They say that every day is a gift, but in reality, the only days that are truly gifts are the ones where Randy drops a nutty video across our collective chests and smears some knowledge directly into our hearts. Bless you, good sir. And thank you!
Thank you SOOOOOOO much for taking the time to explain these different radio's, frequencies and all the other info that's attached to them. I'm an old timer that was really into CB's and met a lot of great people by being involved in that. In fact I still have two linears that I use to use on my CB's. One is a 100 watt and the other one is a 250 watt. Illegal of course but when no-one would give you a break, you flipped a switch and TOOK one! But all these different radios and frequencies nowadays, for an old time like me, it's downright confusing. That's why I say thank you for taking the time to explain all this stuff. I love to off road and have a CB with SSB in my '47 CJ2A Willy's. Kinda lets you know where I'm coming from. I'm, 74 years young and still enjoying wheeling and life in general. I wish you all the very best. You are really appreciated!!!
I discovered your channel about a week ago and I am(at 70 years old) going to get a ham radio license. When I was young I had an ol Packard-Bell sw radio that was about 2 ft square. At night I picked up stations in Europe and even Australia. With the shape of the world right now it is extremely important to communicate if the shtf.
Stumbled across your channel doing research for GMRS. Informative, amusing, and well done. Dumped a bunch of money into CB's in the early 00's, went into truck and dumped less, now we're looking for something for family trips and think GMRS might fit the bill for range and simplicity to utilize range. Likely to outfit several vehicles and a few boats. Thank you for taking the time to put this information out there. You are correct, CB is dying, most truckers that have them now only use them for shippers and receivers coms, and the occasional bear or parking lot reports. Lot lizards (last I knew) use them for advertising before splashing themselves off in with a 1/2 diesel 1/2 rainwater puddle on their way to the next client...
I enjoy the videos because of the " I GIVE A SHIT OF WHAT THEY SAY! " . Also the production value the videos is excellent! I was in the production services for Many Many Years! Retired now and being a Happy Ham for over 35 years and a GMRS license holder as well and enjoy the new found fun in radios. KEEP IT COMING!
I almost spit my coffee out when he said, "Ham radio is best for me and I'm too stupid to realize that other people's needs may be different from my own."
Great summary. I got a ham license, but then also got a gmrs license, because the value of having two-way comms is being able to talk to someone, and sometimes that someone might only be on GMRS.
You, sir, are a wild man! Thanks for your videos. At 62, I'm late to the game but am soaking up your vids in an effort to make an informed purchase. You rock.
Love the bold personality on you! You got great energy! Straight to the point, and god I love how you just flat out tell people they are dumb. Cause, jesus.... We'll leave it at that. You got my support, I'm new to the radio game, but because of your vidoe's I don't feel like such a n00b anymore. Thanks!
I always thought gmrs radio was a up scale cb radio. I have had cb for over 40 years. I think it's time to get into the 21st century. I think I will be getting the Midland 50 watt unit. You give it high marks. Keep up the great work
We talked L1 to L3 in a parking garage with perfect tx and rx. UV-10R on L1 and a KG-UV9D Mate. We were on GMRS channel 10. With all that concrete and steel I was quite impressed. The UV-10 was also inside an electrical room.
Thanks man... you have been very informative and fun to watch... I just bought a BF RV-5R radio and have been watching your beginner videos... this one was really great because I knew nothing about any of the radio services. I wanted to have a radio that I could pick up emergency services or NOAA for emergencies at home. I lost power last spring at the house and it made me feel very vulnerable, no power, no nothing for 26 hours... our cell phones worked after the storm, but we had to go to the car to charge them. So, I have been preparing for when the next disaster hits and I can hear what's going on. I got a little generator so we can stay powered and the radio will help in case no cell phones or FM or TV is broadcast... god help us all if it ever gets to the point. But, I wanted to give you a thumbs up for your funny informative channel... I hope to program my BF UV-5R to at least get the channels to keep us safe... Call sign Airdromer is my dads call sign from when he was a Navel Aviator in WWII.. so I'd like to get to that level of radio use where I can earn that call sign... J O'L
