Songwriting, = the Legendary Prince Rogers Nelson; rap = celebrated hip-hop pioneer Melle Mel, harmonica = the peerless Stevie Wonder, dancers = an assortment of breakdancing icons, singer= the GREAT Chaka Khan. Magical cover.

Fun fact, this song was originally recorded on Prince’s first album. He wrote the song, and years later Chaka recorded her own version which Prince won a Grammy at the 1985 Grammys for his writing on the project and Chaka won a Grammy for best female vocal performance that year as well

Just to keep the facts straight, it was on Prince's second album 😁. "For You" was his first album in 1978. This track was on the self-titled "Prince" album in 1979.

And I'm also pretty sure Stevie is on the harmonica, very distinctive. Cause they sample his fingertips, part, say, yeah, that's from his fingerTips number 1# hit from I think 63 When stevie was only 13 years old

This is a cover of a Prince song. It's her biggest hit, but not her best song by far! The harmonica is by Stevie Wonder. The rap is by Mel Melle of Grandmaster Flash.

I do believe this was the first r&b/hip hop collaboration. Chaka on vocals, Stevie Wonder on harmonica, Grandmaster Melle Mel did the rap. Written by Prince and produced by Arif Mardin in 1984. That was the same year Tina Turner’s Private Dancer was released. Tina pretty much swept the Grammys in all the categories she was nominated in, except Best R&B Female and Best R&B Song, which went to Chaka and I Feel For You.

Aside from Stevie being on harmonica, She also sampled his first/earliest hit "Fingertips" during the breakdown.

Chaka is THEE GOAT..! Musically and visually she changed the game and influenced almost every singer that came after her. This song was one of her biggest and most successful. By this point in her career, she had been the most consistent and successful black female urban singer. According to billboard, during the span of ten years ( 1974-1984) she sold the most records and was consistently placing songs at the top of the charts. THis song is considered to be the first to marry R&B and rap…it went number 1 on r&b and dance and #3 pop… and won 2 Grammys in 1985.
