At 5:44 minutes in the video I was a bit happy on the throttle. Off course I was just overtaken by the significantly heavier F1 3-seater. For a moment I just couldn't resist the thought, that if that car could make that speed the Prost should be able to do so too. Most probably it could do so indeed, but the Prost needed only a couple of meters to well remember me of the critical difference between the F1 3-seater and the Prost, which... was the driver... ;-)
LRS Formula F1 Driving Experience in Prost AP 04 @ Magny-Cours GP Circuit de Nevers 15-05-2019.
The car is an Alain Prost Grand Prix racer chassis AP 04 car number 6 manufactured 21-03-2001 equiped with a Ford Cosworth V8 F1 engine.

That is not the actual engine tbat car used, right?
Hi Nordi, thank you for watching my video and for your comment. You're right, that it's not the original engine. You can see the engine, which was mounted, in this video: ua-cam.com/video/WVjUQd_HJho/v-deo.html
4:59 did you forget to downshift?
Hi, I tried, but on braking I must accidently have touched the throttle pedal at the same time, because the pedals are so close to each other. Even if I touched the throttle pedal just slightly, then it obstructs the gearbox to shift down as a precaution measure. Thank you for watching my video and for your question.
@@dreamitraceit How easy is the hand clutch to operate? I plan to do this
I think you drove really well. The best amateur in an F1 car I have seen.
Dear Michael, thank you very much for your nice compliment!
For a much better driver you can watch: ua-cam.com/video/psQugXLfvXE/v-deo.html
@@dreamitraceit Thanks for that Joost. It brought me to many videos of amateurs who were very fast in F1 cars. I have a feeling they have deeper pockets than us (certainly me!) and have done this type of thing many times before. Was still very impressive.
@@michaellavery4899 Hi Michael, for amateurs with even deeper pockets you can enter 'ferrari clienti f1' in the search field of youtube. I guess however, that the deepest pockets have their outings at Ascari Race Resort in Spain and they don't bother to post a video on youtube.
Unfortunately my pockets are as empty as they are deep. Last year I made the choise not to exchange my 19 years old scrappy family car for a younger one, and instead to travel to work on a bicycle (20km distance in one way), so I could afford to live my childhood dream (even if only for a few moments) to drive F1.
Those tyres look well past their best, I hope they aren't an original set lol...do they make reproduction grooved tyres?
Hi Kieran, thank you for your response and for watching my video :-) You are right; for the driving experiences only already used tires are mounted. I don't know, if reproduction grooved tyres are available, as I only arrive and drive it like it is...
Looks like such a wonderful experience! Love the camera mounting 😁
Indeed it is. For an F1 enthousiast it's a lifetime experience. In fact for decades I could not imagine getting the opportunity to drive a singleseater like this, and now I have done it three times this year.
Thank you for your compliment on the camera position. And of course for watching my video :-)
@@dreamitraceit Was this mounted on organizers-provided helmet or is it your helmet?
@@milanaero Thank you for watching my video. I used my own helmet and mounted the camera to it.
Not the Ferrari V10 inside tho...
Hi Andres, you're right. In this video you can see the engine, that is fitted: ua-cam.com/video/3daKt2guvKY/v-deo.html
those pseudo-slick tires look vintage… I hope they were fresh at the time
Thank you for watching and for your comment :-) Indeed these grooved tires are vintage in a way. Unfortunately, I have never had the luxury of driving with new/fresh tires in neither of my experiences.
Very very good job man 👍 I like who you increased the pace in a controlled manner.
Sweet camera view as well.
Hi, thank you very much for watching and for your compliment!
Maybe you will like this attempt even better? ua-cam.com/video/pD7GFCrKsLg/v-deo.html
Nice driving! Is this the bronze package? I am considering doing this soon. I am from south Ireland . What are the basic requirements?
Hi Dan, yes, this is the bronze package. Basic requirements for driving the F1: valid drivers license, minimum age 25 years, maximum size 1.88 meters, maximum weight 100kg, maximum shoe size 46 (FR)/11(UK)/11,5(US) and sufficient money to book the experience ;-)
I hope, you decide to go. Pretty sure you'll love it. Looking forward to see your footage.
And by the way: I have fond memories of my two times visiting Ireland in 2013 and 2014, when I was on invitation to the giant pumpkin weighings of the Virginia Pumpkin Festival exactly in this Halloween period.
have you tried the other packages as well? Idk if I should just go all out and take the gold.