I'm a ham but realize it's not for everyone. Best way to sum it up is the farther you can transmit, the more people you might affect should you transmit incorrectly (wrong band, wrong frequency or whatever). FRS is so a lot of small (1km) group of people can talk to each other. GMRS widens that circle by allowing a bit more tx power but you might interfer with nearby groups. With HAMs, you have much more power available with better antennas, where you can communicate father still.
Absolutly love your content, FUNNY, Very Informitave, and just out right gold. I just recently got into the hobby knowing absolutly nothing, now I have some knowledge. For this I thank you. Keep up the good work 😁📻
I Just order a Baofeng Uv 82hp thinking that I was just going to get it out of the box and scan local Chanel’s just to listen, but after all this ham radio research it’s going to be more complicated then I thought, By the way love your channel and your unique style to inform viewers. From Colorado Springs Colorado
Very good summary. I had a CB in the early 2000s. Truckers were still pretty active on it back then, but you're right, it has definitely died off now. I have an old one with a mag mount antenna that I plug in occasionally to hear what's going on. All I hear (on CH 19 mostly) is weirdos with high power amplifiers rambling about nothing, the occasional trucker bitching about it. Sounds like a mental hospital. I recently decided to go all-in on GMRS and got a license and a 50W mobile. We have quite a few repeaters here in PA and weekly nets. I want to get a HAM license eventually, but I know that's a slippery slope with all the equipment needed to get on the various bands. Plus, some local guys have said that HAM is almost as quiet as GMRS around here lately. But as you said, not much to talk about if the shit isn't hitting the fan.
When I was a kid, and lived in Sicily, I had a toy walkie-talkie; don't ask me how, but I could hear stations from North Africa, such as Tunisia and Morocco.
FRS: A high school campus, or an outdoor mall. GMRS (portable): 2 miles simplex in a neighborhood with trees and 2-story houses. MURS: only if you own all the radios on your campus/business and don't want to talk to anyone else. GMRS (HT/mobile): best all-around if you have repeaters available, or if you have 25-50 watts simplex in a small-sized city. HAM: most capable and versatile but you can only talk to other hams, so GMRS it is.
Hey I know a ScubaSteve back in Eastern Ontario, we were in a 4x4 Jeep club, He had a pretty extreme lifted Jeep and a bit of a legend. If that is the Scuba Steve, I hope you are well!
It was great to see that HAM radio did not get it's own finger. That must be one hell of a teleprompter because I didn't see you look down at your notes at all, great job great video
Being able to use GMRS legally without having to study a course and do a test is a bonus... Adding some lower frequencies to that list would be good.....
I just bought some Motorola T800s for hunting. You can use them as a modem to send texts to your buddy, but that feature only works on low power and it mostly sorta works.
Randy if I you're having trouble sleeping try this. Put on a video explaining how to take the HAM radio test. That usually puts me out in 7 to 9 seconds. The only down side is you may have a nightmare about this ham bone being... Well that's a story for another time.
Good video! I’m a Ham operator but not a sad ham yet and hopefully never will be. I’m biased but if your interested in radio stuff, lots of different areas to explore.
I live in the DFW area. Hardly any GMRS repeaters here apparently and none nearby me specifically. So I guess I'm stuck with HAM for any long-range capability. Bummer.
I really enjoyed your breaking down the differences of the types of radios. I pulled the C.B. out of my Wrangler close to 10 years back as it was about useless. It's only use is taking up valuable space.
You did a great show on giving the radio services how they work. I am a member of the Midwest link repeater services every now and then California will Linkin to us I enjoy talking to people in California from Indiana Idaho they stayed LinkedIn with us and Texas Wisconsin Long Island if your repeater that you go through gets linked with the Midwest my call letters are wrq k245 unit 5 Tim from Brownsville Indiana on the connersville Indiana repeater towers 400 ft in the air I am a prepper but don't prep toilet if I run out of toilet paper there's never a shortage on newspapers. Newspapers are multi-use sit on the toilet read the newspaper then when you get done you wipe that's way it was back in my old days.
The clown has no penis
Thats not what you said when you were choking on it last night.
They say that every day is a gift, but in reality, the only days that are truly gifts are the ones where Randy drops a nutty video across our collective chests and smears some knowledge directly into our hearts. Bless you, good sir. And thank you!
I didn't know I was on the train to Tuna Town, now I know. Let's rejoice! 🎉🎉🎉
Well said @Wendiig0
You get it

