Mount Hood is a stratovolcano located in the Cascade Range in northern Oregon, United States. It is the highest mountain in the state and the fourth highest in the Cascade Range, with a summit elevation of 11,249 feet (3,429 meters). Mount Hood is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the United States due to its proximity to Portland, the state's largest city and a major population center, and the fact that it has erupted several times in the past.
Mount Hood is also a popular destination for recreational activities like hiking, skiing, and climbing. It is home to several ski resorts, including Timberline Lodge Ski Area, which is open year-round and is one of the few ski areas in the world to offer lift-served skiing on a glacier. The mountain also offers several challenging climbing routes, including the South Side, the Hogsback, and the Reid Glacier Headwall, which are popular among experienced climbers.
