    You can play huge, bombastic-style rock fills like you hear on your favorite records by simply adding your kick drum into some simple hand patterns. I’m going to teach you a really fun exercise you can use to practice this, which starts off very simple but quickly becomes a complex challenge. Not every fill should be huge and bombastic, but you always want to be capable of executing whatever is musically appropriate for the song. Have this ability in your arsenal. By incorporating the kick drum sporadically into singles fills, you can very quickly play complex-sounding, impressive fill patterns. The funny thing is - It’s actually easier to play faster when your right foot can step in to give your hands a break. I hope you enjoy this lesson, because this is one of my favorite types of patterns to use around the kit when playing rock. Learn this, and you’ll be sounding a lot like Foo Fighters, The Killers, or Kings of Leon.

    This is exactly what I wanted to learn from my drum instructor in college, but I didn't specify BOMBASTIC fills, so I was basically doing paradiddles with a kick accent and it never sounded right. Knowing the right adjective makes all the difference! Lol

      He's not using the word "bombastic" correctly lol, so don't take it to an instructor lol. I think he's looking for the word "striking" or "full" or "interesting". Bombastic means pompous and meaningless.

    my advice to make fills greater and sound more bombastic is: 1. Use youre Basedrum in your Fills, its okay to play nothing else but a single basedrum hit at a time it sound fucking awsome 2. Use ur Hihat when u play Fills! this mean you play with youre left foot quarter notes on the hihat, u can even go eight notes and so on, just keep sure that ur left foot is playing in a smooth difference between the hit, not going faster or slower! 3. Use Doubles with ur hand, so if you have fills with 16 notes try to double first a single 16th note with 1 hand. my advice is to play the straight 16 and than go to 32nd notes doubles, you need to know the hand movement is exactly the same like th 16th variation, the doubles comes from ur wrist and rebound! 4. before u start a fill go "looser" on ur hihat with foot, try to loosen ur hat when u play it, use ur left foot, but dont do it to much unless u play rock! 5. before u start a fill u can do a buzzroll with ur left or a drag, it sounds amazing and gives more drive to ur fill. 6. play energetic! its important to know that ur muscles play the drums so you should keep a good posture and play with energy! this doesnt mean play loud it means to play in the moment! try out and have fun!

  • @yuuri_
    @yuuri_ 2 роки тому

    one really good fill is RLKK over and over again. but the issue is that if you wanna do it fast, you're gonna need double pedals. and also, don't hit the same drum with both the right and left hit, cuz then it'll sound shit.
    one pattern I really like that I took straight out of Pneuma is snare high tom kick kick mid tom high tom kick kick floor tom high tom kick kick. just repeat that real fast and you got a Danny Carey fill

      Hang in Larry. I'm 69 yo, and returned to playing drums after a 51 year Hiatus. In 1966 I was bit by the Bug to start lessons at a local music store in Flushing Queens NY. After maybe 8 lessons, I got a drumset and played with 2 high school buddies for a couple of years as a "garage" band. We were all learning our i instruments, the 3 of us. Never got out of the garage, but had some fun. I played by ear, never really ,earning to read drum notes in music. Now, 51 years later, I was gifted a cheapo drum kit and started playing at home in retirement. For fun and pleasure. I don't really practice except for just playing along to My Music and playing drums to that music. Best I can anyway. Like anything in this life, Practice does evoke Perfect. Have fun with it....... For the record, I play: Melloncamp, Petty, Stones, Beatles (Ringo was much better than he was given credit for ), Springsteen, CCR, Melisa Etheridge, even some Clapton...... good basic Rock. If i can play through the tunes without missing beats and experiment with added fills, I am a happy camper. Be well and Safe all.

      Hey, not that you asked my opinion but my favorite earplugs that I use as a musician are made by etymotic. They are great at reducing some but not all frequencies so that I can take them to my gigs or even concerts where I want to enjoy safely. Hearoes, or however they spell it also makes a similar design but make sure they fit your ear.
