    Great amp I loaded mine with a celestion blue. Pulled the cheap tubes out dropped in quality ecc83s and the power tube went to a Reflektor 6p14p k series. Made a two piece open back panel and now have an excellent recording and mic'd stage amp.

    You can however replace the EL84 tube in Vox amps without worrying about biasing.

      Thanks for the great info and videos, but can you explain why you do not need to bias this amp? I am looking at replacing all the tubes In mine, but there is nothing in the manual about it. Is there any further considerations you need to make with the EL84?

      @@monolith7183 The amp is cathode biased, so the tube self adjusts. No bias adjustments required.

    The electronics can be removed with the back cover. You don’t need to separate the chassis from the rear panel.

    Dude, you've mic'd the amp off axis, since the sm57 is a cardioid mic, making sure that the mic is perpendicular to the speaker (i.e. facing the speaker) will make sure you pick up the sound a lot closer to what you're hearing in the room and will eliminate a lot of the background noise like the string noise.

    Mike , what are your overall thoughts on this amp ? I have it m the AC-10 and the blue special edition of this one as well but have yet to plug into any of them. I just haven’t got around to taking them for a test spin yet.

    So how did it sound compared to stock? It would be nice to talk about that. I'm thinking about swapping the tubes on my AC 4 too.

    Hey Mike thank you again for your videos as always. I'm pretty sure I only have the one monoprice too bad that they came with something called JJ's I'm sure they're Chinese or or what? I know there are only three or four factories that still make tubes in general I think one is in some Eastern European country China of course and I'm not sure where the other two are the Czech Republic maybe or something like that? It's a shame that the well I won't go any further with that one lol. I'm old enough to remember everything tubes. I remember I grew up in New York City and there was a corner of drugstore when I was really young it even had a food counter in it every place had a food counter in it in the 60s and earlier in the United States lol. And of course in the cities you had your corner luncheonette a must for every New York neighborhood. Drugstore / food counter they had a section where they had all their tubes and they had a tube tester. I noticed in the video You're a pun on Star Trek I picked up because I was basically a track he's still level to watch all the old stuff. But anyway there was this huge tube test and it had all these switches and it had the the metal kneel needle probes and it had a rotary switches and it had push buttons and it had all these places you can plug your tubes in to test them. I used to go to it and play spaceman on it while my dad did whatever he was doing in the store picking up medication buying some items whatever I would play with that and I loved it. So yeah I'm old enough to definitely remember tubes. And having to replace them. My dad and I built a heath kit that was a company that sold a kits for radio zamplifiers whatever. And we built a small 12 watt per channel stereo amplifier. And it had tubes in it of course LOL thanks Mike have to make a comment here so keep safe sincerely yours, above the blind bedroom guitarist PS you got me you got me like itching on trying to find Old stock tubes or some American tubes. I would think the Russian tubes going back in the day would be good too because you know it was a technology waste and they needed to have decent tubes for what they did which was make weapons of war LOL I don't think they were too many stereo Hi-Fi systems in the average home in Russia and the USSR.

    When you change tubes in an amp, you Really need to wipe the new inserted tubes off by wearing white cotton gloves & rub each tube all over really well.
    This keeps your naked hands from leaving a print on the glass that would cause heat sink. The heat sink Will shorten tube life dramatically.

    • @USTTRM
      @USTTRM  2 роки тому +1

      This is based on halogen bulbs failing prematurely due to oily skin in contact with the glass. The oils in your hand would cause the glass to expand and contract. This is true for the halogen bulbs but not so for tubes.

    As a added note, you should never swap the power amp valves without biasing the amp. Best to have this done professionally re EL34, EL84, 6V6 and 6L6GC valves.
