I am a recent owner of a Boucher HG 56. The best sounding guitar I have owned including higher end Martins and Taylors. We are lucky to have such a superb luthier in Canada.

@@dietersdawgs I was listening to Erwin van lighten play an hg54 and was mesmerized by the sound. I wondered is the mikes were making a different or was the guitar that good. If it’s the guitar I’m going to have to own one

@@sweetwilliam49 Well I have one and yeah they're that good. Thing is with such a good instrument it makes you a better player because it rewards you for good playing and punishes you for bad lol! A good mic still only picks up the sound that the guitar makes. I also have a Breedlove, vintage Norman, Larrivee and a few others but the Boucher is in a class of it's own.

@@sweetwilliam49 you may not know this but Boucher used to supply Martin, Gibson, Taylor, Bourgeois,Collings, Cort, and everyone else with their Adirondack tops. He has the best supply and highest quality in the world. He used to sell 30,000 tops a year, it's what kept them afloat. He stopped doing it now, and of course has always kept the best tops for himself. Kinda funny that all those owners who rave about their American adi tops have "seconds" picked out by Robin Boucher. I think the American makers are now getting their tops from the U.S., but in the U.S the trees are younger and grow closer to sea level so the wood is wider grained. not as stiff, and not as old. The U.S. cut down most of the adi for world war 2 and the stuff they replanted is only between 40 and 60 years old.

I bought a SG-41 mahogany Boucher a month ago and I can't put it down. Much better than my 35 year old Martin D28. Each note is clear as a bell and they all combine together to produce harmony at it's finest. I can all most see the music, it's so pure and clean. The best guitar I've ever owned and the last! Thank you Robin Boucher, you have made one of the best guitars on this planet.
    Thank you Roger!!

Both sound phenomenal, with the 46 getting my vote! Nice playing as well. Best from Germany

Boucher’s are incredible guitars! Comfortable to play, amazing tone and sounding bigger than their size.

Great demonstration! In fact this may be the most clear recording that I've heard where the back and side tonewoods really are distinguishable .
Both sound amazing! To my ears, listening with headphones, the Rosewood has more balance and overall clarity. So if I had to choose I would definitely take that one but ideally would want them both!!
I have a Furch Yellow Master's Choice Gc-CR which has Western Red Cedar/ EI Rosewood so I guess that my ears, for my playing/writing style, favors Rosewood. But I have some less high end guitars with Mahogany back and side and having both definitely offers one a different tonal palette.

HG 56 wins it for me. I think the rosewood has a deeper sound and a bell like high end. The mahogany sounds great too, but I would choose the rosewood!

Always been a mahogany guy. For my voice and to sing along - mahogany for those mids and trebles. Also works for pure fingerstyle.

Go buy both guitars and use the pick that you like. Problem solved.
