Had a Suzuki RG 500, detuned street version, rode it for a week then decided to sell it, not because it wasn't a great bike, it was because all the traffic around me was in slow motion. The GP bikes were way more powerful, with a narrow power band, they were only for the professional riders and they scared them too.
Great to see this. Soundtrack from the glory days of racing. Great to see the old girl still enjoys a spanking. Grew up with 2-strokes. Its a sound and a smell that's unforgettable.
If two stroke would have been evolving at the cutting edge of the premier class they wouldn't be so far from current 4 stroke bikes in terms of lap times. I mean not only engines but brakes, suspensions, electronics and aerodynamics
Why doesn't anyone dyno these beasts? Sure there are lots of rides on track but I would love to see what kind of power and torque they have, and also the power+torque curves
I Was just wondering what the power differentials are between then and now , between two stroke and 4’s ,way the power band delivered all its power limited only by the wrist (which imo is how it should be 😬🤷🏼♂️) …I remember just starting to ride around the time this bike was new …. There was one kid who had a older two stroke 350 (I dont recall the model or anything but wanna say rd 350) and another 2 kids with a new ninja 500 …I was on a older 4 stroke 650 then quickly to a ‘82 maxim 750 and neither could get away from me at all untill the curves lol…so I didnt get the whole 2 stroke fascination then at all…the 500 was the slowest though and considered to us (600 or bigger bike riders) as a great beginner bike at best …we didn’t understand why anyone would get a 500 over a 600 …? , I was young and knew then already I could t get any “crotch rocket” type bike as I was already riding to crazy on my cruiser style maxim…. 😂.. at any rate I’m old now and am now fascinated with knowing some of the history and the progression from 2 strokes to where MotoGP is now …
I get uneasy every time someone jumps on one of these museum pieces . Dont you dare crash it . While Canepa is a good rider , it might be best to get Eddie to ring its neck next time .
@@yamaharacing It's a shame that it's not the original engine sound, but it's probably unleaded gasoline, and it's a valuable motorcycle, so it can't be helped. Thank you for your valuable video.
All bikes should sound like this! What a beast!
I love the sound of a two stroke but 4 strokes sound better
@@posniknelb6114 RC166.
This 2-stroke sounds like heaven!
What a great bike! I miss these 2T bikes...
You and us both!
Excuse my ignorance , what’s 2T? Is this a way of abbreviating 2stroke ?
@@vicpnut1 Yes Sir.
This was fantastic! Love to see more like this in future with other other Grand Prix bikes
amazing onboard!!
Wow! My dream ride right there. That and the YZM 500❤❤
And track. My dream track day
Good lord. That's just scary. What a monster.
I wish I/they had some on board video back from the 2 years on my TZ750 in '80 and '81 - absolute insanity
Talk about a demonic bike.
Yeah. A 2-Stroke 750...Doesn't bear thinking about.
Face-Meltingly fast.
An awesome bike on an awesome track!
Yes, yes and more yes
The sense of realism is amazing.
Amazing.

I misread the title so I was super impressed with seeing ole Eddie Lawson pushing hard on that 40yo museum piece 😅.
Lawson's not far off being a museum piece himself. 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, that is just an awesome Ride, thank you :)

would like to see more stuff like this, maybe with the pre-rossi motogp bikes
We're working on it. This is one of the reasons we created the Yamaha Racing Heritage Club
Before Toprak leave if possible! Seeing him on Valentino's bike would be hugh in terms of communication
GP Bike should be like this... Power to Weight Ratio Monster 🔥🔥🔥
Che poesia...
Best sound.....❤❤❤Yamaha
Magnificent!
dream come true!!!
When he turned his head to the right while in that right hander@ around the 1:50 min mark I thought he was losing the rear for a second lol
Need a two stroker modern sport bike and YZF R9 from Yamaha

Altri tempi. Bel video comunque!
The bike was run a bit rich for safety.
Sounds a bit too short geared for this track but... was a beast!!!

To me they cut power top 4 k rpm earlier
He kept Bogging it down until he figured out you gotta keep those RPMs up
He was shit scared of the power band.....can't really blame him
That's a nice bike.
How 'bout you throw me some laps.....
tanta roba
Mammamia
Nice! The only thing missing is the smell of castor oil...
New generation riders: so where is the wheely control? Cant drive without that!

Sounds like it's got blocked carbs or something...
She's singing the "Too Fat Polka".
😁😁😁
A screamer
Except Eddie did it with far less protective riding gear!
Very true. Much thinner leather, very little padding and no air bag 😳
I get uneasy every time someone jumps on one of these museum pieces . Dont you dare crash it . While Canepa is a good rider , it might be best to get Eddie to ring its neck next time .
Too rich Carburation???
Yes, the bikes are run rich for safety, and to avoid wear and tear on the engines.
@@yamaharacing It's a shame that it's not the original engine sound, but it's probably unleaded gasoline, and it's a valuable motorcycle, so it can't be helped. Thank you for your valuable video.
I thought there was a bit of 4 stroking amongst it too.
Spinga spinga...
Mboh
Bella grassa eh...immagino volessero evitare una grippata disastrosa!
True, the bike was run rich for safety of both the engine and the rider!
Clearly afraid of that throttle
well..that was fast!
Would have been nice to get some flying lap times
Man cant ride a two stroke..
