I hated TLJ... Until I saw this movie. This movie has helped me heal mentally, actually learning to accept that failure is okay. You can always get up again. It let me kknow to take care of myself and don't hold myself to a high standard. That's what HFPs movie did for me. I could pick apart that movie second by second, and every single cut and edit is significant. All of it. Every word. I found so many attachments to it. That I couldn't even do it in real time, I would have to pause it every bit.
Luke’s story in TLJ is special to me because of my little brother’s reaction to it. He loves Luke, Luke is his hero, and he also deals with a lot of anxiety over fear of failure, but after we walked out of the film, he told me that he wasn’t scared anymore because if Luke could fail and stand back up and try again and save the day, then he could be brave too. At that moment, I recognized that TLJ had succeeded in doing something that George Lucas had wanted Star Wars to do since its inception, teach and give valuable lessons for young kids. For my little brother, he wasn’t seeing story issues and debating what Luke would or wouldn’t do, he just saw a story of his hero fail but trying again, a story he could relate to and learn from. I appreciate TLJ and Rian Johnson for that. I also appreciate HFP for tying in all the connections across all the films and making the references and callbacks more clear for people to see, and giving a new perspective on the story TLJ told.
I guess it's a generational thing. I grew up with the prequels and the clone wars and so when I saw the Last Jedi I immediately made all these connections in my head that HFP did. I do somewhat understand your perspective. As a kid, I didn't know that the Original trilogy existed and so when I saw them I found myself constantly questioning Yoda and Obi-Wan's characters. I was like that's not how they're supposed to act. From my point of view, Obi-wan uses Luke to fix his mistakes. He recklessly trains him, lies to him the entire time, and hopes that he would somehow finish what he started and end Vader. His character learned nothing from his past mistakes and Luke succeeds by not listening to Obi-Wan's advice. That was hard for kid me to stomach. I am hopeful that the Kenobi series addresses this issue
That is such a different perspective. I love hearing it! I don’t think I’ve thought about how growing up with the prequels would change someone’s perspective on Yoda and Obi-Wan. Really have to wonder what the next generations point of view will be.
I was one of the few who actually liked the most recent movies. I had been trying to sell people on what exactly I saw in them... and this video really helps me explain my point of view regarding Luke's story. Its one of my favorites from them. I know a lot of fans of Luke think the movies made Luke out to be an angry old man and that they took the hero out of him but that's what interested me! It's what drew me into the story more. It made me want to know WHY is luke being this way, what happened that pushed him to this? If he came back as same old luke, he would have been boring to me. Like Leia. She came back as same old Leia and there was no substance to her. Anyways... I'm babbling.
Not babbling at all! I can completely see your point of view and all opinions are always welcome on my channel (well, except for toxic ones🙂). For me, I don't mind a bitter and broken Luke. I just think it would have landed for me better if they hammered home everything he went through. It was just a couple flashbacks and then Luke gives up. No, show me what shook this man to his core! I buy he could stray from the path. I just never felt like they never paid off the 'darkness in him worse than I'd ever seen' line (paraphrased).
I actually really like Luke's story in Last Jedi. I like stories where characters actually get broken by failure but eventually pick themselves back up. It makes them feel more human but also like "the best of us" for the rise back up. I get why people didn't like it once it was explained to me but his story worked for me. I do however not care much for any of the new characters. The best two being Finn and Poe who are pretty enjoyable to watch. So sadly while I liked Force Awakens and Last Jedi fine I didn't like Rise of Skywalker cause at that point the story could no longer rely on the old generation, the new characters were the ones needing to carry the story.
