My sister did exactly as she did, got her wings in Pensacola back in the early 90's, trained in Corpus and flew the P3 which in addition to its reconnaissance features it was also equipped with anti-ship missiles.
I thought the P3 was retired some years ago & replaced by a version of the 737. I looked it up,though and the P-3 is still in use, along with the P-8 (737):

+Chad Swan That is impressive. I am going Air Force once I graduate after a semester and summer, and will hopefully pass Officer School, and apply for pilot. If things go well, I may have a pilots license before I enter the USAF. What I really would like to do is fly as an aggressor pilot, and help train new pilots for various scenarios that may happen, to keep out pilots ready for anything, or at least that much more ahead of any competition. If I were the last fighter pilot in the USAF, I would be honored, since air power in regards to fighters may one day be obsolete, with new technology emerging. And industry of contracted fighters may be the next best thing, to be used in developing nations, nations that hold great potential as business partners to the USA. It would e nice to train some of these underdeveloped nations air power, so they can defeat any threats they may have to their development, to their freedom to prosper, etc.

I admire those who choose the path and endure the challenges to become Naval Aviators, especially Marine Aviators! Back in the 70s, my goal in high school was to become a Marine Aviator and fly an F4 off of a carrier deck! My path there was to attend a university and join the Naval ROTC program. My objective was two part. Part one was my personal goal and the second was to honor my father. I wished to continue the Marine Corps tradition started by my dad who was by then a three war veteran (WWII, Korea and Vietnam). Alas, this was not to be as my vision was poor (20/200) which made me ineligible. Of course, I was pissed that my dream was dashed. But, it was what it was. I was stubborn and refused to entertain any other MOS or RATE no matter how enticing the recruiters made them sound! I figured since I couldn't be a pilot, the military life was not for me. Anyway, for those of you young men and women who choose the Naval Aviator path, I salute you and wish you all the success in attaining your objectives! Go NAVY and Semper Fi to all Marine Aviators active duty and retired..Ooh Rah!,
I served 33 years in the Navy. 8 years to O7 enlisted 25 years commission. Retired as a O-5. The hardest day of my life was when I did my last trap and shut those turbines down for the last time. It only feels like yesterday I was in flight school going through everything you just mentioned.absorbing everything taught to me. All of my Instructors were Vietnam Gulf war Era pilots so they had brass. However since I mustanged I had respect from all of my Instructors. People aske would I do it all over again absolutely.
All naval pilots for Helicopters or Planes are required to know at least the basics of Fixed Wing Aircraft. Once they know that then they can get their specialized training in whatever category of flight the Navy needs them in. Think of it as the same idea the marines have that "Whatever a marines job, every marine is a rifleman" the navy has it with their pilots.
I had a dream about being in military training, it would be nighttime and there's a fifteen meter concrete tower which you jump out from to a lake to overcome your fears, instead of simply parachuting to do that, the jumpboard method felt much more effective! Sadly i didn't get to parachute, twas what i liked about the dream, i had this dream two times but the one which just happened was a bit different, i felt like i was also roaming around the city, the feeling of these exercises were SO REAL FEELING!
I had thought that all the old propeller driven aircraft were decommissioned and marked outdated. I guess it makes sense to have a few around for training though. Congrats on the propeller driven flight lady. Being in a propeller driven aircraft is a rare pleasure that many people don't get to see these days. The P51 was a pleasure to fly but their age is long over.
My son is in the Navy and went to Pensacola for Navy Pilot School. They sent him to Vance AFB for JPATS. Many of the Navy were scorned by the Air Force and he flunked out. He is a Doctor now and treats the pilots for DNIF. He still regrets not being given the opportunity to stay at Pensacola and go through Navy pilot training vice Air Force. He said the Navy takes more time and invests more individual effort into student pilots than the Air Force. He said he would not have failed had he had Navy instructors.

Navy ROTC "NROTC" for Navy and Air Force ROTC "AFROTC" for Air Force. There is also the service academies if you have something close to a 4.0 GPA and above a 32 ACT test score. Once you are in at a service academy though you have a higher chance of getting a slot within UPT since you are competing against people at the academy and not people at every AFROTC/NROTC attachment across the country.
Go to college. You have to have at least a bachelors degree to be an officer so you can fly. Either through NROTC or OCS. Then you'll have to get a flight contract.

Not necessarily; It’s just very competitive and you really have to work hard. But If you really want it though, you can have it... Promise you that. Use the Law of Attraction. Visualize it, feel it in your heart, and work hard for it ☀️
Great video! But can someone please break down, and explain, the types of air frames (and the fleet percentage) operated by the USN? I was very surprised that she got a non-jet drop. The USN has a smaller inventory than the USAF, so wouldn’t the majority of their air frames be jets?
I am curious, when she said she got an engineering degree, what kind? I am thinking of basically the same route and I am trying to find colleges that will best fit my future hopes of becoming a pilot.
The Navy/Air Force don't look at your major when they select pilots. They are going to be based on your AFOQT and PCSM scores if Air Force or ASTB and PCSM scores if Navy. Only time major matters is for post-career and if you want to apply to TPS.