I would have loved to, but unfortunately my budget does not allow... But I did speak a contender, who did. He told me, that the Jaguar (not the Prost) of the F1 Silver category will give you the most brutal, unbehaved experience and raw power, BUT because of that this Jaguar F1 is actually not suited for someone, who never did another F1 Experience before. He also told me, that the Williams of the F1 Gold category on contrary will give you the sweetest, easiest drive of the LRS F1 cars, as if you can drive it with fingertips, and even easier than the F1 Bronze category. This contender is not someone, who brags about his experiences, so I believe I can just take his word for it.
@@dreamitraceit thanks for the reply! Now that you mention it, it makes sense that the newer cars are easier to drive. If you’re planning to do some more in the future I hope you get the funds you need. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Did the car have carbon brakes?
Sorry, Luca, I don't know, whether or not the brakes were left as original. The brakes needed a lot of force. A lot more than in the Formule Renault.
Why didnt you reach higher revs?
Great video btw!
For several reasons: 1) This Prost F1 wasn't equiped with the original V10 power unit, but instead with a Cosworth V8, which was more common in F1 cars of a decade or 2 earlier. More reliable and maintenance friendly and therefore making the experience a bit less expensive. 2) I short-shifted in some corners for staying in control. And I just wasn't well enough in driving/handling it. I realy had difficulty in down-shifting, because I failed in proper left foot braking (I didn't fully release throttle, which resulted in down-shift-errors). 3) Instructions were to shift up between at least 3 green led lights und ultimately the first (or only?) red led light. So in this way revs were a bit restricted.
@@dreamitraceit Thats a bummer about the v10 engine. Either way it must have been fun.
Not a bummer to me really, but a choice instead. I consider it as a privilege to have been able to drive this car. I could have chosen to drive a V10 powered F1 car of the LRS Formula stable, but that would have set me back a grand extra. I just wasn't prepared to pay that extra money. Lots of money can satisfy every purist and will enable F1 driving at Ascari Race Resort or with Ferrari Clienti. Those options are unfortunately not within my reach. I just try to envision my dream a bit in this way, of being one of the two dozen F1 drivers in competition. Most likely this dream will never fully come true due to lack of talent. And I guess my expiry date for this goal has expired considering my age ;-)
you noted at 5:44 you were a bit happy with the throttle. Have you found that to happen with the Formula 2? or was that unique to this car given the power behind it?
Hi Michael, the better the power to weight ratio is, the more chance this happens. But actually in single seaters I'm quite cautious (maybe too much) and gradual on the throttle to prevent this to happen. When I was 21 years old or so, I had my first single seater try in a Formula Opel-Lotus at circuit Zandvoort. After pit exit I spun the car at the corner exit of the first (Tarzan) corner, thinking I could just drive the car like a go kart. Since then I have a more cautious approach.
Do you know the difference between LRS and Formula Event? They seem to have everything exactly the same.
Could you choose which car you were driving, because I Think they have 3 for that category?
Did you book the Video Option or were you allowed to mount your own camera?
You obviously started with Cold tyres, did they say anything about the compound? Like is it a normal tyre or special for low temps?
Nice Video By the way:)
As far as I know:
LRS Formula is the racing stable itself. They only offer experiences for the cars, they have in their fleet. Native language is french.
Formula Event is an intermediary agency. They offer experiences at racing stables, they think are worthwhile. Native language is german.
While booking, in the comments you can give a preference for the car, you desire most. In the bronze category they have Benetton B198, Prost AP 04 and Williams FW21. However I guess the Williams FW21 (not to be confused with their Williams FW33) is not race ready. I asked for it, but didn't drive it.
I booked the Video Option AND mounted an own camera to my own helmet. You are allowed to use an own camera on your own racegear. I don't know, when you use theirs. I strongly advise to use an own camera (next to booking the video option), because the video files of LRS Formula fail more often (corrupt video file), than I like.
@@dreamitraceit Does it have to be a FIA helmet?
@@Bluebird209 A decent carsport helmet will do. My own helmet doesn't meet latest standards and is too old to use in competition, but can be used for experiences like this.
