the only reason why there is an large hat issues is that the guy who made it an issue large hat isnt as large or as entertating as simpsons large hat and he refuse to add in that simspons large hat was one of the better writen and had a better background as a large hat then most of the cast of the show.... we need our large hats!

Very bold of you to even mention the large hats debacle. You gotta watch out for the fans of old-time bikes, they single handedly got them kicked off of the show.
I like that Apu got a surprisingly large amount of character development and depth for a background character. I always found him really likeable in how he seems like a lovely polite person but will absolutely not take shit from anyone. He’s hardworking, kind and intelligent and just a lovely guy all around.
Not forgetting formerly the most eligible bachelor in Springfield

not going to lie i barley remember much apu about nothing and i have it on dvd seen it 4-5 times and 2 times with commentary over the dozen years have had it on dvd....homer & apu is so memorable...i will say its better for that...
I notice that Season 5 shows up pretty often in this Simpsons Showdown series. Dunno what it is about it... It seems to be the go-to season if you want a comparison. Could totally see stuff like Homer the Vigilante, Marge on the Lam, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, and Sweet Skinner's Baadassssss Song being good candidates for one of these too.

I think about Much Apu About Nothing so much, that I thought it WAS Homer and Apu. Like I had completely forgotten the story of the actual episode.
With that being said, it’s too problematic for my taste. Way too many big hats. Can’t believe the stuff they used to get away with.

Apu flying around like a hummingbird on the security camera makes me laugh every time I see it. That and his performance of “Sgt. Pepper” are my two favorite Apu moments.
I'd have to go with Much Apu About Nothing because that one doesn't lie to us through song. I hate it when episodes do that! Also, that "Native Americans" joke at the end is so stupid and smart and I love it.
I always thought it was cool that 'much apu about nothing' mentioned that Apu was arranged to be married to a girl named Manjula, and then 2 seasons later the wedding actually happened.
I was going to say that I will miss Apu in the show, but is not like I'm going to see the new seoson anyway

Jacobo Pelaez I like to think of the Simpsons as a late 80s - early 2000s phenomenon.
I did like the last major Apu episode "Much Apu about Something", which is kinda fitting given the circumstances.
I honestly don’t care too much about his character anymore. He became unlikable when he had kids. Plus I don’t watch the new episodes and if I do they’re on in the background. Still dumb to no longer have the character on the show.
It's always a great time when a new Simpsons Showdown arrives.
Much Apu About Nothing is hilarious. “Let the bears pay the bear tax, I pay the Homer tax” is one of my favorite Homer lines of all time. It’s the stronger episode all around and one of season 7’s best IMO

Apparently, there will be another voice actor assigned to do Apu. That’s the last I heard at least. It’s sad Hank Azaria ended voicing Apu because of a vocal minority of people. I mean, nobody complains about the other stereotypes The Simpson’s has parodied over the years, but Apu being voiced by a white guy and the character running a convenience store for 30 years is an outrage and needs a new voice actor.

My favorite Apu episode is Much Apu About Nothing. It's NOT just because Orville Simpson is shown in the B-plot, but the thought that Apu would be deported made me feel sad for him. It was a really emotional episode.
One small but big mystery in the Simpsons for me is when homer had heart issues, they couldn't afford the operation but never asked homers brother herb (he was rich again by this point)
I wish Herb appeared in more episodes. Last we heard from him was that he was broke again
I love Much Apu About Nothing. The political commentary is bang on, and it manages to get us invested in the stakes, but it doesn't feel like a drag or that it's taking itself too seriously (see: Mayor Quimby with the pic-uh-nic basket)

Much Apu About Nothing is one of my favourite ever starts to an episode- "I pay the Homer tax"- "we're here, we're queer"! Simpsons never did politics much, but I thought this satire was spot on. I often think of "Are they getting louder or dumber?" "Dumber, sir".

