- Back in 2016 our first Uncorking episode that we both did together was comparing two E.H. Taylor Single Barrels for different years. To pay homage to that episode for our five year anniversary, we decided to recreate the same episode with one exception, we subbed out the 2nd Single Barrel for the Small Batch. Which one will be prefer? Let's find out.

I just picked up the EH Taylor small batch, going to try it for the first time.
Also just wanted to say thank you for all the content! I've been drinking bourbon casually for a long time, but a recent trip to Lexington and finding your channel has taken my game to a whole new level. Just picked up some Blantons, Larceny, Elijah Craig, Evan Williams (Single Barrel, BIB and 1783), Wild Turkey (101 and Rare Breed), Russell's Reserve 10, Buffalo Trace, 1792 BIB, a couple ryes (Pikesville and Whistlepig 10) and a few from a local distillery. Pretty much following the beginner recommendations I've seen from you two. Going to host a blind flight fight to try some of them out tomorrow!! Oh and love the sweatshirt and copitas!
Yall just blew my mind. I have that same E.H taylor bottle that yall think is bad and I had the same conclusion! Its still sitting on my shelf and I had sworn off the brand until I heard this news. Ill have to go try a newer batch and see if its really that different. Thanks Chad and Sara and congrats on keeping strong with this site!

Wow…walked into a Big retail shop today and they offered me the EH Taylor small batch. Thinking I would be dropping $100….nope retail $39.99. Never thought I would see some of these allocated bottles. But like everything else, they are out there. Looking forward to popping it open! Love your channel.
I've only tasted one EH Taylor Single Barrel and that one tasted really similar to the Small Batch, so it wasn't worth it to me to spend the extra money on. The small batch is so good and consistent that it's hard to pass up (when you can find it)! Cheers to 5 years of amazing content!!!
Scored 2 bottles of the Small Batch at Buffalo Trace last month. Purchased both for $90. Have not yet tried it, but may now have to open one up. Thanks for the review. Always fun to watch you chat up about bourbon. 🙂

Catching up on old episodes. Just got my first bottle of EH Taylor small batch a month ago close to MSRP for $55. I have not opened yet, waiting for a special occasion. I have not seen a bottle of the Single Barrel yet, but hopefully can find one at a reasonable price. Great channel.

I've had both small batch and single barrel. Love both... but I've found the single barrel was more savory.

Found a small batch last night for $52. Super happy!
I ran into both recently sitting side by side at a store and was not surprised that they were not "on sale" at retail. I was surprised that the small batch was more expensive than the single barrel. The small batch was $120 while the single barrel was $100. I expected it to be the other way around.
I work in a liquor store in FL and we just got two bottles of small batch EH Taylor and ELT sour mash. Went with the EH Taylor and brought it home. I’m pretty new to Bourbon and the other allocated I’ve ever had is the regular Buffalo Trace. Excited to start this journey!

Happy 5th! This was may lucky weekend. I was in our Idaho State Liquor store yesterday. I mentioned I hadn't seen a Col. Taylor in quite some time. She said they had one come in yesterday held in the back for a local bar. Bars get first chance before the general public. They were late in confirming they wanted it. She said "its yours". I got a small batch for $ 41. I also scored a Weller Antique 107.
i've had 2 of the single barrels in store pick selection form...absolutely phenomenal and not something i've seen alot of stores doing.
Small Batch is so good. I'll pay as much as $120 for it if I can find it.

Looked this up in particular because small batch is one of my favorites and wanted to get some opinions on the single, you were spot on. My wife goes to Costco today as she’s shopping she sees a worker putting out small batch, he put out 6, she left with 6, great wife. And $35.99 per bottle, what a score today. Looking forward to your Sunday stream! I've only had the small batch E. H. Taylor but it was definitely one I really enjoyed... so somehow I need to try and sample all of them now. I also have some fancy glassware heading my way too. It's been a wild ride being part of this WhiskeyTube community, I feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled into this crazy whiskey world. Plus, in case you didn't know after all these years... I definitely drink more bourbon now... and yes, I blame you two amazing human beings for that.
I think these Taylors are all over the place. I have had 4 small batches and one was way different. I have had 3 single barrels opened, and they have all been different. I have 3 store picks that I need to open. I am going to compare a small batch, a sib sp, and the sib I have opened here soon. Excited for that night lol.
You should draw a random patron to send a sample of the wet hay bottle too. I’ve been hearing about this bottle for years, would love a chance to taste it lol

We had a 'wet hay', almost silage bottle of Taylor a few years ago. Made cocktails and they were OK.
$40...Yeah... just saw it in Bardstown, KY today.
Small batch was $129. Another (couldn't tell which) because when I saw the $400 price tag, I instantly dismissed.

Have a few expressions of EHT, my absolute favorite is the straight rye followed by the barrel proof. Wish they released barrel proof more often.

I really do enjoy the hell put of EH Taylor small batch! It's the only one when I got to the distillery with the old lady we both get one! That is of course of that's what they have for the day! It's the only buffalo trace of the core 4 that I MUST have a backup for!
Just picked up an EHT small batch for $50 last week. Only the second time I've found it. I really enjoyed the first bottle, hope this one is as good. Never seen an EHT SiB so based on this review I won't worry about it! Happy 5 years kids.

