Before I watch any further than the complaint I feel like I’m qualified to say the “kryptonite” to marauder and tanks is most certainly anything that exists anywhere up I’m not a genius but even 1 muta will eventually kill that army with 100% of its HP
11:40 once again, not just A moving with ravager bile micro wastes an entire army. Then the micro stops completely when the army is half dead. Sometimes people are too clever for their own good.
It's always frustrating watching zerg players be one tech ponies. The race where the constant tech/comp switch is the greatest asset for the faction, but they only build one thing. Reminds me of that zergling only replay where the guy repeatedly sends lings against blue flame hellbats for an hour.
that push at 8:30 would have been successful if he morphed two more ravagers to instantly kill the tank and kited the roaches forward to make more of them fight
yeah feel like the biggest fail there was sending the roaches to kill the workers instead of the marauders. When you go for the kill you dont let workers soak hits for the enemy army
Not even that, he just needed to stutter step his army on top of the terran army instead of letting the terran fight like 6 roaches at a time while the others are busy attacking the command center
Never in my life have I made so many roaches, in what 6-7 years of playin the game, gettin into masters 2 with mainly ling/bane it blows my mind to see someone so adamant on makin roaches, is like Kylo Ren screamin "more" but holding the roach hotkey :D this is fantastic and very interesting to see
Roach/ravager pushes, or even pure roach, can be very strong if you hit it with a timing and your opponent doesn't expect it. But when your opponent is already massing the direct counter to roaches, continuing to make them is just dumb. It would be like massing zerglings vs. blue flame hellions/hellbats or colussus. Zerg is all about adaptation; being able to instantly swap all your production based on your opponent. Unless you are stuck in gold league or below the whole "just spam one unit with macro" strategy is suicide as the other two races do it better.
@@hunteriv4869 As a diamond zerg myself, sometimes you do run into a trap where you realize you need to transition out of Roach - but the tech for your next unit isn't ready yet, so the only other unit you have unlocked is Zerglings. And if you don't have +Melee attack, and don't have enough hatcheries to spend your money on Zerglings, that's even worse. So you build Roaches and Ravagers anyway because it's all you've got, and then all the gas you are spending on Ravagers makes it even harder to get your next tech ready, and then you just bleed out. Of course, the correct response is to set up the transition in advance, because you know it's going to be needed eventually. But sometimes lower level players are just a bit too slow on that.
you know i noticed that since the Terran had so many marauders, the hydras were actually tanking more hits than the roaches. So if he just made full hydra, not only would his army do way more damage and have more range, he would be tankier too. crazy.
1:34 As someone who doesn't play starcraft, I'm guessing that since neither marauder not tank can shoot upwards, the comp does in fact have a kryptonite, and that kryptonite is any flying unit?
Your logic is good here but sadly it doesn't translate that well into the game. Zerg flyer unit 'mutalisk' have very very low dps and very fragile, and spire takes way too long to build. Muta is mostly used to harass terran's workers to force him to retreat his army and in this case he already killed most of terran's workers. In most cases muta would be a wrong call here. He only needed to make anything else than roaches or just finish the game when he had 42 of them.
@@ddenozor having at least some mutas or even going up to broods would at least force some kind of change to the composition, giving roaches a bit more of a fighting chance (or yk just build anything else but whatever)
I was feeling salty one day and asked my 3k MMR barcode Terran opponent if he was hiding his builds from Maru. He wasn't amused and proceeded to destroy me 😞 . What a game Sc2 is Haha
I also did like the trickle flanking when he could have just won the fight if he fought the army. The repeated layered concaves of units not able to get in range to attack were a little frustrating to watch.
I do remember a similar game, where I managed to push into my (Terran) opponent's natural and wipe it out with Roach/Ravager. So they were stuck on one base, and I pushed up the ramp to their main and my army died to just one tank and a few marines. In the end I died to stimmed marines, failing to transition to anything that kills bio effectively. My immediate thought was "damn, stimmed bio is cruel and looks op", but I surely could have won this if I had transitioned and macro'd better behind my push and build an army that could have beaten what my opponent threw at me in the end.
"Marauders are too efficient against Roaches!" ...Yeah. They are how Terran doesn't die to Roaches. Perhaps the Zerg player thinks that Marauders shouldn't exist so that an early-game 1/1 Roach push is a guaranteed win against anything but mass Banshee? My favorite was not morphing in enough Ravagers and not making good enough use of Bile so that the tanks just kept shelling away at the Roaches and Hydras.
