I don’t think that the problem is about where the music comes from. It’s about calling Hip Hop either a musical genre and that only, or a culture. If you view Hip Hop as just black music than by all means acknowledge that it was sampling all types of music and that was the issue with even black musicians of the past to give it credit as real music anyway. But if you want to call it a culture, the music, fashion, dance, dj’ing, it’s all multi-cultive. To use the N word as an example is horrible because that’s a white man’s word. It’s like saying basketball is a black man’s sport when it was created by a white man. And so was vinyl.

Seeing what cultural backgrounds they have just shows how it was in the beginning. Extremely diverse. I will say that black America definitely represents Hip Hop at its best.