It’s like watching a couple of mom and dads drink whiskey.
I, for the first time, found a bottle of small batch, this past Friday...at retail!! ($56) I couldn't grab it fast enough. It is a spectacular bourbon, and may well be on it's way to my favorite bourbon. My only regret is, in that the three years since I've really gotten into bourbon, this is the first time I've ever seen a bottle....so I may need to save it and only drink it on occasion, until I happen to stumble across another bottle of it.
One of my local barrel proof faves here in Michigan is Detroit City Distillery Butcher's Cut

LOL! Those prices just two years ago… Now online prices for small batch is around $140 and single barrel around $270. I have yet to find either one in West Virginia or Virginia.
I would pay the extra $40 for the Single Barrel because then I could brag about having one and post pictures of it online…my life on social media is the only one worth living.
I had a pour at a bar of the small batch and loved it! Since then I went looking for a bottle and the last time I saw one it was for $140…

My first sip of a new EH Taylor single barrel was skunky and I was really disappointed. I went back 1 week later for another try and it was wonderful! The air entering the bottle must have opened up the whisky and the funk was entirely gone. I was sad to see it go, so I bought another bottle.
Still one of my favourite bourbons of all time.
Just catching up on your videos... I have seen these on the shelf, but I opted for Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek 9, and Evan Williams BIB, for a few dollars less than one bottle EH Small Batch. So, now I ask you... Would you rather walk away with those 3 or just the 1 bottle?

Hey Doc! I’m going with Otoga 222 the Pit Droid from Phantom Menace. I’ll go with the Colonel E. H. Taylor small batch.
I love the small batch! However I have never tried the single barrel. The small batch is $145 here in north GA, the cheapest I’ve seen it is $79 (which I pounce on).
Holy cow. $37 bucks here for the small batch at Costco.
We brought home a single barrel last May, it was really good but now after the awards the price and availability is out of this world. We have only gotten 2 single barrels since last June, it's really scarce.
EH Taylor both of those are fantastic if you can find them

Concur with spending the money on small batch. With some exceptions, single barrels can offer an expensive disappoint.

E.H. Taylor, both the small batch and single barrel, go for around 100 € here in Germany which is like 120 $. It’s insane. I got a regular Blanton's for around 80 $, I bought it for special occasions, but haven’t tried it yet.
Blanton's is badly over-rated.
I got a box of Weller by Cohiba cigar it was made to pair with Weller 12yr, do you have lost of Bourbon that could live up to Weller 12yr Old or better that will not break the bank

I was at Total Wine today buying my first bottle of Michters Rye. I noticed the customer behind me buying a bottle of Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch BIB, so I said "good choice". He excitedly said, "I'm from Indiana, can't find it there, it's $45.00 and there's one more on the counter over there". I made a B Line over to that counter and snatched it up. Colonel Taylor was sitting in the middle of 10 to 15 bottles of Eagle Rare. An employee said "everybody's buying that (EH Taylor BIB). I think I landed in the middle of a small allocation, what luck. I'll let you know what I think of both later.

Question? How do figure out what year the bottle was dumped or bottled?
There should be a laser code near the bottom that starts with an “L” and 2 numbers after is which would be the year. Mine says “L19....”
What is the "L 2"? mean?
I once bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve double oaked. It smelled and tasted awful. I think it had a moldy cork. I took it back where I bought it and the manager who I know well opened it. He immediately said we are getting you another bottle. He said something like this rarely happens but there is no doubt something is wrong. My new bottle was great.
It's weird but I get the "grapey" note with Old Forester, particularly the 100 proof cheaper OF offering.

Yeah. We don’t see any EHT in Texas. Was able to pick up two small batch while visiting family in Frankfort. It’s a once a month treat.

The Single Barrel is def a try before you buy for me. The balance and consistency of the Small Batch at retail is very hard to beat. Clear wiener!
Found one SB at my LS last week and paid $45. I was shocked.
I just paid 100 for the small batch didn’t realize it was that marked up. Saw it once before for 150 and I though that was too high.

I’ve got an eht single barrel from a few years ago that tastes like waterlogged wood and cardboard. It was a huge disappointment and is still mostly full.
Couple Goals
I can only imagine the horribleness of the "Wet Hay" bottle :( ... I think, while not "Wet Hay", I have experienced similar disappointment with a Michters 10 year bourbon, with which I still struggle after several months, of giving up on because of paying way too much on secondary market. Moving forward unless we are able to try it in advance of buying it, should we shy away from single barrels in favor of small batch? It is maybe a small difference, but it might markedly decrease the likelihood of similar "Wet Hay" or other descriptors types of disappointing experiences. Excellent video! Thank You!

In Singapore, both small batch and single barrel retails at US$125 minimum. Nasty.
Maybe in youbjuck bottle you get some wood and burn it forbX amount of time and put the wood into the bottle to change the profile of it and move it around the room daily just my thought
I feel like for as difficult as it is to find a Small Batch, it’s just not worth it. The Single Barrel I was able to get was pretty good, but I’d rather drink WT101 over the Small Batch.

Watched an episode of Fred Minnick. The master distiller at MM said it will never happen. I think it's a bad decision. If MM bottled 10-12 year old juice at cask strength, I believe it would crush the competition.

Very disconcerting. Usually single barrels are honey barrels.
I would rather go for the small batch or barrel proof over the single barrel. It's just too inconsistent.
