Had a Ford highboy with a 70 rear and a 44hd frt, with the heavy power brk PKG , once I got it working correctly it was the best stopping vehicle I have ever owned to this day, and that's with two face cord on it and a trailer . The harder you push the better it stopped !!! I'm normally a Ford guy , but I would definitely make an exception for one of these fine rides !
64 polara 500 is probably the highest quality car dodge ever made. They were made on the 9th day by GOD and set aside till 1962 I think and man began building it in gods image for mid1963 to be put on lots everywhere
Beautiful. Makes me miss mine. I had a '64 Polara 500, same color. 426 wedge, single 4bbl with 4 spd and bucket seats. I only had it 2 years, sold it to go back to school in '72...
If my memory serves me right those cars had left hand threads on left side wheel studs. Right side had right hand threads. Absolutely beautiful ride. Very nice indeed 🇺🇸
Yes they did for the cars & trucks up until the early to mid 70s . I was brought up on Mopar's from my father & friends who were buying & driving working on them so I got to know them pretty good . I worked at a bone yard called Whitey's auto parts in MN years ago & we had a guy coming in buying parts for his Dart he had & he thought he knew the Chrysler cars better then anyone until the day he came in to buy a tire from us & had it jacked up ready to pull the tire off using our impact & air up by the shop door & started to bust the lug nuts off & I told him you do know that one side is standard right hand thread & the other is left hand thread right & he turned red & admitted he didn't know this lol.
Pete Loomis ~That little piece of information led to a lot of guys breaking out the torch. Lol. The end of the stud is actually marked with an “L” on the end of the factory studs. Some aftermarket did some didn’t. ✌🏼🇺🇸
Somethings hinky about this. Polara's are the heaviest body style 3,700-3,800 lbs. All 1964 Stage III Ramchargers were 12-1 compression ratio and rated at 425 hp. The 11.5 and 13 to 1 engines were 1963 Stage II's. I raced a 1963 Dodge 440 (Body Style) factory race car 3.180 lbs. With ported and polished heads, an Isky 505C cam and Doug Thorley headers etc. My Stage II wedge would compete with Hemi cars. Best time 11.41 on 7" wide M&H Racemasters.
Chuck Haynes - I ordered a Brand new 64 Polara 500 with 426 Wedge (Single 4 barrel) and the 4 speed trans. My question, did the Polara ( base) come with 6 taillights or were those only in the “500’s”?..
What a sweet ride I sometimes still miss my 68 Dodge Polara it only had the 383 V8 but it was still a tank of a car and the toughest I ever owned. Mopar sure knew how to build back then it's a shame what they have become today. I still drive a 2nd generation Dodge Dakota 03 4x4 crew cab. Probably one of the last decent mid size trucks built.
@@erickort1987 no. I am 62. At 15 my first car was a 65 ss Implala. At 18 I bought a 1969 cougar Eliminator . In the garage we have a 67 and 69 stang. And I have a 68 f -100 my dad bought when I was ten. My wife drives a newer Mercedes. If you don't believe, you can look up my profile on facebook.
I really don't see how these dual quad maxies were only rated at low 400 hp, you'd think they'd be more along the low 500 hp mark. But still the 64 is just awesome
IN THE EARLY 60,S WHEN THESE MOPARS CAME OUT WITH THE HEAVY DUTY 727 TORQUEFLITE 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC YOU NO LONGER NEEDED THE STANDARD 4 SPEED TO WIN AT THE DRAGS !....////
I LOVE IT!!!! I would love to build a 426 Max Wedge motor in the future. Is that possible today ? Are all the parts avaable today ? This motor has such a rich racing heritage. Thanks for sharing.
So, "The only one left{ is not true). A lot of people make claims on how many "are left" No one knows that for sure so stop making claims. its silly .Just because you don't know of others, does not mean "one is left' and I don't report to Galen Govier, the self proclaimed Mopar genius.
I had the four door '64 300 the same color, with the radio delete, push button torqueflyte, and a slant six. I built the slant six to hyperpack specs and could kill 5.0 Mustangs and other hot cars with ease. Paramount has it now.
walter neville - Excellent, I had a brand new 64 Polara 500 when I was in High School with the Base 426 Wedge ( Not Max) & 4 sp. Did the “ Non 500”models also have 6 tail lights or only the 500s???
I think this is the most beautiful car Chrysler ever made it’s my number one pick and I love all mopar but this one is beautiful max wedge cars are awesome from 62 to 65 these were my favourite cars nice ride not nice beautiful this polara is like the cream of the crop I like every car in this body style from 62 to 65 this was the best but I’d take any dodge or Plymouth of these years I love watching Ronnie Sox take off in his 65 Belvedere I believe it was but these are the first muscle cars ever in my opinion Chrysler dominated the drag strips s and stock car racing so yes I love this body stlye the best ever they have made nothing that compares to these cars to this day you can have your hellcat I’ll take a real car like this anyday over one of them
Why would they be thinking about fuel economy in 1964 when gas was around 25 cents a gallon? No one even said the words miles per gallon till the later '70's. It just wasn't relevant.
It's got the right factory headers and the brake line is lifted like it should be... is there a sticker in the glovebox? Front drums? We never saw the exhaust.
Polara were the top of the line for dodge and as far as I know was never made into Max Wedge cars they were the 500's all of the real max wedge cars were built on the 330 line the bottom of the Dodge line and so were the Super Stock Dodge cars with the 426 Hemi's
If it was a 4 speed , it would be even rarer because 64 was the only and first year that the 833 came out for the max wedge cars, but you are misleading people there were many more than 5 made this year even though it (the max wedge cars) were coming to an end as the hemi had been introduced and was all the rage now.
Kid in high school had one of those motors in Meridian Idaho course those kids all had hot cars I graduated in 76 what size and type carburetors were those Carter therma quads????
Is it me or is the side melding wrong? Seems like the texture/pattern inside is missing and the Polara emblem on it is not shiny chrome like. Mine is all original and it is so different.
I'm surprised they made a Polara into a Max Wedge car because the Max Wedge cars were built for racing not for looking good and the Polara had lots of trim and other things that made the car look good and that stuff is all weight and and weight is no good if you want to go fast in racing that is why Dodge built them in the 330 bottom level trim level that did not come with the chrome and stuff the Polara came with. It must of been a special order car or something because all the true Max Wedge cars came in the 330 level cars
another rare one if can find 1970 ramcharger 440 full roll cage from.factory 200 made for US border patrol theres one sitting in a back lot of a german auto dealership in orange county calif
Drum brakes, even on a high horsepower muscle car, was common during this period. "Let's go fast and hopefully it will come to a stop!"

