Never heard this spelled out before, but "Mirror in the mirror" starts with 2 notes, then 3, then 4, etc., one more reflection each pass, little more intensity each time. So structurally efficient, so simple yet so profound :)
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written and played beautifully here, It reminds me of floating in space, and hopefully, toward God after this life has ended. I think this music will be played forever. It relaxes the soul .Thank you Arvo Paart.

Fantastic. Last season of Ted Lasso,Nate plays this. And he was classically trained. Fantastic. To me it means get your thoughts together, head straight! And go lay it on the line to your bosses. Clear your head! March on
I knew I recognized this and I looked at Wikipedia and it turns out it's been used in 2 movies I've enjoyed, Wit and About Time, and in the trailer for Gravity. It is a striking piece.
If I where an astronaut I would like to listen to this music while walking around the Earth, then I would open a porthole and I would lose myself in the universe.
Bravo messieurs mais j'admire surtout la partie de piano qui est exceptionnelle .C'est la volonté du compositeur bien sur.Le violon n'est la que pour sublimer le piano
Wow. I must admit that as much as I love this composer's works, this particular piece is not one of my favorites. It comes across as being too austere. In this performance, however, the piece takes on more feeling and color. For me, oftentimes the violin sounds thin and scraping. This violinist manages to bring out a much fuller tone than I'm used to hearing in this work. The pianist was also able to break free of the mechanical nature of this minimalist piece. Both performers did a great job. Kudos to the set designer for the sparse nature of the video. The basic black and white aesthetic added to the work where you would imagine it would add to its austerity.
This is beautiful! But question I have is this: What motivation or moment is this piece the most suitable? Funeral? Celebration of life? Love? I could listen to it for hours.
The best moments for this piece are moments that represent a serene, inevitable transition. Death is the most obvious, but other things I think would fit well with it are things like playing through the ball drop on New Year's Eve, or packing a child's belongings on the day they move out.
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so; For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery. Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally, And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
@@01lombana It is from a series of nineteen poems called “The Holy Sonnets” written by English poet John Donne - a central figure among the Metaphysical poets in the 17th century. They were published in 1633, two years after his death. The reason I’ve placed it here is because this musical piece was used in the 2001 film “Wit”. An amazing movie based on a play about a woman battling cancer, and how John Donnie’s piece here affects her profoundly.
why does his bow direction just randomly change directions near the beginning when they switch shots? bad editing or? I thought maybe it was part of a "mirror" thing they were doing but it doesn't seem like it's happening any time else...
Is no one noticing the problem with continuity of the bow direction? Sometimes changing direction in the middle of a note at the change of camera angle? Beautiful music but not watchable if you play a string instrument - Is this possibly a joke of some kind?

Wow, making a massive video editing mistake on the second note the violinist plays. New depths we've sunk to as a culture
99% either aren't watching or don't care, it has nothing to do with culture, go outside and get some perspective friend. You sound very unhappy.
Violinists stealing from violists' repertoire again ;-)
I didn't know the original script written for viola! Interesting.
The original is for violin. Its dedicated to Spiwakow
Violists speaking nonesense again
The video editing is making me ill. Beautiful playing.
I’m sure this is quite hard for the violinist to play well since it’s so exposed and hyper sensitive
Is no one noticing the problem with continuity of the bow direction? Sometimes changing direction in the middle of a note at the change of camera angle? Beautiful music but not watchable if you play a string instrument - Is this possibly a joke of some kind?
These are actors and not actually playing what you hear. Well spotted.

Arvo Pärt is interesting composer, but this piece of music is really boring
Then you are missing the point.
If you pay attention the stillness between the note, you will heal yourself ..
When you are weary, this music will touch your soul...
