Hi folks, welcome to today. I’m going to show you how I made myself a very interesting electric production system that works by using an exercise bike pedal system. The plan of the day is to make myself a huge dynamo, but these capable to generate enough amperage and wattage to power and trolling motor, which also will be made completely with scrap pieces and recycle parts
In this case to build the trolling motor, I show you step-by-step guide on how to do it
I decided to take 24 V DC motor and spins pretty fast but it’s not enough torque for what I really need
So the plan today is just to make a very slow RPM trolling motor just to go trolling fishing so I’m not expecting to go very fast just slow and relax speed
So, to improve the performance of the motor is important to add some gear reduction system that I just took apart for example, from an old drill
Took the motor to the prop itself I decided to take an regional gear system from a foot of a two-stroke engine motor from a little boat
And I didn’t connect all the parts using some wood adapters and stainless steel rods and this was pretty simple to fabricate very lightweight
I came out this homemade trolling motor on the back of the kayak just building amount of metal structure that is fixed on the back of the kayak itself using some nylon strips
the dynamite self is basically an electric scooter motor that is a three face brushless smaller, but if we spin it, we are producing current like a regular dynamo
In this case, we want to extract from the output of these power production, dynamo, DC current instead of alternative, three phase current
I just bought a six diode bridge rectifier, which basically takes these three phase and turn them into DC which is what I need
Now we can connect the output of the bridge rectifier to the DC motor. Consider that even if you change direction of peddling, the propeller will always speed in the same direction, so is impossible to go in reverse using this method
You absolutely need to install a reverse switch on the output if necessary
So my test of this video works great the dynamo doesn’t get overheated at all and also the DC motors stay cool
But I want to improve all the mechanical system just replacing the propeller because right now it’s too small and probably will install a carbon 20 inch propeller coming from an remote control airplane

need to make yourself a nice backrest! legs are so much more efficient pushing against a seat. and you will be comfy for longer. like a Recumbent bike.

Interesting and successful proof of concept. It had me wondering about converting linear motion to rotational motion or use of a linear motor for power generation with the idea of keeping leg motion lower in the kayak and only back and forth for a more comfortable use. I enjoyed the project.

id like to think my comment on the last video got you to make this, followed you way back in the day when you made the first trolling motor, now all you need to do is make another rebreather, use a soda stream can...
    love you bruh
(edit) i watched this video 9 hours after release and the old video was released 9 years ago

Nice work! Maybe tone back the music in your video when you're talking. It's quite grinding to try and listen to you speak while there's loud music drowning your voice out.

Super interesting. How difficult was it to keep peddling? could you have handled a higher gearing so to speak?
That snake!!!! you obviously don't live in Australia, haha. I'm looking forward to the new prop experiments you mention.

Also, maybe try adding a small capacitor on the dc side.

Instead of using a different propeller wouldn't it make more sense to change the gearing?

I thought so too until he mentioned changing the prop. I think changing the prop indeed might yield better results. A prop is designed for specific speeds and ofc this one is not optimal here. You want torque, exactly what he did with the gearing. And a bigger prop will "grab" more water and benefit more to this setup. Although bigger prop means a bigger load. And in this case I suspect thick wires might not be so unnecessary like here. Rulof please make an update when you get to it !

why do this when a mechanical linkage would theoretically be more efficient?

Exactly. Although powering it via electricity is an interesting idea it is not even remotely practical.

Could only be beneficial when you want to store the energy.

for sure! but using copper cables i can place the motor anyware!

Or when your battery is empty, having this pedals and wiring allows you to continue going forward up to a safe place!

Hey man. You gonna do anything with your other channel with 4.5 hundred thousand more subscribers ? You seemed to still get more views. I don’t really understand the want to start a new channel that looks exactly the same. You’re just splitting your audience and cutting yourself out of recommendations