The best part is that the Terran made 57 thousand Marauders and didn't even bother to research Concussive Shells. This isn't even the final form of Marauder IMBA.
that drawing is the best well done, sir :D regardless, i guess the barcode just made a fool out of him by just building the counter to what hes doing because he didnt realize that the strategy is completely useless. so he just kept going marauders because why the hell not
He didn't even have to tech up, could have just threw down 2 macro hatches and got some extra lings to flank the Terran from behind when he went in. Tank marauder trade very badly against lings. The lings with +2 armor upgrades would have been an easy win (especially because your eco makes re-max with the macro hatch effortless)
lings with +0 attack would take ages to eat marauders especially with medivacs. They would, however, probably draw a lot of fire out of hydra or even roaches which would help a lot.
The majority of lower level barcode players are people who cheese every game. They have a barcode because they are worried people will remember their name. It's a double edged sword of course because if you encounter a barcode in diamond then you basically know that there is very likely a cheese coming, whereas you probably wouldn't remember the name and strategy of some random opponent who cheesed last time you matched together.
Seems like he read the book of Starcraft2, read "More Stuff beats less Stuff" and just shut the book right then. Then complains about how his army get's hardcountered, as if there weren't any armor types.
Lower ranks feel the urge to play barcode if theyve been at the same rank for a while. With how the games been doing youll play against the same people often enough to get a feeling for how they play, sometimes. Especially if they do the same thing every time
As a ling/bane Zerg player who tried out 1/1 roach back when I started, I completely agree with Harstem, why did you pick zerg if you were going to spam an army of slow tanky ranged units while sitting on 3 bases? Hydra/Roach is actually even worse in my opinion, just play Marine/Marauder so you don't have to micro your queens as if they were Medivacs.
this is one of the rare games i think if the zerg went pure lings and absolutely nothing else comp wise , he would had won this hands down and would had been on his next match at 10 minutes.
The funny thing is that the format is built on exactly these kinds of replays getting sent. Somebody like me would just come to the realization that they do indeed just "suck" without having to ask. On the other hand, it still often results in interesting games getting sent. Just not today. Though at least we learnt that Hydras actually don't have enough range to fight properly from behind Roaches against Marauders. A pointless detail perhaps, considering that you don't want that composition anyway, but it was still interesting to see how (mostly) just A-moving against a Terran with this type of composition just doesn't work properly.
I think you should change the IODIS episodes to "Harstem flames me because I suck". Then you give each game 5 minutes. Flame them harshly to make them want to quit starcraft. Then move on to the next game. 4 games per episode They submit their own games so they are asking for it.. Most people get paid for hourly for the service you would be providing...
Roaches are common in bronze to gm videos because they require less control than ling-bane. That's why people use it until they realize how bad this composition is against terran.
As a gold-plat zerg that occasionally plays 1-1 roach: we as whole, do not claim this person.. clearly they're an off-racing troll, and we have no idea how they made it to diamond with that kind of decision making. no serious zerg player is going to keep building the same unit after seeing the opponent has built the two hard counter units for that unit. Besides, it's a terrible opener(which is all it's supposed to be) vs terran anyway, it's better to just build ling-bane.
"The terran is OP and able to come back from such a worker lead?!" Terran casually floating 3-4k resources on 100 supplies... When both players are bad, and its not a better player wins, its the worse player who loses... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There is a controversal and unpopular opinion too: population is having a retracement too. Cant really boil it down to a single reason, but a third of the population in developed countries are childfree now. You cant grow infinitely in a finite world. And yes, one reason is the lack of security for not having kids. Look, im 38... dont have kids. Unlikely I will ever get some. Both me and my partners are working, yet we cant afford to buy a home. Recently realized that an avg mortgage is for 35 years. Which bank would lend me money where statistically I should be out from the workforce for quarter of the lending period now...? :( And prices are dictated by demand. More and more people competing for the same resources. You can ask a Childfree whats the reason to be CF and you will get hundreds of different answers. Regardless what you think about it, heres the thing: GENERATIONAL SHIFTS: Does the UK need new homes, or the population just need to wait 1-2 decades and homes will be empty regardless? There are countries where this actually happening now. Even here in the UK I see villages and small towns almost deserted. Even if theres someone who inherits the property, clearly the kids wont give up their life and relocate to an isolated area where the nearest city (or even supermarket) is half hour driving... I contradict myself, but workforce is shifting. Remote workplaces, online shopping is shifting the country. You only need internet to do office work, and you only need workshop/storage unit to do your online shop. Possibly this is why the new built houses in the countryside are sold even before pipelines are digged out. For a local minimum wage worker that 300k new built home is a fortune, but for someone who lives in London and manages to get a remote work its a bargain...
Terran just know that everything in his opponent mind is 1-1 Roach. he legit build 9 tech lab to completely crush him. just one wave of muta could completely shut it down.
