Yeah, you have to be careful with those IBC's if you want to grow in them. Even those listed as "food grade" while HDPE is a food grade plastic you need to know exactly what was in them.
I was lucky enough to get a couple from a food manufacturing company in the past.
Sadly we moved and they stayed at the old place. I'm just using timber-based beds like yours and trying to grow in the ground (dead clay soil, adding lots of organics) Cheers!

Yea definitely. Its sad that some people can be deceiving just so they can get rid of the IBC's. The food grade ones are hard to come by. We recently grew sweet potato in IBCs and they they grew amazingly. However, after we harvested them, we decided not to eat the sweet potatoes and to get rid of the IBCs. We just didn't want to risk it. It's a shame you had to leave yours at your old property. We have been slowly amending our soil here too. Buying in soil is expensive!

I agree getting rid of the IBC’s when you don’t know what the contents where, I took home from work 6 IBC bulkies that had citric acid in them used for water treatment unfortunately the company stopped us from taking stuff home, been looking for food grade ibc’s but when you ask the seller can they prove they are, don’t hear from them, buying them new way to expensive

Yea it is just too risky using them when you don't know what was stored in them. Especially if it was carcinogenic materials, you definitely don't want that anywhere near your food. I hope you manage to find some cheaper food grade IBC's. They definitely seem harder to come by. Last I checked buying a food grade IBC, it was around $150 in my area. 😳😳😬😬 Way too expensive for my liking.

I have been buying old bath tubs to grow vegetables in. My opinion they are longer lasting and way better.

Bath tubs are a fantastic idea. ❤️ We actually have a couple of old ones lying around that I can use. They will definitely last a long time! 😊 🌱🌻

They are also quite cheap at tip shops too.

That's a great place to look. I love the tip shop near us. So many bargains. It's amazing what people throw out.

They are also known as shuttles. They are big plastic tubs with a metal cage around them. They are used for transporting and storing chemicals, poisons, food materials, or water. A lot of the time, farmers use them to store chemicals or poisons.