I've been a ham for 7 years and......lol...never mind......your videos are freaking awesome.
Oooohhh I just felt Randolfo's finger poised over the pin command until you said never mind. 😁
bloodhound gang reference kept me alive.
Glad I'm not the only one that caught them.

Holy smokes, thirty seconds in and Randy's droppin' Bloodhound Gang references! I'm definitely sticking around for the rest of this one!
Thank you for the excellent easy to understand answer to most people’s questions. 👍🏻

It's nice to know that my fishing license is good on MURS.
My campfire license is also acceptable 💪🏽😂
Think yourselves lucky in the UK you are supposed to have a license to watch TV!
That's why my parents left there.
That's MUUUURRS. Say it right.
I almost spit my coffee out when he said, "Ham radio is best for me and I'm too stupid to realize that other people's needs may be different from my own."
He is hilarious AND informative too! Great channel to learn from
I have an old 23 channel CB radio that sits on a shelf as a dust collector.
You rock.
Anyone else come back and re-watch N-A-R's videos just to catch up on the comments? This is definitely going to be one of those...

I just discovered your channel today...technically yesterday...and I love it. Subbed.
Why Did You Leave Out Cup Phone!? I'm just waiting for the FCC Cup Phone license to drop from $1 to $.50
Enjoy your videos. Your very good at "cya" and I don't blame you. I have been a "ham" (tinkerer) over 50years; so what , to each there own! 😅
Excellent summary. Former CB'er, now GMRS, and long time happy ham.
20 mins very well spent. Thanks!!
Great review...fair, accurate and unbiased...well done sir.
I can’t believe that I’m your favorite viewer. I hadn’t even found the channel yet when this video came out.
FRS - 9mm pistol
CB - 12 gauge shotgun
GMRS - AR15
HAM - ICBM
FYI……
A lap dance is so much better when stripper is crying.
🤣

Great job on this one❗️ and yes I am a ham that likes this channel 🤔 sorry I’m a happy ham🐷🤷♂️. KV5P
Me too N3yj/WRME632
So ham and gmrs are the best!
Just getting in to this hobby, and this is a great video to get a historical and current look at the radio community! Thanks! 👍
I literally spit my Mountain Dew during that intro.
Bro I could not stop laughing about your dream that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time
The microphone you're using sounds great, love your videos
You just brought me back to my childhood with your dream

Thank you for to easy to understand explanations and the humor, new subscriber and new to the communicating world, sorta.
hi im from india and im new to radio communication. Thanks for the information it really helped a lot...!!!
Brother, you are so funny. I love your attitude. have a nice day boss
Intro to your video reminded me of that midnight run haulin' hog to Shaky Town on I one-oh.
Ha, nice Bloodhound Gang reference to kick off the video.
Your the man great channel entertaining thanks, buying GMRS license soon as it is 35 bucks.
Someday...
Thanks for the video.