I like both. What would win? I think Jessica's probably the more interested love interest because Laura is basically Bart's perfect girl , just he's not old enough for her, while Jessica's really evil. But I think New Kid On The Block has a better flavour, sort of.

Much Apu About Nothing is objectively the better episode because of that Civil War joke. "just say slavery" gets me every time.
I would argue that much of what helps make Much Apu About Nothing is aided by Homer And Apu. The connections made with that earlier episode strengthened the later episode.
I've always wondered why they didn't use Snake for the last act of Homer and Apu, why did they used this red-haired nobody?

Suprising call! In my book, Homer and Apu is in top10 funniest Simpsons episodes so I would definotely choose that one, but once again, you presented your case in such a way that I cannot argue with it.

Didn't expect to encounter a savage NY Mets burn in this video.
You should totally do an extra seconds review of behind the laughter, it's such an off beat and out of universe episode, although I've never really liked the ending with Willie Nelson and the awareness awards, that always seemed a bit contrived. It also solves the mystery of where Springfield is because they're a northern Kentucky family.
I totally appreciate the remix of the Yearnings of the Wind (600 AD) Theme from Chrono Trigger!! You nailed it with that one, TheRealJims!!

I wonder why OCREMIX music isn't more common among UA-camrs. They tend to sound cool, fitting, and low key enough not to be distracting. I like realizing there's a recognizable melody in there, then determining that it must be a remix of Gemini Man's stage or something and appreciating how much the song has been transformed.
Seeing these two episodes, it didn't matter to me which one was better, all it confirms that they shouldn't have retire Apu's character.
Every single time i watch these i go stream like 10 episodes of the Simpsons and spend like half my day doing nothing except enjoying some classic simpsons

Before watching my choice was Homer and Apu but you made such a good case for why Much Apu about nothing is the better episode I changed my mind.

I do often find myself disagreeing with your verdict on these, I think it's mainly because I prioritize how quotable and funny the episode is as opposed to the story or the "feels" moments. I still love watching you do them though!
Still waiting for Bart the Murder vs Boy Who Knew Too Much! Or either of those vs Bart Gets Hit by a Car! All involve Bart in the courtroom, just the first two are a little more Bart-centric, plus they also heavily involve Skinner.

Homer and Apu has always been one of my favorite episodes. I absolutely love act one, I love the music number in the middle, and call it a time waster if you must, but the scene in India gets me every single time. This makes me Sick-E-Mart.

Glad to see this series return. I definitely prefer Much Apu About Nothing, much more memorable episode
Homer and Apu has some great moments, set pieces, dynamic between the characters, but Much Apu is the more consistent story, better characterisation of Apu, gives him more back story, conflict and revolves around a more interesting topic.
Also the bear sequence is amazing, especially the part Moes truck drags Barney away

I agree. "Much Apu About Nothing" wins for being more thoughtful. Both episodes are elite levels of funny, but Much Apu has real bite and substance while Homer & Apu is more about being zany.
The Apu controversy is completely dumb to me. Apu is one of my favorite characters ever and I love both of these episodes. Much Apu About Nothing has a fantastic dramatic story but I will always value the other episode too! Apu deserves to be brought back. I’d even accept a different voice actor if it will just keep people from going nuts. However Apu is an essential part of the series to me, and not having him is just messed up!

In removing Apu, they are trying to erase one of the best success stories on tv. Apu is literally the most successful man in Springfield, with the exception of Mr Burns.
Apu, Willy and Burns are certainly my favorites outside the family.

I think James Woods it's kind of a distractive influence in "Homer and Apu", when he leaves it's through a non-sequitur that creates more questions than answers and then they cut to "let's hug Apu!" (and literally point how they are padding out the runtime at this point)
"There's still time. Let's hug him again!" What makes it funnier is that Homer brought up the runtime at the end of the second act.
I'm with you. Homer And Apu is really funny, but Much Apu About Nothing is so smart in its writing and still scarily relevant 24 years later that it strikes a huge chord with me.
