Dr. Energy Saver, I just discovered your videos this morning and I have been binge watching all of them. It’s amazing how well they relate to today’s environment when they were made so many years ago. So you were definitely a well educated pioneer on this topic before any of us knew what energy efficiency was! I live on the water in Baltimore, Md. My house was elevated after being basically destroyed by hurricane Isabel in 2004. The first level has a concrete floor with cinder block walls. I would love to insulate the concrete floor & walls as you have in the videos; but with flooding happening every so often, which could be as minimal as a surface dampening or 1-2 inches which might remain for a day or so, would the insulated floor paneling withstand something like that? Thank you so much for your well produced & educational videos! Your the best!
    Steve

Why does everyone forget the importance of insulating the floor before framing? The wood and drywall wicks the moisture.

This is a slick product BASF. Makes most (all?) graphite polystyrene (GPS) for others to fabricate into desired shapes /superior to traditional eps as graphite reflects within structure of the board . Also superior to XPS. Boards. The adhered t and g MgSO4 makes this a one step solution . Of course as mentioned above if subslab was iinsulated and had vapor membrane properly installed at time of construction this is greatly superior but this is next best thing

Bob, I think retrofitting an existing basement floor is more trouble than it is worth - cutting channels etc. I'd invest the money to insulate the floor properly, insulate the walls, and airseal the rim joist, install efficient windows - and you'll need less heat.

Larry Janesky Hey there, Larry. I'm located in Waterbury and I am finishing my basement soon. Is this product available for purchase through you guys without the install? If not, would you be able to recommend one that is as close of a product that is available somewhere? Thanks alot!

It sounds great, but you're still trapping the moist vapor under the floor covering. It won't be able to evaporate into the basement air space. What am I missing here?

am wondering the same. he emphasizes water below the thermaldry insulation "COULD" potentially/eventually dry out wall to wall. lets assume thats accurate. what about between the thermaldry and whatever you put on top - LVP etc? wouldn't it just move the potential problem up an inch?

Larry, I have a slab floor with no wooden framing. We are renovating the ground floor of a house, not a basement. There is no basement.
The floor structure is, from bottom to top, [rebar reinforced slab, 4" -> black hydro insulation barrier, 1/8" -> polystyrene 4" (not yet laid) -> screed 1-2" (not yet laid) -> tiles or wood flooring (not yet laid)].
We are in a very cold climate and will place electrical heating tape most likely above the screed, directly below the walking surface.
What flooring or insulation solutions do you have that you think could either improve or fit into this scheme ?

Mr. Janesky, Can non load bearing framing be installed over thermaldry decking? Can stair stringers be installed over the decking? Thank you.

Hi can it be used on the kitchen concrete floor , where the kitchen is a high condensations area and the floor would need to be cleaned with water ie with floor cleaning products and water? Thanks

What about 1-2" thick Owens Styrofoam panels against a block cement wall. A studded pressure treated bottom plate wall insulated with Roxul .