My first video of yours and i subscribed because of the comments on commenters at the end lol
Enjoying the content you gained a suscriber.
Hey I know a ScubaSteve back in Eastern Ontario, we were in a 4x4 Jeep club, He had a pretty extreme lifted Jeep and a bit of a legend. If that is the Scuba Steve, I hope you are well!
Very informative. Thanks
10:01 - Made my day. Great info on all these radio services and "fars". 12:29 = Code Orange.
I've been using CB for almost 60 years and I have never heard anyone using 11 meter FM. SSB is fairly active though
UA-cam Hobo trying to ride that UA-cam train (PAUSE) to tune it down. LOL That's funny!
Great video
It was great to see that HAM radio did not get it's own finger. That must be one hell of a teleprompter because I didn't see you look down at your notes at all, great job great video
It's a relief knowing I'm not the only one with the dream.
I heard that with a ham license one can hunt and kill feral swine. But I may have misunderstood.
Best intro every sir! Santa and the cheeselog, epic
Another excellent video...much love from Canada 🇨🇦 you might have inadvertently made some sad Hams less sad.
I'm going to start using fars as my new unit of measure.
Being able to use GMRS legally without having to study a course and do a test is a bonus... Adding some lower frequencies to that list would be good.....
“Just like Dungeons & Dragons” 🤣🤣😂😂
I literally LOL at that 🤣😂😂
I just bought some Motorola T800s for hunting. You can use them as a modem to send texts to your buddy, but that feature only works on low power and it mostly sorta works.
I rely on your knowledge so I know how to use my Baofeng when SHTF ! THX

Dude no lie I signed up to ham radio prep even tho Eric is very knowledgeable he puts me to sleep on his videos🤣
Love that sense of humor!!!!
Good video! I’m a Ham operator but not a sad ham yet and hopefully never will be. I’m biased but if your interested in radio stuff, lots of different areas to explore.
CB Radio is actually coming back especially since the "pandemic". I love your videos. You should do more CB radio videos.
Y because of the pandemic. I got into it because of events happening around the election
...just like Dungeons and Dragons... Busted out laughing on that one!
Bloodhound Gang reference 😂👍
I live in the DFW area. Hardly any GMRS repeaters here apparently and none nearby me specifically. So I guess I'm stuck with HAM for any long-range capability. Bummer.
There are lots of repeaters in the DFW area. Where are you specifically as far as city?
I'm here to monitor the Sad Ham Net...
no sad ham traffic. 🤣
Someone ought to create that net in Randy’s honor.
I would like to hear about the radio services that I’ve never heard of please
Dan, Big Ran is going to need to know which radio services you’ve never heard of so he can explain them to you. Jus’Sayin’ 👍
Conspicuously missing is the SS (Subsonic Service) where you can talk to submarines and dolphins.
@@gone2dmtns Killer Whales ( Orca's ) Control that Now...lol
Thanks! Fantastic job. Cheers!
I like you just starting to learn about this stuff
Another great video, Randy. Thanks for your time.
I really enjoyed your breaking down the differences of the types of radios. I pulled the C.B. out of my Wrangler close to 10 years back as it was about useless. It's only use is taking up valuable space.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Where can I purchase a 60 ft mobile antenna for my MURS service? Ideally one that is very flexible when traveling under overpasses?
Another great video from a guy named Randy. :)I think I've had that same dream.....
You had me at the Blood Hound Gang refrence.
Hey Randy thank you for welcoming me to your notarubicon zello link it's awesome talking there on my network radio. WRPM276 here.
You mean one of these days, I won't be a dork? That's awesome!
Oh yay a new video!!!
Great video sir! #RightToolForTheRightJob AL5J (not a sad ham)
can you use the call sign as: Sovereign Citizen?
Love your non bull way of making a video!
Bloodhound gang! I love it 😂😂😂

Thanks, man. You have a creative mind (or have the outline for a great "cult classic" animated film). 😂
Love the bloodhound gang reference
I love the Bloodhound Gang reference🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the Blood Hound Gang reference
all new to radio should watch this first before decide what type of radios they need.
Dude, I have that dream all the time.
Do you end up tasting the cheese log? Or that just me.
