Rammstein is one of the most controversial and intelligent bands of our time. Very often there are hidden messages in their lyrics and what at first sounds very banal or superficial is, at second glance, profound social criticism or addresses other serious topics such as mental health.
A good example is the song "Ich tu dir weh", (i think you did a reaction bout one year ago?) where it sounds for a long time as if another person is being tortured, until the lyric line "ich seh im Spiegel dein Gesicht" (i see your face in the mirror) makes it clear that it's about self-mutilation.

Ramstein was an American military base in Germany; there was a flight show there which went horribly wrong, a plane crashed, killing many in the crowd of onlookers. Rammstein made a song about it called Rammstein and the band was named after it.

The band name “Rammstein” was initially only intended as a project name, but was published despite a spelling error and could no longer be taken back. The inspiration was the Ramstein air show, where 70 people died in a plane crash in 1988.

  • @Spiritmage1
    @Spiritmage1 Місяць тому +29

The name of the band comes from an airbase of the US Air Force which is located in south west of Germany. On 28th of august 1988 happened on of the biggest air show disaster. From Wikipedia: Rammstein, a German metal band formed in 1994, have stated that they take their name from the Ramstein air show disaster; in turn, the asteroid 110393 Rammstein is named after the band. The band's self-titled song (on the album Herzeleid (1995)) refers to the event.
Funfact: They sprayed the name onto the wall of a van and decided to name themselves like this, but accidentally added another "m", probably (I think) because "to ram" is written in german with 2 "m".
Edit: Should have watched the video until the end. You already found out haha.

Rammstein is no actual word in the German language. Somehow it refers to the US air base in the town of Ramstein in south Germany where a terrible accident happened. During a flight show two planes crashed near the audience and many people died in the fire. They added another m to the word so it sounded like two stones ramming each other. A fantasy word

Rammstein is actually a legally changed reference to Ramstein, a city in Germany with a USA airbase. One of their songs actually is about a airshow acident where a jet fell into the crowd. There is no translation it is the city name just changed. The name of the song is Rammstein.

Ramstein is a village in Germany where one of the biggest (if not the biggest) US airforce base out of the US is located. The airforce base gained notoriety with a very bad aeroplane accident during a military flight show and lots of visitors died. According to this accicent they named their band Rammstein (willingly with one more additional 'm'). The band is wellknown for breaking taboos and playing with stereotypes just to make the audience think. That's why they gave themselves the bands name.

They wanted to name the band after the town "Ramstein" in Germany. This town hosts the most important military base outside the US. They just missed the fact the the town is written only with one "m", so they ended up naming the band "Rammstein", which indeed means "ramming stone".

They originally wanted to call themselves "Rammstein-Flugschau", which translates to "Rammstein Airshow", as a reference to the tragic air show disaster that occurred at the Ramstein Air Base in West Germany in 1988.
However, they made a small mistake when writing down the name and accidentally wrote "Rammstein" with two M's instead of one. This mistake actually ended up sticking, and the band decided to keep the name Rammstein as it was. And the rest is history! 🤘

  • @CarlBank250
    @CarlBank250 Місяць тому

The name Rammstein originated from their first idea to name the band after the catastrophic air show accident that occured at the 1996 air show at the air base in Ramstein, resulting in 70 people dead and about 1000 injured. They named the band "Rammstein Air Show Desaster" without checking the spelling of the town Ramstein.
Later they just stick with "Rammstein" without the :air show desaster' but keeping the typo.

  • @ModoTronic666
    @ModoTronic666 Місяць тому +2

Rammstein translates to ramming stone. But their name was taking from the Ramstein U.S. Military base disaster. They added another "M" in the word.
So I'm not sure if the "Rammstein" in the chorus is just a shout of the band name or what the band name means ramming stone.

Ramstein, with only one M, is a town in the southwest of Germany near Kaiserslautern. Furthermore it is the largest air base (number of personal) of the US Airforce outside Northamerica. In August 1988 there was an airshow that turned in a disaster after two jets of the Italien aerobatic squadron Frecce Tricolori (tricoloured arrows - referencing the Italian flag) crashed into each other, fell to the ground, exploded and killed 70 and injured about 1,000 men, women and children. It is said that the band Rammstein was named after that. However they spelled it with two instead of one M. However, you can also interpret it in a different way. ' zu ammen' means 'to ram' and 'Stein' means 'stone'.

