Absolutely. When I've been shooting digital for a while and then do a roll of film, I'm always reminded like, oh yeah, that's what film looks like. The real film look gets diluted in your brain as you shoot digital, until you get your roll of film back. You can get the film color curves on digital, but no one has cracked how film blends colors and how the high lights get treated by chemicals. I shoot A7S III video and X100V stills. My latest films were rolls of Cinestill 800T on a Canon EOS-3 and a Fuji Natura S pocket camera.
For my money, and I don't have much in general, nah, film simulation is enough. Sure, film may look better in direct comparison, but Fujifilm recipes come as close as you can get SOOC-even closer if you tweak the recipes with Fuji X Weekly or whatever. I'm not a professional, so I want to spend as little time as possible editing the photos, and Fujifilm digital cameras and their film recipes are a godsend to me.
Hasselblad 500 is my absolute favorite camera. But these images where a bit to red on her skin tones and the Fuji was a bit to cold. Just to say something haha, of course both are great ❤
The film photos looked a bit more magenta than the F. The F looked cooler than Portra than I’m used to. I lean towards Reggie’s Portra over the Fuji XWeekly F Portra
@@StefanoLombardoYTthere’s one by reggiebphotography if you google it, it’s kind of a versatile portra, using auto dynamic range and auto WB to create that versatility.
Do you think you need a film camera to get the film look?

Definitely will make more of these!
The film gods is with the film photographer haha. Every time you shoot, the sun goes away.
A diffusion filter will get you a lot closer to the soft film look when using digital.

great video, great images... somebody get the video guy a gimbal cus I just threw up with the motion sickness.
I like film for the feel and change in shooting experience, but if that feels like a hassle, the film simulations are awesome to get that look

I noticed the same thing. I never heard of it this Portra recipe, I need to try it! Can you link it?
it's on fujixweekly. If you google "Reggie's Portra", it's the first link. Reggie is a youtuber, too@@StefanoLombardoYT

Film beats digital...but how many of us can afford a Hasselblad???
film is better
To get closer to the film dynamic range shoot with dr400 or either drp low or high. Otherwise the blown highlights are a big difference. 🫡
