it as feminist when one of the criticisms many people have of this film is the fixation on torturing young women specifically , which they argue comes from a place of misogyny. I haven't watched other films by the director but I've read that plots that involve torturing women is a bit of a fixation for him.🥴

    So I'm obsessed with SFX makeup. I was looking up the most realistic sfx artist's work in movies... this film came up. It's so disturbing because its not so far from reality as far as probability of being able to actually happen, but also, the anatomical correctness of the body injuries and the flaying, absolutely blew my mind. All around so fucked up and so good and so bad...
    Rip the artist who was responsible for this incredible artistry in the film. She passed away before she ever got the chance to be recognized for her amazing talent.

    I'm French and I'm overwhelmed by the fascination this movie gets in other countries. To me, it feels like it gets more love around the world than here, in its homeland. Or at least, it seems more talked about outside of France. Forereigners seem much more traumatized by it than us, who tend to see it as just another horror movie (a very interesting one, though).
    Actually, the fact that other countries talk about "French extremity" tells a lot. We don't see it that way, here.

    • @MelodicsWorld08
      @MelodicsWorld08  11 днів тому +1

      I can def understand that. I think it’s a lot to do with the censoring in our country for certain things vs other things. For me it’s extreme, not for the plot, but for the journey and what they showed. Violence like this is usually implied, and it’s always against women, though it’s not a gender thing necessarily. Truth is, I squirmed during some scenes in Hostel. This was just so well acted that when they showed the ending, the anticipation and what took place during the torture was viscerally compelling. I think overall it’s a testament to how well it was made by everyone involved. Just my personal thoughts though. Thank you for sharing 💕🙏🏼

    • @shibitoobscura3348
      @shibitoobscura3348 10 днів тому

      @@MelodicsWorld08 Yes, there's definitely cultural differences in that regard. France is a country that has by far the least censorship. Films get released uncut here, while much more cut in the US. Like, when theh release an uncut version of à horror films in the US, years after its original release, it is actually the version that was initially released here in the first place. And most horrlr films are just rated "Not recommanded for People under 12" here, even though a few extreme ones get a 16+ rating. So I know for a fact we are much more exposed to violence in movies.
      You could argue that Martyrs is also a commentary on that, among many other things.
      Out of all the French horror flicks, I'm still sad that Baby Blood is still so overlooked.

    I have mixed feelings about this movie. I think the first hour and five minutes or so, and then the last 5 minutes, are excellent. But that leaves a 25 minute chunk of the movie that is not just disgusting, but also makes the movie very boring. The sequences of Anna being beaten are horrendously executed as far as editing and pacing with how long they last.
    The movie did such a good job justifying the onscreen violence for story reasons up until that point.
    And while Anna being tortured is relevant to the story, they should have taken the less is more approach and show Anna’s appearance change as they feed and bathe her, rather than showing all that plus 15 minutes of violently beating her.
    The ending is good but it doesn’t make the 20 minutes of torture porn feel worth it imo.