No power brakes or steering in a high horsepower car is a scary thought.

lmao!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Built like a battleship. The best car I ever owned. Period.
I agree. ‘64 was Dodge’s Golden Anniversary and the cars seemed to have been made with a little more pride.
Drum brakes and a single master cylinder, amazing it’s still in such good condition. Incredible car.
Dude ya killed it with the Torque Thrust D’s that sealed the deal for me

Never seen the two air filters side by side, awesome. The body work is just incredible
Thats one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.... God I'm proud to be an American...
Beautiful Only us old guys and gals appreciate an old clean Max Wedge
If my memory serves me right those cars had left hand threads on left side wheel studs. Right side had right hand threads.

What an absolute machine fantastic...... How in the name of anything, ever, could you thumbs down this car ? ? ?
Stunning! What a beautiful ride! So happy it survived.
The only complaint would be that That Magnificent Dodge is not in my garage.
Beautiful and Amazing.

Wsy more than 400 hp!
Look up the one uncle tony found ..it's not original motor but vin is there
Saw that. Could be 2 of three.
i realy dig the american racing mags...and the engine.
Yah, but the car is ugly.

If my memory is correct, when the original owner had the car, it had a Coleman Bros built engine but it was NOT the 415hp version

WOW! Wet dreams do come true!
Old moats of this era were fast but uuuggggllllyyy...give them just a few years and they were sublime.

There were two Ramcharger 426 for 1964 , one was 11 to 1 the other being 12.5 to 1
I had the four door '64 300 the same color, with the radio delete, push button torqueflyte, and a slant six. I built the slant six to hyperpack specs and could kill 5.0 Mustangs and other hot cars with ease. Paramount has it now.
you shut your damn mouth matt cuddy
Sorry, not the only one left, I have one, dark blue 4spd, and its a Polara 500. I have the complete history too.

Hard to imagine such brutal barbaric horsepower being put through an automatic transmission……..
He must have got it from a little old lady from Pasadena.
Twin Carburetors? Naturally Fuel economy? Out of the question

yep, saw the front drums...
That monster definitely pushes more than 425 hp.
Can you imagine a old man next door to me had one he would start it every sunday to go to church that was two streets away

Gas monkey garage would trash it out and put in a 318 with a 4 barrel and get half a million for it cause they spent $250,000 on it
Good music
Nice vid
Thanks for your compliments!
I'm trying not to slobber right now really hard fucking car is amazing
4:26 in length. Nice.

They are Carter's but not the Thermo Quads because those hadn't come out yet so it's probably the AVS Carter & they should be 500 or 600 CFM's. each .
First car i ever drove but with the 318.
Makes my heart beat faster.

Yah, molding is wrong.
Awesome
Sweet Car.
Not all that impressed with the car, but I love that engine.
WTF 🤷♂️
Top Speed?
425 HP? LOL Gotta be more than that. WAY more. What's the torque rating?
415hp / 485ft. lbs of torque (stock cast iron exhaust)
Horse power cool very good speetd livin
Only thing missing is the Hemi Head's an bigger pistons

I would think it would have the 4 bolt valve covers on it.
Backyard-Built-Trucks I thought so too
The meaning of life.
Wasn't the "Polara" a metal emblem not a sticky?
Brad Coffman Definitely “Yes”
Gave the car a terrible nickname, I would've went with something like the Exocist.
Original owner was a Mortician, hence Rigor Mortice
I think it needs discs up front.
64 dodge ugly as hell but motors are bad as hell.
You are stupid.
Music so annoying. Not interested anymore.
I use UA-cam approved music from the UA-cam Music Library. Music is very subjective. Sorry you don't like the music.
Dodge sucks...
.underrated because of the impala I had a 4 door and people would see my tail lights