@@dreamitraceit I did it myself now and it was amazing, but I was experiencing a lot of stuttering from the engine. I recognized you were always in a pretty high gear. Did they tell you to do so? Because after my run I thought beeing in a high gear with low revs would be the right thing to counter that stuttering and I saw none from your drive. But I also noticed you could shift up quite early. When I drove they said: Minimum 4 green LEDs to shift up. And even then one time the gear jumped out, they said I shifted up to early (did the same as before, and the car wouldn't let you shift up too early even if I tried). You also did the V8 right?
@@Bluebird209 I'm very glad you granted yourself to have this experience. I really enjoyed your video and every single word you said in it is right. Thank you for sharing your videos, feelings and experience! Regarding the jolting of the car/engine; I know exactly, what you mean and experienced the same severely during my first attempt (that was in 2013 at AGS: ua-cam.com/video/Xomo-zQsts8/v-deo.html ). I cannot tell for sure, what the reason for it is. My guess is, it's a combination of low speed and low revs. I also drove the V8 and I don't know, why I could shift up early. In my opinion the car itself just doesn't function/behave exactly the same in every experience due to maintenance and different drivers and driving styles. Well, perhaps this could be a cause; I experienced much improvement in driveability after having changed from right foot braking to left foot braking. Maybe when changing right foot from brake pedal to throttle pedal it's too agressive for the sensitive by LRS Formula in home built traction control? They told me to shift up at minimum 3 green leds and at maximum the red led.
Sa coûte combien ?
Bonjour Philippe, merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé ma vidéo. Le prix dépend du nombre de tours et démarre sur ce circuit à partir de 2.350 €
How much ?
Starting at €1.615,- for the smaller Magny-Cours Club circuit but for Magny-Cours GP (where this video was made) at €2.375,- (price level end of 2020). You can look for current prizes and offers on the website of LRS Formula.
That price is not bad at all. Once in a lifetime experience. What was your top speed? My dream is to be able to say I've hit 300kh
I have not been able to hit 300km/h yet (except as a passenger in an airplane). Up to now I have been stuck at a top speed of 268km/h with these type of cars. But that was in my other video: ua-cam.com/video/pD7GFCrKsLg/v-deo.html
Every shit youtuber calls every racing car an f1 car
Hi McFrans, thank you for your straightforward opinion
What is if you crash the car even though you paid the insurance? It seems that you were pretty cautious and gentle on the gas? Is that maybe the thing that you haven't push it further? Just asking, no offense, and thank you for the video. Good job.
After payment of the insurance the own liability in case of an accident is €1.000,- for this car. That was not the reason, that I was so cautious. I did not feel enough in control to do better. I drove with left foot braking and only later I discovered, that I didn't fully release throttle on braking, which resulted in refusal of downshifting and me not feeling in control. That might have been the most important cause. Other reasons are the concrete wall very near at most of the track, and the awareness of having four children and a wife waiting for me to return home ;-)
For 2020 the own liability after payment of the insurance has been raised to € 2.000,- for this car in case of an accident/damage.
I think you drove incredibly well. I dont think people appreciate how quickly you are accelerating or the speeds you are hitting. You should be very proud.
Hi Michael, thank you very much for watching my video and for your positive comment :-)
And would you please explain more in detail, how everything went and if you were satisfied with the performance of the car, how tall are you, and if you have the training with the smaller carr beforehand at the same track etc...thank you
LRS Formula is a party, I can strongly recommend to do an experience like this. The car is great and the power is incredible, especially in 2nd and 3rd gear, where acceleration is at best. At top speed vision becomes a tunnel. Although the video shows I did not do a proper job; my perception during driving it was that every part of the driving (acceleration, up-shifting, braking, down-shifting, cornering) followed each other very quickle. To me it felt like having no time to think (much) about it and just try to act as best I felt secure with.
My height is 177 cm. Maximum height is stated in the general conditions of sale of LRS Formula. If I remember correctly 194 or 197 cm.
Every F1 experience of LRS Formula is preceeded by two 15 minutes sessions in a smaller Formula Renault at the same track on the same day. The lower power of the Formula Renault makes it much easier to control, but still 2nd gear has caused attendants to spin.
@@dreamitraceit Thank you for your answers and tips. I am planning to do that next year. Keep on uploading :)
Best tip if planning for next year is to check the website of LRS Formula between Christmas and New Year's Eve, because they have special offers in that period for next year. I will be planning then too, so maybe we'll meet on track :-)
