    You can't get closer eternal excellence than Beethoven in the hands of Maestro Zander. I hope God and Beethoven are watching.

    Given the respect Mr. Zander has for Beethoven’s works I feel like he is giving us the most authentic Beethoven experience he can think of and he is a legend so it doesn’t get better than this joyful performance

    Ben Zander, a true purpose driven person, love his work, but especially the tempo in which he plays this! Amazing....

    After watching the pre-symphony master class, who else was watching the trombone guys through the first, 2nd and third movements? After having nothing to do the first three movements, they came on like gangbusters on the first notes of the fourth. They were probably happy they finally got to play.

    this "wake up" version of the first movement really gives another view toward the fifth that i've always known.
    this performance along with Jarvi + DKB are probably two of the most uplifting interpretations of the piece. Bravissimo!

    I am just realizing that at these tempi, the first plus second movement take 15 minutes, and so do the third and fourth movement. That kind of sense of proportion can't be a coincidence.

  • @asshatteryengaged813

    My only critique: play the whole symphony as one video. Breaking it up by movements (yes thankfully they kept the third and fourth together) goes against everything Maestro Zander und Herr van Beethoven would want, I suspect. Otherwise, brilliant! 👏

    • @Gumboz1953
      @Gumboz1953 3 роки тому +5

      Agree. The symphony isn’t that long. It could’ve been one video.

    • @HeySenthil
      @HeySenthil 3 роки тому +7

      Totally he even said in pre-concert not to clap between movements to carry the mood. Then we have here broken into three videos.😭

      They get more ad revenue this way, so im fine with the separate vids if that means i help the orchestra out.

      Go to the concert or buy a recording if you want the whole thing together. They all worked so hard to create this so it's a privilege to be able to hear it at all for free from the comfort of your home

    transition back to the exposition repeat of the finale is magnificently handled as an intensification of the texture - never understand why some people don't play the repeat, it's a crucial intensification of the opening material of the finale and I think needs to be played with this degree of tightness
    my only point of critique would be that I prefer hard sticks on the timpani in Beethoven - I think the music needs that "thwack"
    the passage beginning at 12'23" is my favorite thing in the entire symphony and the way he lets the 1st trombone ring out at the top of the passage at 12'41" is rarely this impressive in performances but that note is critically important to resolving the harmony. that alone makes this a miraculously god performance - what Beethoven is doing is resolving an implied diminished 7th chord at that moment and it's critical to making this feel like the tension and violence of the preceding material is becoming something affirmative and joyous. Beethoven said music is like an "electrical soil" and this performance has high voltage as it should. bravo

      My guess is they CLICK on like at the end of 1st movt, then after the second movt, some were too eager to click on next video and hence forgotten to like it. And after the last move, they were busy clapping and thus didn't managed to click on LIKE!!!

    He must have had a late date or a plane to catch. The tempi are all too fast. What's the hurry? It's hard to hear the trio section of III at this insane tempo. It reminded me of speed chess!
