You may have very well saved my life. I can't really sew but I love fabric and have so much stash. I just have this need to do something with my fabric and my hands. I do counted cross stitch but YOUR ideas have lifted me from a dark place today. I didn't realize you were in FL. Moved from there 2 years ago after 43 years. Thank you for sharing. You never know when your ideas can mean so much to another person.
You are so welcome! Counted cross stitch is a beautiful art that requires such precision! Slow Stitching can use that precision or (thankfully, in my case) can be more rustic. The choices are endless. I, too, find that it's a great way to use my fabric stash. I love the feel of hand sewing fabric, choosing the patterns and colors, and just playing with it. Enjoy your new found hobby! I have found the process of doing artwork to be very rewarding, particularly through challenging times. Thank you for your kind words and reaching out.
I have been wanting to do a few book marks and just couldn’t figure out how to organize the colors & patterns. Thanks so much for giving such wonderful tutorial directions.
How fun! Great idea for the granddaughter's memory books. I love using fabric from their clothes when they out grow them. Since one loves blue and the other pink this is a perfect idea. I love any hue of blue but turquoise is my "happy" color.☺
Love these! I am going to follow this example and make colour blocks like you have. Simple design with simple stitching, but I really love the look. Your tutorials are terrific. Could you show us how to put the together in a fabric book when you do that part? Thanks for the instructions-I can’t wait to begin-I might have to go to the fabric store for more colours!! Oh boy!
@@DanielaMellen Just trying this and really enjoying it! Your tip with the phone camera is excellent. I loved playing around with fabrics until it looked right. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos…they give me some much needed inspiration. Thanks again.
Hi Daniella! I love this project! I have a question: what would you suggest to substitute for the old quilt backing? Also, I was wondering if, instead of pins, we could use a temporary adhesive i.e. Pixie spray? TFS!
Hi Gail, I use the quilt backing for support - and I like the feel of stitching through the layers. In place of the old quilt backing, you can use a layer of fabric that you like to sew through (wool felt or flannel) even a piece of cotton would work. I like the weight of the quilt - so, maybe a heavier weight fabric. As for the temporary adhesive, I have only used glue sticks - which can defintely be used - but sparingly. I don't like the feel of stitching through the glue, in this case. I don't know how Pixie spray or adhesive sprays feel to stitch through - if they offer resistance or make the needle gummy. Another option is to use fusible adhesive to tack down the fabrics before sewing. Are you like me and get poked with the pins? :)
I love how you explain and give so many tips. This is my level of slow stitching.
Glad it was helpful!
