Dutch said that once they were together, they got over like gold. I think Duth was giving them alot of credit. And i don't think Dutch was jealous. He'll be the first to tell you he was a midcarder. And without the midcarders you don't have top guys, you just have guys.
Thank you for commenting
@@montethepharaohli1prowrestlingDutch was a big star in Memphis & a couple other smaller territories but in the major territories he was definitely a mid carder
@@chrisruth7057 agreed
Dutch has admitted on several occasions that he was a mid carder. He has never claimed to being a main eventer. So absolutely agreed.
@@billypotter9240 Territories like Memphis Northeastern + couple other territories with less talent especially All Star Vancouver wrestling which was the weakest territory by far for talent at least in the late 70s to mid 80s but I don't think Dutch went to Vancouver
I’m a 66 year old Sarasota native and I started watching NWA Florida in the sixties with my grandparents. Steve K was a superstar that was loved and respected in Florida. Got to see him in top of the card matches at Roberts Arena in Sarasota
Nice
Stan and steve never got over by themselves That's real and Dutch himself has said many times hes was a bottom of the card carpenter collecting a paycheck
Good comment
Steve was definitely popular as a singles wrestler in Florida. Not a top guy but over.

He actually had main event runs with Lawler and Dundee when Memphis was hot , so he did have a run.

These guys were on 🔥 in Memphis. They were before r-n-r express, the fantastics, and the midnight exp and made smaller tag specialists viable eventually leading to the midnight rockers and the othrr high flying tag teams. They deserve more credit for their innovation. That being said, Stan was incredibly lucky to get to wrestle with Beautiful Bobby on the midnights, it will be what gets him into the hall of fame and will be what he's most known for (well, besides being Boebert's dad).
Agreed
I don't think Dutch was trying to 6:27 knock either of the Fabs. Dutch has never said he was the greatest wrestler. I agree with Steve Kern. It's a work and everybody has a different opinion. I respect all three of you.
Good comment
I like their answers. I think Dutch meant it to be a compliment on how well they gelled as a team. In any case, i think Stan could have been a big singles star, perhaps if he had stayed in the business longer. He was great on the mic and had a good super kick. I could see him thriving in the spot that Shawn Michaels ended up in
Good comment
So fun to see somebody finally say this besides me.
I always had fantasy booker dreams of Stan as 'The Gangster of Love' Stan Lane with a manager and maybe part of faction as the leader - with maybe JJ, maybe Gary Hart, maybe even still w Corny - working top of card singles in WCW.
I'd love to have seen it attempted (just to take look-see).
I have same exact take about Bobby Eaton.
I feel either MNX *could have been* singles stars (with the right booking, opponents, surroundings).
Dutch was a main-eventer in Memphis for a couple of years. I don't know if he'd have been more than a mid-carder anywhere else, but he was over in Memphis pretty big.
Good Comment
Hey, thank you for interviewing these guys. They're one of the most iconic tag teams in wrestling history and are often overlooked by historians and fans.
Thank you for the support
I went and watched Dutch's video. He says they couldn't draw as individuals in Memphis. Seems like Steve and Stan agree with that. You should have played them the clip or read them exactly what he said.
They heard the clip
They understood what was said
But love the comment thank you
You are correct

We asked the question they answered. They did not bring up Dutch on their own
Dutch certainly does very well on his podcast. Certainly better at than expected. Seems to be better at this than wrestling in some twisted way
Some times Dutch mantel is misinformed like some other legends. And repeat what other people said too. Different pro wrestlers have different opinions about other wrestlers. Dutch like all wrestlers don't know everything. They get their information from other misinformed . people . At times.
Good Comment
Well Dutch is right because neither Steve or Stan were over in the Memphis territory before they became The Fabulous Ones. I like both guys but Dutch was right here.
Appreciate your feedback
Yah, Dutch was probably just referring to what he saw in Memphis. This interview is just a work, trying to get over on Dutch's popularity. Dutch is 75 with health problems, and he is still more relevant, unlike these guys. Stan is a class act, but it is telling that Steve mocked Dutch and Cornette - probably the two most successful wrasslin podcasters - both of whom were also successful bookers, who understood the game at multiple levels.
@@djdonald243 do you think thise guys did not see mantels or cornettes interviews about them. They certainly did
It is not a work
Dutch hss found his spot in podcasting more than pro wrestling
Oh, Hi Mark@@montethepharaohli1prowrestling

Stan didn't say anything bad about Cornette. Cornette was good to him. Don't know why Keirn put him down.

Steve has a big mouth and a high opinion of himself. I like Steve too, but he talks before he thinks.
I dont think Dutch was taking a shot at them. He was just stating how the Fabs took off when the 2 of them got together. The Fabs were pure fire.
Thank you
Stan Lanes audio is ridiculous. And Steve Keirn was Skinner in wwf. To think he was gonna replace a former wwf champion who held the belt for 2138 days is fucking stupid.

Steve got set straight by the road warriors..😂😂
ahhhh
Dutch was right about what he said. He wasn't being disrespectful, be was just stating a fact. At best in singles they were no better than mid card status, but together they were superstars. There were many tag teams who weren't great at singles, but together they were awesome. Dutch even said himself that he was no better than a mid carder himself.

I am surprised that Steve went after Cornette a little with Stan right there.
Why? Can you give more detail
@@montethepharaohli1prowrestling It is just that Stan and Cornette (as far as I know) are close.

Dutch was a midcarder who had a name, kept it going, and could get a WWE audience to chant along "we the people" as a borderline racist in the 2010's... Meanwhile I've never seen or heard of these people outside of their tag team all those decades ago, its called "relevance"
They were pretty big names
You have heard of the Midnight express correct?
Yeah but def not the original midnight express. And only 1 of them was part of that team . But its all good . All of them made or make a living doing what they wanted . Envy them for chasing and achieving they're dream of being a pro wrestler 😊🎉🎉🎉

I've heard or read that Eddie Graham wanted to send Steve Keirn to New York when McMahon, Sr called Graham looking for his next WWWF champion after Superstar Graham. But McMahon liked Bob Backlund instead and Backlund went on to New York. Keirn and Backlund were tag partners at the time. Any truth to that ?

I doubt there is any truth to the 'Kiern over Backlund' rumor. I've never heard it from anyone other than Sullivan, who like many wrestlers from the territory\kayfabe days, is known to stretch the truth from time to time. And Backlund was chosen to be champion while Bruno was still champ.
Good comment you know your stuff
ive heard it somewhere else , but cant remember where ...but Graham said Vince gave him the day hed win the belt and lose the belt before he got it , so he def knew it was Backland before Bruno dropped it id guess , because hed already brought Backland in to start building him in New York

I don't think the intent was to be salacious but the wording of the question did seem to put both guys off even though they both admitted that they couldn't find their footing in Memphis as solos, a thing literally everyone says.
That's the funny thing about the territories: someone could be a hot main eventer in one spot and not get any traction in a territory one state over.

Dutch was the same level as them as single in Memphis Dutch was one of Jerry the king main guys and I was never a fan you could tell he never hit the gym but the Fabs were good but think you had road warriors , free birds , von erichs so they still made with all those great tag teams .

is it any knock on a person if it took them 4 years to get over in the wrestling business back then? seems to me to pretty standard at that time for it to take several years if not more for most wrestlers to get over. heck it took hogan to even become a regular worker and about 5 years to become a star
not sure if dutch was just stating a fact or trying to suggest something about their quality as performers since keirn (who was way over in florida before the Fabs) and Stan who was relatively new to the business
