This is so timely. My Dad, who died on 1.14.22, used to make this for me. Unbelievable that you posted this. I haven't had pastina in probably 15 years. Going in for Dad tomorrow.
So sorry Joseph for your loss,💕💔
So sorry for your loss. It is amazing how food helps us stay close to family, even when they are no longer here with us.
So Sorry. If you're Dad was a great one your gonna hurt hard but try to remember the good memories. With the blessing comes the pain. I still cry over mine, it's been over a decade.
Joseph so very sorry for your loss
God bless you.
So sorry for your loss... My mom who passed last August made this for me my whole life too! I've passed it down to my little ones, it's a staple in our house! I love to see other families keeping this tradition going 🙏🏻❤️
I’m a chef that works in fine dining and I must say your food looks excellent. I really enjoy making some of your recipes at home. You bring elements of Italian cuisine that I have never experienced before. Thank you!
Same here!
I doubt you are a chef in fine dining
All my life, my mom always stirred in a raw egg in our pastina with butter and Romano cheese, (Sicilian). Still my favorite, and I am not a kid anymore.😘
You are like a long lost brother. In my early childhood I lived in S. Philly across the street from the Italian produce markets. Dad was Italian. I left the east coast for the west coast in my thirties and couldn't find a decent bowl of linguine with white clam sauce since. So I learned to cook with help from you and a few others. Your videos are the best and your love of food is obviously genuine. Love you, man! PS - I like veg, but my kid would prefer no veg.
My Italian mother definitely raised us on the first version anytime we were sick, but as a grown man, I look forward to trying the second recipe - that looks delicious!
I made your nostalgic version for my sick toddler last night. She's a picky eater, but ate every bit of the pastina. Thank you for the recipe!
I just made this for the first time. The whole time I’m thinking this doesn’t have enough flavor. Doesn’t have enough seasoning. Then at the end when I put that egg and cheese in there oh my God, I thought I died and went to heaven. It brought everything together so well. This was really good. I’ll definitely make it again
"You're sick - who cares?" I love that! 🤗 An amazing take on a childhood favorite comfort food. Grazie, Stephen!
We always had pastina growing up and even still, it’s the best medicine. I usually sweat some diced onion and add frozen peas or spinach or a small dice of zucchini. It’s an easy way to add some nutrition to the comfort of Pastina!!
My mom used to make this for my brother & I as kids. She called it Grandma Soup, go figure. She used the di pepe, shredded chicken, carrots, & celery. It was for sure the go-to. We just got over our second round of the dreaded ILLNESS & are dealing with some residual yuckiness. Sounds like a great time to make a pot.
I'm gonna turn 50 years old in May of this year. I still make pastina as my nonna did when I was a child. It is that one thing that makes me feel like im home with family.
Love it! Isn't every Italian kid raised eating pastina? We make the first version, no cheese, all butter. We also "graduated" to ancini di pepe after a certain age. My grown kids still want me to make it for them when they come home! Molto Buono!
We use to have it with all butter also..
My Italian mother and grandmother made us the first version. I still make this today for my family!
As soon as you said grandma’s cure all, I was sold!
My dad would make this for me, when I was little I would call it "pissytina" 🤣
That's so funny, made me bust out laughing.
😂😂
Unappetizing fr
Pissytina that's too funny so cute
Omg I can't believe you even admitted it. It's 10 minutes I am still cracking up. Oh, God I'm gonna be walking shopping & repeating that. They are gonna take me away Pissytina! I can't get it out if my head
My late partner taught me to make a version of this, but into the hot broth he would add beaten egg and then a small amount of lemon juice, then add the pasta (cooked separately, and usually all we had was orzo). It was comforting and easy to digest. God I miss that man.
Sorry for your loss, 😔😞Your Recipe sounds delicious.
@@annabelles1622 This is avgolemono sauce!!! Hello from Greece where this recipe is so widespread and beloved :)
@@Leonardo-fm7fj Hello to Greece from San Antonio TX. Thank you for letting me know the name!
Do you make this dish?
This is brilliant. I make this both ways. My mom taught us the first way and as an adult I did it the 2nd way. Seriously this guy is the best teacher I've ever seen, he tells you why and shows you how.
Wait not kale, we used escarole.
I grew up eat acini de pepe and my mom always dropped an egg or two into the mix. My brother and I would always look forward to a bowl especially after sledding or ice skating back in the day. I definitely will try it with those veggies. Thank you for another great video 👌🏻
I am not Italian by birth, but my sister and I enjoyed the Pastina Cure when we were sick as well. It was so comforting and my Mom made it similar to your first recipe, but without the cheese and olive oil. She cooked it in chicken broth, however, sometimes homemade sometimes canned. Makes me want to go out and buy a box. LOL A box of di pepe too, that looks VERY yummy as an alternative.