The real strength here is the medevacs. The marauders wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't backed up by medevacs which the zerg player didn't seem capable of doing much about. When he does get hydras, he can't seem to do a proper surround/flank so it is honestly the zerg's fault for bad micro.
I've played against this terran before. Unless there's another 3.6k diamond barcode terran who bunkers a zerg's 3rd or 4th... There really aren't that many ladder players anymore are there!

Watching this game has inspired me to play 1 - 1 roach
Hamster had me rolling on the floor within the first 3 minutes with that editing.
man building roaches loses to a unit that is designed to kill things like roaches then cries IMBA
I like playing rank roulette from the imbalance report form, but I guessed low plat this time...
Gonna play devil's advocate here and say if you just throw enough plates, the wall will eventually go down. May take a few million, but still.
I've been bingewatching this serie more than any recent Netflix series. Keep it up Harstem, you're my favorite stroopwafel!
The editing in the first two minutes is top notch lol. Good job Ham
7:21 at the main there's dancing people at a party right off the base. Never noticed that.
this is one of the rare games i think if the zerg went pure lings and absolutely nothing else comp wise , he would had won this hands down and would had been on his next match at 10 minutes.
Roach hydra is ok vs p or z, not so much vs terran
On my lunch break and an IODIS comes out, this is truly a blessed day.
that edit of unfaithful bar code player was on point, well done sir!
I dont even play SC2, never did. I come here solely for Harstem's metaphors. Please sir, never change :D
I think you should change the IODIS episodes to "Harstem flames me because I suck". Then you give each game 5 minutes. Flame them harshly to make them want to quit starcraft. Then move on to the next game. 4 games per episode
They submit their own games so they are asking for it.. Most people get paid for hourly for the service you would be providing...
The editing in your videos have been awesome! Been absolutely killing it :)
Besides, it's a terrible opener(which is all it's supposed to be) vs terran anyway, it's better to just build ling-bane.
the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
Brilliant video with some of the best editing yet - I tip my hat to you, Mr/Ms Editor!
"The terran is OP and able to come back from such a worker lead?!"
Terran casually floating 3-4k resources on 100 supplies...
When both players are bad, and its not a better player wins, its the worse player who loses... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There is a controversal and unpopular opinion too:
population is having a retracement too.
And prices are dictated by demand. More and more people competing for the same resources. You can ask a Childfree whats the reason to be CF and you will get hundreds of different answers.
Regardless what you think about it, heres the thing:
GENERATIONAL SHIFTS:
Does the UK need new homes, or the population just need to wait 1-2 decades and homes will be empty regardless?
As soon as I heard the ESPN draft pick sound effect, I had to pause the video and smash like.
2:30 this is gold, Jerry! Gold!!
just started playing, I have like 400 games and it feels like I lose these types of games often.
I’m wagering Tayter is referencing Ron White’s(comedian) story about being arrested. Worth the google.
Terran just know that everything in his opponent mind is 1-1 Roach.
he legit build 9 tech lab to completely crush him.
just one wave of muta could completely shut it down.
Plot twist: The barcode was his friend and they just wanted to be shown on the channel :D
@12:32 it said 45 SCVs we're killed but I don't think that was true?
thanks captain, this guy mentioning the avengers reminded me to go pirate guardians of the galaxy 3, apparently it's good
If you have a nail, every problem is a hammer.
The stock video editing in the beginning had me rolling
Editing getting better ever video, bravo
I no longer watch IODIS for the gameplay. I watch them for the metaphors.
The plate sfx sent me.
I missed this one when I came out, this one was hilarious, Harstem was absolutely inferno mode
i love when the captain just lets em have it, lul
As a roach/Hydra player, his mistake here was that he did not went into broodlords when he saw that much maraudeurs (plus his engages were shit)
I think barcodes on my level (diamond 3), are serial cheesers, who play same cheese all the time, so the poeple cant hard counter them.
This week on BROOOONNNNNZZZZEEEE LEAGUEEEE HEROESSSSS
EZ, Marauders and tanks can't shoot up.
Hey, Video editor, hey, can you see me? hey... Good job.
Yes. I am watching you. Always.
oh man love it attempting to demolish a fence with plates despite having an excavator (basically) lol
The number of Tech labs gave me a serious brain malfunction, 10 critical errors lit up at once.
I've played against this terran before. Unless there's another 3.6k diamond barcode terran who bunkers a zerg's 3rd or 4th... There really aren't that many ladder players anymore are there!
Very cool video capt'n, keep em coming
2:25 edit was too funny bro
excellent series. how about you and hamster swapping roles? it would be even more broken and hilarious imho
Why not go for some mutas if all you see is marauders and tanks?
I suspect his heart broke at 9:30 and didn't recover
