    • @benjaminclegg7109
      @benjaminclegg7109 11 місяців тому +1

      What if it isn't about fate - but a revolutionary theme. Gardiner very likely identified the correct inception here as being born from the revolutionary song "La Liberté!" for the famous motive. Beethoven himself told a fellow composer many years later that "If people knew what I put into my music, I would be behind bars."

    The correct tempo and orchestral dynamics make this an absolutely amazing experience of what Beethoven intended his works to sound like. Modern interpretations certainly have their place in the cannon, but to my ear, nothing can compare to the vibrant, lively character that Zander brings to the piece in his pursuit of Beethoven's original vision. Bravo!!!

      Who says its correct and why do we have to believe them Are too frightened to live with uncertainty or is too easy to have some authority decide for us Sorry but there are places in the lst mvmt where the tempo must slow down a little anyone with good musical ears can hear them

    • @MiravusVideos
      @MiravusVideos Рік тому +6

      @@williamsackelariou1860 well, Beethoven says they're correct, lol. These are his tempi! Who would know better what speed to play his music than Beethoven?
      If you're saying you prefer a slower tempo, that's fine. Maybe your ears do like it better, but that doesn't mean that this isn't the tempo Beethoven always intended. For my money, I much prefer Beethoven's tempo for Beethoven's music vs. modern slow and dragging interpretations that neglect Beethoven's instructions for how to play his music.

    Wonderful. The first 8 notes are perfect. Will never understand why they are played so slowly and non abruptly in other renditions. This whole recording is really ferocious and unrelenting, with almost percussive strings; and yet so incredibly tender at points - never more so than with the oboe, which manages to cry out without wilting and dragging the tempo down. Approaching perfection. Was hooked since hearing Ben Zander's junior Boston orchestra. Now I'm unable to listen to any other version than this..

    I read all the comments and i have to agree with all. Music is not played only for 1, everyone has learned differently and has a different idea in mind. To the people that think it’s too fast, that’s only because Zander has a different idea. To the people that like this tempo, hopefully this is orchestra is glad you enjoyed it.

      @@searchmeinyoutube Zander definitely more faithfully follows the score but personally I can't shake the feeling that 108 is too fast. Sure, playing at a faster tempo may add to the intensity and energy in some sections, but in just as many it just ends up conveying that "rushed" feeling (most notably in the slower, more sweeping section of the B theme).
      Don't get me wrong, I'm not for the painfully slow renditions of this peice such as Bernstein's either, but I do personally think Kleiber's interpretation fits the score better--it's fast and energetic, but not to the point of feeling rushed.
      Plus, Klieber is actually relatively quite faithful to Beethoven's score throughout, although not quite so much as Zander--his third movement, for example, uses the correct tempo taken in 4/4 time, just like Zander. Overall, I'd say Kleiber's interpretation is the perfect blend of faithfulness when important but also creative liberty and personal musicality when it works.