I love this! My grandma and I like to watch your videos together, and growing up as a picky child, Pastina and Acini di Pepe were pastas she always made me! Can’t wait to try the second version :)
Your grandmother would be proud!
It’s crazy that ten years ago the traditional version would appeal to me, now that I’m older and maybe wiser, the refreshed version looks perfect. 👌
Everyone I know is sick right now too!! I just made my mom Greek Avgolemono soup, sort of wish I would have made your grown-up pastini instead. that looks delicious! Stay well!!
6:25 you move your hands better than Artie Bucco ever did in a Sopranos episode!
Bravo!🇮🇹🇺🇲🇮🇹
Perfect timing. My wife had throat surgery yesterday, and I made the second version for her.
Thanks, Stephen.
Thank you so much for this. My grandma used to make this for me when I was llittle. I was taken from her at age 5 and never saw her again. This means so much.
So sorry to hear that! The time you had with her was so precious. If even for a moment a beautiful soul cared for us nothing will ever change that.
Love 💓 pastina. My Mom made a soup version with veg and also as a hot breakfast cereal version by cooking the pastina in milk then adding a touch of vanilla extract, a pat of butter 🧈, cinnamon and a hint of fresh grated nutmeg 😋🤤
I always grow up with the stars, butter and Parm, that's what my Sicilian Mom always made me when I wasn't feeling well. God bless!🙏
I have now made this three times since I saw it posted a couple weeks ago. It's the perfect, easy, healthy meal. Planning to make it AGAIN when mom descends for Thanksgiving holiday for the long post-airplane-angst-y- travel-void comfort food. Prepping the veg/broth tonight so that I just have to toss in the pasta, cheese, butter, eggs when she gets here. Loaf of home made bread? Heaven. I wish you could really know how much your videos have hit my cooking life. It started with cacio pepe, and so many others, and then recently, on to that wonderful roasted Calabrian chili sauce (I grew Calabrian chili this year because of THAT sauce!) Gotta say---when you hit on a recipe, it's just always golden. Thank you so much. I really need to subscribe to your Patreon, if that's still a thing you do. It's nice to see someone who just kinda is so good in their own true skin. Rare. Keep on cooking.
I love the "shop videos" please keep them coming! Can't wait to see the progression on your new build!
Made this tonight with grilled cheese, for my son and husband. It was so so good.. so comforting and delicious. We subbed spinach for the kale and it was fabulous. Thank you!
My grandmother and mother made both of these but used Ditalini instead. LOVE the egg drop, my grandfather first showed me that trick when he made made pasta Aglio e olio!! I've made all of these for my kids and they love them. Especially my son and the egg drop. Great video, thanks for posting! Thinking of my grandparents now.
I am looking forward to getting sick.......what the heck why wait until then I'll cook it tonight. Thank you very much for sharing these culinary gems with the rest of the world!
My mom made it for me when I was young and now she makes it for my kids. Good stuff!
I add an egg or two to my soup too. My aunt used to always add a cuople of eggs to the chicken soup. She didn't beat them so it was fun finding the hardened egg yolk in the soup.
Love the veggie/egg version. Will be making this for the rainy weather coming up - again!
Thank you.
grew up half Italian and half Irish. When I was sick it was Pastina and flat 7Up to heal whatever ailed me. Love Pastina.
Your newer version does look amazing, but I could never completely give up the way my mother used to make it for me which is exactly the way your original version is prepared. Brings me right back to my childhood instantly
I love everything you upload. You are so thorough with your instructions.
So many memories came back to me, watching you make the Pastina! I’ll definitely try your second recipe. Thank you.
Never had either soups but looking forward to trying both versions. Look easy and tasty. Thank you! Great time of year for comforting soups.
So happy that you're back!
Looks delish!
Awesome! Made this today with my parents and we loved it
What (Italian) childhood memories are made of! Pure heaven! Thank You 🙏
thank goodness you're back! missed your warmth, wit, and food.
Glad you’re ok bro, love this channel, everything is always amazing and your instruction is fantastic. 👍

OMG I grew up with this…so nostalgic! Thank you!
Love all your Italian and italo-american recipes, thanks!!
I went for the adult version - Sensational! Thank you very much!
Made it last night, turned out great. Right on - thanks!
