Nah, carvertical got exposed for being mostly a scam.. not really an intended scam but its certainly far from a good service. Some of their reports look just utterly stupid (hard to explain what I mean since english isnt my natural language :D). They look almost like AI randomly created it...
You can't just straight pipe the Jag and drive to belgium. Were there no cops who stopped you? In Germany 5 minutes after passing the border with this thing they would tow your car and you could walk back to the ferry
@@Kbrd-ut6km Thats not true at all.. also it isnt that loud outside the car. My E39 didnt get taken by German cops so I doubt they would take the Jag :D
I'm in the hospital for Christmas as my last round of chemotherapy did not go to plan. Videos like this are a welcomed distraction and brighten up an otherwise dark day. Thanks for uploading guys love the content.
Hope you make a good recovery, that really really sucks! Auto alex always makes me laugh even when things are a bit shit and is heart warming to know even someone in your situation can appreciate the content aswell. Good luck, keep posting i will look out for you! 👍👍
My Dad's XJ had a misfire and got awful fuel economy even though it seemed to run fine. In the end it was the coil packs. If you're changing one and that solves the issue, change them all because it's likely that the others won't be far off going.
I love this channel and I love how it feels like watching my friends do something special for the occassion. I have a rough low point in my life right now, it is videos like this. That give me that much needed smile and the energy to look up and think, "Maybe this world ain't that bad after all". Thank you and merry christmas.
As someone who had a relative that served in the RAF during WW2, I greatly appreciate Alex and Taylor taking time out of their journey to visit the museum. The brief history lesson was very nice, and I appreciate the editing that went into that part of the video. Cheers all, happy holidays.
My great grandad was in the battle of Dunkirk, got a medal of bravery for his service, wish I could of met him but our family knows what he did for us all, the medal is pretty cool to say the least
You guys crossed on the ship I work on and I served you both, you joked about MPG... So.. She uses 6 Tonnes of diesel to cross 🤣 Was good to meet you. Great video :D
I used to work on that boat, in the Engine Room. She burns approximately 70-75 tons of heavy fuel oil (HFO) a day and when all four engines are running, produces 44,000HP @500rpm.
The operation Dynamo was overwhelming and emotional for every free man in this World! Congratulations for this amazing road trip. Please fix the Jag as we love her (check the MPG and the fuel circuit, we dont want to see her on fire). Greetings from Athens Greece!
Happy Christmas to you and Taylor and your team. You’ve bloody smashed it this year, your content has been exactly what us petrol heads need! Keep it up! Ps I still want you to reboot the podcast from car throttle 😂😂 you, Taylor, Gareth, Ethan and Jack with special guests as usual!
I have to say I truly love the little segments where it gets serious for a short time and you show and explain history of where you have been, it’s a really lovely touch, I hope you Alex had a merry Christmas and that everyone else involved did too and wishing all a happy new year
My grandfather was in the RN on Operation Dynamo helping the troops get back to Britain. On one trip as the Germans were tightening their stranglehold around Dunkerque, my grandfather's ship was overloaded & none of the troops would get off. My grandfather & his mates got off the ship & his ship sailed back to Britain. Stranded, they found an army truck, fixed it, packed it with fuel & supplies & drove through the German lines with the Germans on their tail. They drove to Granville on the Normandy coast, took control of a fishing trawler & sailed it back to Plymouth. It was the first time my grandfather ever drove a vehicle. An interesting way to get your drivers permit! Merry Christmas from Australia lads. Great video!

The pair of you just having a laugh while doing a road trip to Belgium makes for a great video😂,but the trip to the museum and genuine respect you showed about it’s story 👏
Please do more of these with your cars! I really enjoy road trip type videos. I'd love to see some go down into Austria/Switzerland/Spain/Italy etc. Just buy an old car and go have fun there. I think it would make for excellent content as well as great vacations! Merry Christmas you all.
That was a real Christmas treat! Can confirm 10mpg is iffy... I've a 6l V12 XJRS That does low/mid 20s on a run, about 12mog around town. Granted it doesn't have a supercharger, but it does only have 3 gears. Looking forward to seeing that manual box progressing! 😁👍
Would definitely recommend a trip like this to anyone, me and my partner did the same trip a few weeks ago to Brugge Christmas markets and it was a blast. For a cobbley old town it’s got loads of parking that’s cheap and it’s easy to navigate. Some brilliant beers too, we spent half a day stumbling around after a few in the market.
Regarding locking the petrol pump trigger, the last time I remember it being possible, the price was in pounds shillings and pence! One of the things the Americans have actually got right (plus the plastic seals that stop the petrol vapours escaping)
If a XJR got a exhaust leak pre oxygen sensors. Cracket exhaust manifold (Common issue) or leaky gaskets between manifold and downpipe it will give false reading from the oxygen sensort to the ECU causing it to run way to rich. Also as someone else mentioned. Coil packs are a falure point. But for a car of this age and era, with propper maintainance, those are super reliable. Had one as a daily for 5 years now.
Just want to compliment the level of production quality. Very slick editing and cutting, feels like watching a proper little roadtrip documentary. If you manage to nail that down you can literally use anything as content.
For me alex, and this channel are amongst one of the coolest most wholesome and humane car channels out there, nothing i wish more than the uttermost success to them.

