Murray Cod spawning Habits

- Murray cod spawn every year in the spring time. The Murray cod spawning habits are kick started by a series of deciding factors such as daylight hours, water temperatures and water flows.
Murray cod should be left alone when they are spawning in order to ensure that they spawn successfully.

Fair point Robbie, I'd imagine a lot of people wouldn't think that far out of the box to see potential damage caused long term. Great bit of information that can be applied both in your country and ours.
Thanks heaps mate. I use to fish for Murray cod in the closed season myself many years ago, thinking it was OK as long as I practiced catch and release. That was before I was educated on the importance of leaving them alone.
Excellent info Robbie. Good old wet spring around NE Vic this year!
Thanks heaps mate. It sure is very wet. It's been fantastic. I do feel for the poor farmers who have had their crops destroyed by floodwater though.
fantastic video Robbie very informative I learnt a lot out of this video thanks
Hey Garth thanks heaps for the great feedback mate.
Thanks Robbie

All those Greenies spawning! Oh yeah!

great video and very good info and ideas.
Thanks heaps mate.
Great video, very informative.
Thanks Gav.
Interesting stuff as I've never caught a freshwater cod as I live nowhere near cod waters but I'm dirty on big bass coming up stream in spring lol..atleast I know now if I'm in cod country in spring thinking I'll try a bass if the cod aren't on the chew not to as I'm those big bass lures would get smashed by cod..cheers for the insight
You're a wealth of info big fella, thank you!
Thanks heaps mate.
Awesome video, I do agree that more lakes should open in winter months and a lure ban in the rivers to be put in place. Keep up the good work.
Thanks heaps mate.
Only 50 more sleeps to go Robbie.
Bloody awesome Guzman I can't wait!
Great vid mate. I'll follow your advice from now on
Hmmm Hi mate thanks for watching. It's all about education. I use to catch cod on spring years ago but over the last 8 or 9 years as I have become more educated on the importance of leaving the cod alone my outlook has totally changed.
Thanks for the video very detailed information , my son and I loved it
Hey Ashley, Thanks heaps mate.
I try not to fish in the river at all during their breeding season. Even if u use corn for carp u have a high chance of hooking a cod. Went out today to have a carp bash and accidentally caught a nice 55cm cod, didn't even lift him out of the water just hoping he or she continued on with their business.
Hey mate that's a great attitude you have. The thing is though, that when people pay for a fishing license they should be allowed to go fishing.
I am a disability support worker and would hate it if the opportunity was not there to take clients fishing.
If you do catch a spawning cod with corn or a bunch of worms while angling, thays OK because it's just 1 fish in 1 spot.
It's the people that boat or kayak up and down the rivers casting lures at hundreds of different snags that can do the most damage.
robbiefishing thx for the reply and thx for the vid, learnt heaps👍.
Don't catch cod off nest most time they don't go back sometimes
i had no idea, i wouldve gone fishing this spring thanks so much for this video. Just so i know is it alright to fish late november early december?
Hey Joe, early December is fine mate. Also, don't feel bad. I myself use to catch them in spring thinking that it was OK as long as I released them., that was until I became educated on the importance of leaving them alone. It's still OK to fish in spring, just do your best to avoid them. I use small baits like worms, and avoid lures. If you use things like cheese, bardi grubs or lures, which are all known cod baits you are asking for trouble. If you're just angling with worms, you may catch a spawning cod, but you likely wont. If you do, it will most likely only be 1 or 2, as opposed to catching heaps if you're lure fishing!
If I use lures in a river or creek it would be for Redfin
Me too mate. Most rivers with decent numbers of Murray cod contain few redfin.
Great video mate! Keep up your great channel and thanks for the great information
Hey Jack thanks heaps mate.
Great article Robbie, maybe it's time we have a closed fishing in areas of rivers.
What happens if the water flows to hard could it wash fish out of there holes and hurt/kill them
Possibly but not in great numbers. The flood waters will most certainly displace a lot of fish, but I doubt that many will die.
robbiefishing ok thx mate
robbiefishing only a month to go now mate get everything ready