Not feeling well and literally omw to the store now to get the ingredients to make this. Thank youuuuu this is everything I want RN.

This sounds so yummy. Perfect timing too! I woke up sick today and I am now definitely making this for dinner tonight
I just made this for the 4th time since your video came out. It's so good. Thank you!
the updated version looks insanely good!!
I appreciate your teaching style.
An groovy attitude.
🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵
I just came across this cooking channel, and I love it. This recipe looks great, and I agree, it looks better on the little soupier side. Even if you're not ailing, this looks like it would brighten your day.
Love this channel. Thank you.💙
Love it man 1st time watching your show THANKS I will try both
I am gonna make this with my daughter tomorrow! Thank you as always.
Thank you for showing these pastina.
my grandma used to make this for me it was like a go to thing for when i was sick o just hungry it was always amazing and still is one of my favorite comfort foods
Love the one with the Kale! became a comfort food. Thank you.
I just found your UA-cam channel being a foodie and lm loving your recipes! Very informative and your sense of humour is a hoot!
I really enjoy your videos and I have recently found a love for cooking. I like the creativity of cooking and food is the true currency. Flavor is not restricted by time or location and you explain everything so well. Thank you.
Yummy. Super easy. Thank you.
I'm so happy I found your channel!!!! I can't pick, I like both versions!!
Great video. I love recipes that can be customised bssed on what you have on hand.
That kale and carrots for sure I use to make for my children we all loved it
I made both. Both very good. As a sick adult, I like the second version best. I bought several boxes of both pastas, so it’s always on hand. Veggies on hand is the variation I make, I usually have a CostCo bag of power greens in the freezer. The egg drop, is a must have! Thanks for sharing
Loved both!!
Dude, just made the 2nd version today and it was freaking amazing. The chili flakes added a nice little unexpected surprise. Loved this recipe. Cannot believe how easy it was to make also. And the egg was a nice touch as well. GREAT
I always add RedHot to my soup ! Doesn't matter what kind of soup , it always gets it !
Beautiful video. Cozy feeling for a day, when everything that can go wrong, does. Bless your soul. HaHa at “don’t tell the Italian’s”
I’m sick right now and was looking for something good to make myself. Can’t wait to try this!
Pasting with veggies! Yum! Thank you!
I love this recipe, I have made it twice and I seriously think it is the best thing I have ever made.
Looks gorgeous! And I can veganize it. Grandkids will love it. Thank you!
Excellent recipes thank you. Before even cooking this, I already know the grown up one is for me. Can't wait to try this.
I grew up eating it the first way. As an adult, I throw in whatever veggies I might have on hand: a little onion, carrot, celery, spinach, etc. Frozen peas or grated zucchini is nice too, particularly if you have a nice small garden zucchini. They are so sweet. I've never tried it with the egg.
That really really sounds good I'm not feeling too good right now so I'm going to make me some.i am really glad i found you and your videos you are so easy to listen to God bless you
Love the traditional one, but your newer version sounds amazing! Will give that one a try!
Wooow this brought back sooo many memories from my childhood
Those tiny stars are so adorable!!! I thought it was just couscous (I mean, I guess it still is). Never have seen this at the store, super cool!
I just made the first version and it is so much better than what I got as a kid when sick, Campbell's Chicken & Stars. Amazing!
Good when you’re sick or not, it always hits the spot!
The ultimate comfort food & a nice version two👍🤗
I’ve made the “adult” version twice. We absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing it. 😀
Both sounds delish, second one perhaps more to it. Thanks!
Really enjoyed the video I’m gonna have to try this one!
Love your show and passion! My Calabrese family always made this and we still do. Such a versatile dish anyone can experiment with. I learned to make it by infusing olive oil with the garlic and chili flakes, add broth and pastina, we didn't use veggies but added fresh cracked pepper. I have since begun adding veggies and love it with spinaci! Keep up the great work!! Ciao
I'm going to make this tonight. Thank you
I've never heard of this but am willing to try it. Super simple to make so I'll definitely give it a try.
Been a while since you posted this. I've made it several times, deliciosa! Yesterday I made with some leftover saffron rice, OMG! Thanks for the basic recipe... I will use it forever!
Number two please... always a great video, learn something new every time.
This looks wonderful... and yummy! Have never had this pasta before.
Looking forward to serving this to my family🤗
My grandmother used to make this all the time for us. Unfortunately, I was very young and didn't pay attention to how she did it. Thanks for this video. I can't wait to make it! All your other recipes that I've made have come out amazing.
I love both versions
Ahhh! What a wonderful entry. Pastina!