Lorry pumps still have the autofill function, when it's not broken anyway, water bottle or tennis ball will fit in there and jam the trigger open though. ;)
Love how excited you guys get over the hold function on gas pumps. Still have it here in the states. It did bite me once(I was stupid and ran inside to use the bathroom). That was of course the one time when the pump decided not to shut itself off when it got to full which is what it is supposed to do. ALWAYS need to pay attention when pumping gas even with the hold feature. I cringe when I see people get back in their car and leave it unattended knowing first hand what can happen. Be glad you don't live in one of the two states here that wont legally let you fill your own tank. That is definitely the worst. If it's too cold out, they will flat out refuse to come fill it up.
Alex was 100% hungover after the beer & ribs night 😂 I've always found the best thing for that is the sickening drone of a too loud exhaust on a motorway first thing the next morning! Taylor completely unaffected... The folly of youth! Also loved the Operation Dynamo section, good work chaps 👍 Merry crimbo 🍻
I appreciate your ability to bring some somberness along with the hilarity you two get up to. I would like to see how much carbon has built up inside that engine. Because when these Jags were new they did a lot more than 10mpg. Or just stick some Redex inside the fuel tank and find somewhere where you can legally do over 100mph. Burn off all that carbon out the exhaust. Then see how much of an improvement you get in terms of MPG. Early 00's Audi and VW petrol cars are also notorious for carbon build up inside the engine (so it's not just old Jags).
Please Alex hire Ethan and jack as part of your team you three are always having a laugh together. Would be nice to have them both on your channel. Keep up the excellent content Alex. 👍

I'm some what amazed that Alex is old enough to remember locking fuel pumps in the UK since any self service pumps were supposed to have the locking disabled around 1969.
Me & three mates went to Le Mans in 2008 and on the way home decided to detour to Dunkirk, avoiding the toll roads. We nipped over the border into Belgium for a pint, but the entire country had shut at 6pm, so we had to go back to la France for une biere et un Croc Monsieur.

My commute to work is within a single state in the US and takes 60 minutes. In roughly 3 hours these two went to 3 countries, I thought Europe was bigger
Misfire at idle and high fuel consumption usually means a cracked exhaust manifold or bad lambda sensors on the AJ16 - if it idles nicely until it has warmed up and gone into closed loop it's almost guaranteed to be the answer, or a bad engine temperature sensor. could also be something as dumb as wrong lambda orientation - it's easy to plug the wrong sensor into the wrong plug when changing them.

Love Taylor, the chemistry is top tier. But I do miss Jack and Ethan. Bering them on the channel as a special, I would love to see jack and Taylor together
Awesome video! Alex would really not get away with being so charismatic if he had the exact same looks, behavior and jokes, if he bad a eastern european accent
I dunno why, but i've always liked a car that has a single wiper, this Jag, original Panda, Citroen AX/ZX. Anyway, great video and happy christmas to you all.
What a great episodes guys. Such fun!!!! Really makes me miss UK/European Christmas time with all the lights and markets. Unless you live outside of the northern hemisphere you don't always realise just how magical the cold and early darkness can make Christmas time so special. BTW, I think the Jag may need a muffler or two?!?!?!?!?
Mpg - reckon it’s metres per gallon, or even gallons per metre for the ferry. Really enjoyed your channel and it’s been great seeing Taylor working with you. Thanks for the extra bit about Dunkirk - wasn’t expecting that but nice to see a bit of history. Is that something you’re both interested in? Happpy new year to you both.
I use to go to those Belgian cities, from northern France they're not far away, Bruxelles is 1h30min and gent even less. Everyone should travel and discover that small country, but still beautiful country.

Your videos are always a source of a lot of positive energy. They always make my day! Keep up doing what you're doing, you guys are great!
I’m only 36 been driving since i was 17 and I remember being able to lock the fuel filler to fill, I was telling my wife about it, she didn’t believe me and thought I was going insane because I was adamant you could do it in the Uk..
A first of many (I hope) of Christmas specials. One of the best channels on UA-cam. Keep up the good work 🎉
I loved the carwow video with mat Watson and yianimize and Taylor best trio
Really appreciate the history lesson, it's incredibly important that we remember our history.
Merry Christmas from the USA we enjoy watching you guys ,still waiting on the second spray can paint video :)
Love Taylor, the chemistry is top tier. But I do miss Jack and Ethan.
Bering them on the channel as a special, I would love to see jack and Taylor together
The presenting, editing and filming is all better that the current Top Gear 😂
Its worth looking at the temp sensor for the ecu, it would explain the mpg and possibly the rough idle (rich af)
Awesome video! Alex would really not get away with being so charismatic if he had the exact same looks, behavior and jokes, if he bad a eastern european accent
This was absolutely lovely. You guys have the best chemistry and Taylor is amazing! WE LOVE TAYLOR!
I dunno why, but i've always liked a car that has a single wiper, this Jag, original Panda, Citroen AX/ZX.
Anyway, great video and happy christmas to you all.
Always enjoying these episodes 😁, kinda reminds me of old Top Gear. And by the way, Taylor's got some really good taste in watches.
I love rewatching this. I wish I had friends like you guys.
Merry Christmas to you all, great little video! I cant wait to see the manual swap!
Looks like a fun trip, as evidenced by 12:55 where, in the morning, Alex's voice is about 5 octaves deeper than normal 😅
We went to that museum in Dunkirk back in April, a fantastic place and it’s awesome you promoted it as it’s a must visit
A video from Alex is a great Christmas present 🌲🎅❄️
Merry Christmas Alex and team! It's actually a little weird but amazing to see my hometown on youtube
Editing is top quality here! Really good production quality
I use to go to those Belgian cities, from northern France they're not far away, Bruxelles is 1h30min and gent even less. Everyone should travel and discover that small country, but still beautiful country.
I live in Belgium for 22 years and I didn't even know will you learn something everyday
Thank you Taylor. This was a great video.
I also commend you for entertaining the vertically challenged during your euro trip
