AVaffair4 how’s it going? Thanks for posting. 👍🏾 Melvin was born in 1954 they got the year right, but the age Wrong. When he died May 18, 2019 they say he was 65 ; he was 64 Not 65 on November 2, 2019 he’ll be 65

Nothing like the original AFTER7 with Melvin. Saw them in concert and it was awesome!!! Love you Melvin. Never forgotten. Always loved.
After 7 is in my top 10 favorite artists/singing groups. I remember hearing Ready or not for the first time. I was in Baton Rouge visiting family, and had stayed the night with my Aunt Lois, the first song that came on the radio was As We Lay by Shirley Murdock. Her vocals woke me up. As I was lying there the next song to come on was Ready or Not. When I heard the first verse, I got chills. Melvin's voice was so smooth and the way he sang his part was so pretty to me. The melody of how he sung his part just does something to me almost seducing, even at 42 years of age this song does something to me. And Kevon comes in with his roaring falsetto and takes the song up 10 notches. This song just gives me life! Hit the like button if this song gives you life too!

Melvin was my favorite of the After 7 group. He had such a rich sexy voice. I only wish he had left us at least one solo album. I'm truly saddened by his departure, and may his loved ones find peace.

Nov 2, 1953*. I never got to meet Melvin but his voice was so amazing. I think he could’ve went solo and had a great career. Nice video.
I agree...much like Kevon released a Solo Album. From what I read during the creation of this memorial...although Melvin struggled with drug addiction, he also dealt with disappointment in the music industry, and this was the main reason he left the group the first time, and then, later his health was failing, and his son stepped into that role moving forward.

It is a blessing that his son (Jason Edmonds) replaced him in the group, and Jason can sing, has a smooth delivery, and blends almost as well as Melvin did with Kevon's STRONG upper range and Falsetto. Jason also plays piano, and writes music, so this should help them to have MORE creative control over the music that THEY produce. Happy Throwback Thursday my friend.

Wow..I met him when the first Album came out..When they 1st came to Atlanta..I was working at a Restaurant in Sandy Springs..Melvin would often come thru..he was so nice.he gave me 2 autographed albums(Ready or Not)..I gave one to a Co-worker..she was so excited.RIP Melvin!PS..we had a little History 😊💜🙏he did show me a video of the group, when they first came2Atlanta,on a Private jet!!.fun times

I agree...and if you come across any, please share. From what I discovered in the making of this memorial, it appears that Melvin was not happy with dealings in the Music Industry, and various Trials and Tribulations related to the evils in the music industry were very depressing to him, and because he struggled with addiction, those challenges were not good for his mental, and physical health.

Its must have been a difficult time 4 him. Babyface should have looked after things. But I think the bigger labels took advantage of these people.
@@moreflowfalls2404 - I agree, and in that industry, their familial ties with Babyface may have been detrimental. As you correctly stated, their 3 Studio Albums, and Their Greatest Hits Album were ALL on the Virgin Records Ltd. Label. That said, they probably signed a lengthy deal, as opposed to a Short Term Deal. Babyface wrote, and Produced MOST of their Hits, so their Income was Very Limited, and they likely had a Busy Tour Schedule to earn a Living.
Moreflow Falls, there may not be very many. Knowing him personally, he as content letting Kevon be the spokesman. Like a lot of performers, he came to life, once he hit the stage.

The song Sara, in my opinion, should not be song by anyone else because no one will ever come close to what Mr Melvin Edmonds did with those words and that name. It is as if he is pleading for her love and would give any and every thing just to see a simple smile on her face. So dearly sincere. There are no words to describe what level of emotional passion that surfaced because he seemed to be singing to only you and every single word was the truth. You can tell I loved him.