Till Lindemann, the lead singer, is possibly one of the most fascinating artists I've ever come across. He writes a lot of their songs, and thus, as a poet, they have deep lyrics with multiple underlying meanings. Yes, his onstage personality is a caricature. In real life, he's quite shy and has a quiet pain about him. I have a friend who traveled around with him for a while who's said that he's been very broken by his childhood.
The other interesting figure in the band is Christian "Flake" Lorenz, the keyboardist. He only joined reluctantly when the others talked him into it. He's a very talented synth player who has a lot of deep political opinions.
BTW, both Till and Flake have great solo music, as well! I saw Till live in New York City, and he put on one hell of a good show!

The name "Rammstein" comes from the location name, a town name and the accident that happened there. But if you'd break the words apart then yes, "ramm" and "stein". Although location name itself is written with one letter "m", you read the reason why band name was adjusted.
Song itself I believe was the opening song of the MSG show and is sort of their "hymn" or "introduction". Also a good way to let everyone know how to spell band name :)

The light in the mouth is a nod to the video for Ich Tu Dir Weh, in which Till has a light shining out of his mouth. The difference is that for the music video, Till had a hole drilled in his cheek and poked the light through, whereas it's cleverly stuck inside his cheek here. The reason for this is that obviously it's dangerous to keep drilling holes in your face, as well as painful, and I've heard that the hole made for the video kept getting infected - obviously something you don't really want. Nevertheless, Till was still reluctant to agree to having the wire going into his mouth, rather than through his cheek, for the stage shows, in case it didn't look authentic.

Ramstein Air Base is a military airfield of the United States Air Force, the headquarters of the United States Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa and the headquarters of the Allied Air Command Ramstein, a NATO command authority for the command of air forces. All "military operations" in Afghanistan, Middle East and North Africa, are directed from there, the US will lose all of that when it leaves NATO, the only positive thing I see since November!
The air disaster was really tragic, the US Air Force has a lot to do with the origin and the number of deaths, through the organization before and after.
The song is their best concert opener, in my opinion. In the beginning, Till had his cheek pierced for the cable, but it kept getting infected and he couldn't drink properly.

Moin ut noorddüütschland ( low saxony germany) vun de waterkant Bremerhaven 👍😊
The German word Ramstein is an Old German name and is formed from two Old German words, RAM (sheep ram) male sheep.
STONE was also used in castle name endings. and means something like wall made of stone.
In Germany there are many castle names and fortresses ending in stein.
There are many place and castle names with these endings
    Falkenstein
    Wittgenstein etc.
another old German word is BURG. Which can also be found in place and castle endings.
    Hamburg
    Marburg
    Wilhelmsburg
    Wartburg etc.
Meaning just like the old German word stein in place name endings.
Allerbest un hool di wuchtig mien deern 😊👍

@@PaiMei667, certain things all aligned is related to the stars gaining something. New Moon Sabbath to New Moon Sabbath of Ramadan 2025 from February 28, 2025, to March 29, 2025, is going to suck for humanity.
      Isaiah 66:23
““New moon to new moon, Sabbath to Sabbath, all mankind will come to be brought down before Me,” saith Yahweh.”
What is Yahweh promising as Barack Hussein Obama gains all Islamic prostration at the top of Mt. Zion while reading from the Quran to prove he is Allah.
      Zephaniah 1:2-3
“”I will cease all, from the face of the Earth,” declares Yahweh, “I will cease man like a beast. I will cease all the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea, and bring down to ruins until the wicked are cut off, mankind from the face of the Earth,” declares Yahweh.”
MARCH 13-14, 2025 Total lunar eclipse & appearing as a BLOOD MOON
      Joel 2:31
“The Sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood red, before the Great and Terrible day of Yahweh cometh.”
      The Acts 2:20
“The Sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood red, before the Great and Terrible day of Yahweh cometh.”
And that's just the promise of what is to come this Ramadan 2025, it won't even be halfway over then.
      Joel 3:15
“The Sun and moon shall be darkness; and the stars assembled together for brightness of them shall be brought down.”
      NIGHT OF POWER - Al-Qadr - MARCH 26, 2025.
Quran: Al-Qadr (Night of Power) Surah 97
“We ordain Ramadan muBarack on the Night of our Power.”
“Insha Allah it is revealed on the Night of our Power.”
“For the Night of our Power is better than a thousand moons.”
“Wherein come to you fallen angels with a Spirit of permission unto anything.”
“Rest unto, the coming of the Light.”
ALL LIFE DEAD ON THIS PLANET BY MARCH 30, 2025.

In German the word Rammlied is pronounced 'Rammleed' . I know Americans have a big problem with ie and ei so you will be forgiven ............for now ;) (example : Weinstein, Americans pronounce this as Winesteen, that is wrong, it is pronounced Winestine.)