Honestly I don’t care what many people say, TLJ i amazing and this tribute took the message of that movie and made it even better, Luke is still human and nobody is perfect, nobody not even Luke Skywalker and that is OK. I love how that movie shows a different angle on the force and Luke’s (older) character (yes when you are young and naive you belive that everything is possible but as you grow and become an older person you have much more experience and different look on everything; people change as they grow so Luke in TLJ makes sence and I love his character now becose of his redemtion- he learned from his mistakes and failure and did the right thing). And if someone can’t get over how “unique” this movie is and becose it is part of Disney’s sequel trilogy than don’t watch it then and go make a “perfect” movie (even if the perfect movie doesn’t exist and all SW movies have some flaws).
TLJ is not only my favourite sw movie, it is my favourite movie and Luke's arc is one of the reasons why. Luke is in a very different place than 30 years ago. And we shouldn't forget, that he never witnessed first hand what Vader had done. He lost so much in the war, so his reaction, his instinct to ignite his saber is him just beeing the impulsive Luke we all know. He alsways stops himself though and that is what makes Luke...Luke. HFPs videos are a treasure! Great reaction btw
No. That is not the luke we knew from the original trilogy. That luke would have gone straight to help his friends if he knew they were in danger without hesitation. They destroyed lukes character completely in TLJ. And he was literally trying to kill a boy without Any reason…Yes ben might have had a darkside to him but its not like its gonna help if your going to kill him. The OT luke would not have had that cross through his mind the sequels are bs
I’m not a fan of what R. Johnson did with TLJ, but this has helped remind me how relatable Luke really is. Experiencing extreme dark times in this life are inevitable; and only thru patience, forgiveness and humility can we chose to preserve thru them. Thank you Mark Hamill for portraying one of the greatest hero’s of all time. Thank you HFP. This was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing your reaction.
I appreciate seeing someone else appreciate all that's happened, It felt like a memory lane thing, it would be great to either see a Vader story or Yoda. Tnx much Sir.
Another awesome reaction and great video! And even though, I'm not a fan of the Disney trilogy, HFP always delivers. They make the tribute videos better than the actual movies in many cases. And this is one of those cases. Keep up the great work man!
When i watch TLJ at silver screen back then.. that Yoda scene flash in my mind.. Based on Original Lucas story.. Luke was supposedly be like in TLJ.. he became sage like Yoda so he rest from those Star Wars and he met Leia and Hans children (which became Rey and Ben).. basically the sequel made to be 'granchild trilogy' and Luke became their mentor.. in Original Trilogi, Luke was so optimist and positive vibe.. for him Evil is Evil.. he in Good side.. but by age he know more.. history repeats.. but Disney want money.. hahaha
Yeah, I remember Mark Hamill talking about how George had asked him (during A New Hope, I think) if he'd come back in 20-30 years and play the Obi-Wan style character for the next generation. Really unfortunate we didn't get to see that vision. Maybe someday Disney will give us a "What if" or something similar so we could at least see a version of that.
I dislike the Last jedi immensely but only because it is badly written and directed but I am going to defend the premise of it. It could have worked so beautifully with Rey pulling Luke out of his mindset of failure. They could have helped each other and restored Luke's faith in the force. Pupil teaching the master and the master teaching the pupil. It just needed a better writer and director.to get rid of all the nonsense that Ruin Johnson put in there and put the heart back in it that clearly HFP did.

Great comment! I love that video too.

"Because I was Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master. A legend"
That "see you around kid" at the very end.... It gets me every time.... It just works so well with the rest of the compilation....

I think the movie didn't explore the how, why or really resolve it.

I really don't like the sequels, but when i saw this tribiute a few weeks ago it made me like them abit more.
It really does help put TLJ in perspective
It definitely makes me see certain aspects differently.
The inclusion of Padme at the end hit diff 😭
🥺💔
I thank J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson for making me emotional and enjoying Star Wars even more for the decisions they made.
Yoda says "You will be" twice; once for the fear in the original trilogy, twice for the fear in the sequels.
I would recomend cheking out dudufilm he makes great tributes
After watching A Hero With No Fear, I definitely put them on my radar.
@@OneProtagonist you should watch Demoncracy by dudufilm
@@javierpowell4705 I’ve added it to the list!

Yeah, I definitely have my problems with the sequel trilogy, but HFP makes them shine :)

I agree the premise was solid. The execution is where I think so much divisiveness comes from.
