      Hopefully they fill the tanks when they put those back on so maybe the pressure will help them get fuel through it... I’ve learned the hard way how much fuel you need in the tanks to prime an old diesel engine like this... always knew it was an issue priming they fuel because it’s a Mack motor and those things NEVER die...

    Always pre-fill engine filters. Priming fuel filters by hand sucks. Also...for heaven's sake, lubricate the filter gaskets!! Next, don't fool with the ride height, especially if you want to run fenders over the drives. The truck will need that suspension travel to keep from beating up the equipment. Remember this is a class 8 semi, not a Camaro.

    Love the freightshaker! A couple tips I've learnt along the way: 1. Run an oil flush additive through the engine and get the oil warm before draining especially on a truck that's been sitting for a while. 2. Before removing your old oil filters drive a screwdriver or sharp punch into bottom of oil filters to let them drain so it doesn't make a mess everywhere but make sure you have the correct replacement oil filters before putting holes in the old ones. 3. use a filter cutter and cut open the old oil filters to see if there is any contaminates/bearing material, good way to check condition of an unknown engine. keep up the good work

    I have been a Diesel Technician for a freightliner dealer for 7 years but have been in the trucking industry for over 10 years. Black fuel is one of 2 causes algae in the filters and tanks due to water buildup and oil coming from the fuel pump due to the Series 60 detroits having a oil lubricating pump. Need to check pump seal for damage since it is run by the air compressor and check for tanks for algae growth

    You will need a DOT inspection before you can hit the road with this truck. It will have to be done by a certified shop. You also need an NSC # before you hit the road as well even if you haul your own equipment you still need this. If you plane to haul for someone else equipment you will need DOT authority to operate in the area you want to. You can not change the ride height in the rear suspension it must be set to factory specks whit no deviation. IF not it will do all kinds of driveline damage and the truck will shake like crazy. Its been a while since I worked on one of those trucks. But the broken line is likely for the locking mechanism for the gear shift. without it you will not be able to shift the transmission or lift the cab next time. (I can't remember which it is) If you put a small bottle jack between the frame and the front of the spring and jack up then the same at the back of the spring and lift. You will be able to tell how much play are in the bushings. I would say that the bushing are shot on your truck by watt you say. When you change the bushing at that back of the springs you can flip the aluminum shackles over so the wear is on the outside. The shackles must fit tight on the spring and the frame bracket. If they do not the truck will tend to wander down the road. With the age of the truck, you may have to change the frame bracket as well. All things you do be for painting the truck frame.

    You should prime those fuel filters before you try to crank it? Some of those older ones had little hand pumps on the fuel filter carrier to prime them? Dont know if that one does or not? Either way, Id fill the filters with fuel before you try to crank it to keep air out of the fuel system and injectors. If you get air in the injectors, youll have to bleed them before it will crank? I think the main reason they said dont put the stacks on the headache rack is because those stacks get hot. They will probably burn the chrome up on the headache rack? Or at least discolor it? Might make the headache rack hot as well? I dont know that to be a fact since Ive never drove one with stacks mounted to the headache rack but thats the only reason I could think it would be a problem? If the headache rack gets as hot as the stacks, you wont be able to touch it?

    I am not expert but I can google "black diesel fuel"
    When diesel fuel cools down during storage dissolved water will be released as small droplets. ... Dirt, rust or oxidised fuel may form a fine suspension of brown or red particles, causing a greasy black deposit on the fuel filter. Laboratory analysis of the filter and fuel may be required to establish the cause.

    • @demetresrobinson2694

      A lot of shops "blend" their fuel diesel/oil mix. They do that to save money to keep from paying the recycling fee. Stretching the company fuel mileage as well.
      The down fall is if the person dumping the oil in the fuel storage tanks doesn't strain the oil from all the metal shavings, lookout injectors.
      If its not that then a engine rebuild is in the near future.

    There is nothing wrong or lower rates with the composite bottom airbags, usually it's the rubber that rots first, also the fuel is black because it goes up and through the head not only for fueling but cooling so it tends to soot up and blacken. Hope this info helps

  • @myrodeo100

    By the time you see this, you'll have already realized you should have filled those new fuel filters. Newbie mistake... The fuel is black because the truck sat and the filters broke down. OR... the previous owner used to recycle the motor oil in the fuel rather than dispose of it after a change. Somebody already said this, but you need to move those air lines and trailer light connections further back toward the fifth wheel. I'd hate to drive that things with super long lines. The only issue I can think of with the stacks on the rack could be state laws against that setup. Because the engine flexes in the mounts, there needs to be some kind of flex pipe between the engine and the stacks.

    • @myrodeo100
      @myrodeo100 4 роки тому +1

    If you see your fuel filters have black fuel in them next service check the fuel pump on the block. It could be allowing oil from the engine into the fuel. Series 60s can have this problem. Easy to change in a new one.
