During "The Great Texas Freeze of 2021", I did do some of the things you covered. One thing I also did was closed my slide to reduce the amount of heat loss. I know not everybody can do that and still move around or get to the necessary areas in the camper. Great job, Todd.
Weird thought. Could or would you put a heat tape and insulating blanket on the propane tanks to keep them warm? I noticed a few days ago our furnace was struggling as well as our oven when the outside temperature was about 7° Fahrenheit. We just have the cheap plastic cover over our propane tanks but now I'm thinking maybe getting an insulating blanket like what you put on a water heater to put over them but thought the heat tape might be a nice addition.
Great video. Follow-up question for the motorhome, do you wrap or shield the onboard tank on the RV? If so suggestions. We have a Tiffin Class A and the location makes it difficult to attempt with the compartment open on the bottom and one side. The position of the regulator just inches above the bottom of the RV with a strong cross breeze did not help our situation here in TX Freeze-ageddon 2021. :-)
3 More Tips for Northerners.....1)Started Rv Engine and allow to warm-up.......2) Load-up wife, kids and Dog(or whom ever is ready first)........3) Drive South.
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy ya -17c cold but try the 4 weeks of -20c as the high water tank will not last that long had to insulate water line as they are good to -27c
Curious, is tank freeze up a problem from suppliers in the south? because I use my Gas Grill all winter in Wisconsin, I have grilled in sub zero temps on a DOT tank with no issues, several homes we have owned as well as a few of our rental properties are served by 500 Gallon Propane tanks above grade on the property not protected from the elements at all and have no problem running the homes furnace even those multiple week periods when the temps dont get above zero and we get 50 below at night. As a Licensed HVAC Contractor in Wisconsin, I have run temp Heat with both Forced air furnaces and torpedo heaters on 20 lb DOT tanks at temps down to -35 F, with zero issues, Please help me understand this freeze up you are talking about.
there is a copious amount of propane vaporization chart based on temps. as HVAC you should also be familiar with Boyles law (Boyles Law: P1V1 = P2V2) which describes the volume of gas (pressure) in relation to temperature. the colder it is the less BTUs.
This video just solidified my decision, Head South Great tips for the brave

That also reduces the cubic feet of air you have to heat and makes your rig slippery to the wind.
My personal cold weather camping tip, winterize your unit and put it away til spring!! That weather sucks 😂

Wrapping the tank would help, even if you were only able to get it around the exposed sides.
