I imagine fine abrasives could work quite well, at least temporarily. I do a lot of knife sharpening. I use resin bonded diamond stones a lot. The spots on my fingers that come in regular contact with the stones are totally smooth. It's more like a thin callus though, so it does heal up and go back to normal after a few weeks.

Yes, we see a lot of worn prints by anyone who has a career working with their hands and rough surfaces (think like masonary, rock work, construction, etc). But as you point out is more like a callus and they will grow back to better definition.

He could have just put on gloves or applied glue to his fingers. But he went with melting his fingers off.

So the process of removing your prints to become anonymous… actually results in you being more unique - and thus easier to identify.

Fingerprints are not as unique as once thought. There have been a few cases where people have had the same fingerprints match resulting in the wrong person being evicted. :-)

That’s interesting I’ve not heard of multiple cases like that, would you mind linking them? I’d love to dive into them as case studies.