pretend you're in a room of 100 people - someone asks who wants to be a fighter pilot - you all put up your hands - after about three years - THREE of you will be fighter pilots
depends on your budget. If you can afford college straight up, definitely go OCS. Normal college is hard enough and you'll get to have a social life and be able to sleep and get good grades with ease. If you can't afford college, apply ROTC. Be ready though, it ruins college. You never sleep because you are juggling sleep and 5am PT and extra military classes and events and meetings u have to do pretty much daily. You have no social life and you'll barely pass your classes, but its paid for if you can earn a scholarship and you're ready for the military upon graduation because u've been inactive reserve in uniform for 4 years. It definitely depends on the school as all ROTC units are different, but I wouldn't wish Rotc where I went to school on my worst enemy. I slept maybe 4 hours a night if I was lucky for 4 years straight. If I had a 40 minute break, I would sleep in the library. Spent all day Saturday catching up on sleep and Sundays catching up on studying. Worth it. but hell. Hint: if you go ROTC. Do not go Engineering or any other crazy degrees unless your a God. The Navy doesn't give a fuck what your degree is in once your in the pipeline because they start from scratch. A 4.0 basket weaver will beat a 2.8 engineer any day, even though one never slept and can get a job at Nasa and the other ran a frat house for 4 years. I've seen too many people try to be a God and fall out 2... even 3 years in while the underwater basket weaving drinking majors end up pilots in the navy. Also. Get ur eyes tested and retested in highschool. Nothing worse than putting you're entire soul into something for years and then being medically dq'd
If you want to stay in the service for a career, the Academy or NROTC can be better if you get a Regular commission. But the obligation is 6 years (it was in 1971). NROTC has a Reserve commission route, too, but they only pay for 2 years of your college. You get a commission when you graduate from college. OCS doesn't pay for college. You go through after you graduate. I went NROTC Regular, but didn't decide on flying 'til I'd been at sea for 6 months. After I'd been there a year, I got orders to Flight School, right where you see the first part of this video. It was smaller then, & had other bases in the area. My T-34 experience was in the piston version, and I went to T-28 radial engine trainers after that, in Milton, FL near Pensacola.
OCS gives you a guarantee before you show up. You start OCS with a pilot slot, and you go to MEPS beforehand, though your actual flight physical is the first week at OCS where a lot of people get NPQ'd from flight (you are free to drop at this point). ROTC is a bit of a gamble. People generally get what they want, but they're usually short on submariners. Not many people get caught by the nuke draft, but some do. You can always be a SWO if you get attrited or NPQ'd or DOR from aviation. Seldom can you go SWO to pilot (though it does happen occasionally). They can make a bunch of people student pilots and NFOs and then fill in the other communities with aviation attrites and DORs.
It has been my dream my whole life I'm Albanian but I live in France now I don't speak French I basically forgot my dream it's impossible because 1 my French is bad 2 the French don't allow foreign pilots / refugees 3 the French air force is little It's so impossible do I give up? or continue my dream? If you guys are curious about what she ended up choosing. She chose the P-3 Orion. It is a plane used for maritime patrol and surveillance.

Awesome video! But hey, I have a huge question. Which would be better for becoming a pilot, NROTC or OCS?
depends on your budget. If you can afford college straight up, definitely go OCS. Normal college is hard enough and you'll get to have a social life and be able to sleep and get good grades with ease. If you can't afford college, apply ROTC. Be ready though, it ruins college. You never sleep because you are juggling sleep and 5am PT and extra military classes and events and meetings u have to do pretty much daily. You have no social life and you'll barely pass your classes, but its paid for if you can earn a scholarship and you're ready for the military upon graduation because u've been inactive reserve in uniform for 4 years. It definitely depends on the school as all ROTC units are different, but I wouldn't wish Rotc where I went to school on my worst enemy. I slept maybe 4 hours a night if I was lucky for 4 years straight. If I had a 40 minute break, I would sleep in the library. Spent all day Saturday catching up on sleep and Sundays catching up on studying. Worth it. but hell.
Hint: if you go ROTC. Do not go Engineering or any other crazy degrees unless your a God. The Navy doesn't give a fuck what your degree is in once your in the pipeline because they start from scratch. A 4.0 basket weaver will beat a 2.8 engineer any day, even though one never slept and can get a job at Nasa and the other ran a frat house for 4 years. I've seen too many people try to be a God and fall out 2... even 3 years in while the underwater basket weaving drinking majors end up pilots in the navy.
Also. Get ur eyes tested and retested in highschool. Nothing worse than putting you're entire soul into something for years and then being medically dq'd
Christian NROTC ocs is pretty hard to get selected for let alone a pilot slot and NROTC is already really selective
If you want to stay in the service for a career, the Academy or NROTC can be better if you get a Regular commission. But the obligation is 6 years (it was in 1971). NROTC has a Reserve commission route, too, but they only pay for 2 years of your college. You get a commission when you graduate from college.
OCS doesn't pay for college. You go through after you graduate.
I went NROTC Regular, but didn't decide on flying 'til I'd been at sea for 6 months. After I'd been there a year, I got orders to Flight School, right where you see the first part of this video. It was smaller then, & had other bases in the area.
My T-34 experience was in the piston version, and I went to T-28 radial engine trainers after that, in Milton, FL near Pensacola.
OCS gives you a guarantee before you show up. You start OCS with a pilot slot, and you go to MEPS beforehand, though your actual flight physical is the first week at OCS where a lot of people get NPQ'd from flight (you are free to drop at this point). ROTC is a bit of a gamble. People generally get what they want, but they're usually short on submariners. Not many people get caught by the nuke draft, but some do. You can always be a SWO if you get attrited or NPQ'd or DOR from aviation. Seldom can you go SWO to pilot (though it does happen occasionally). They can make a bunch of people student pilots and NFOs and then fill in the other communities with aviation attrites and DORs.
