    Never heard this spelled out before, but "Mirror in the mirror" starts with 2 notes, then 3, then 4, etc., one more reflection each pass, little more intensity each time. So structurally efficient, so simple yet so profound :)

    This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written and played beautifully here, It reminds me of floating in space, and hopefully, toward God after this life has ended. I think this music will be played forever. It relaxes the soul .Thank you Arvo Paart.

    While I totally understand and accept the need to put ads at the beginning and end of videos, please note that I will NEVER use a product advertised or contribute to a request for help that interrupt the most sublime videos of classical music like this one . The wonderful atmosphere that composers and artists create is destroyed by a mean-spirited desire for money. Please consider eliminating the interruptions . Thank you!!

    Wow. I must admit that as much as I love this composer's works, this particular piece is not one of my favorites. It comes across as being too austere. In this performance, however, the piece takes on more feeling and color. For me, oftentimes the violin sounds thin and scraping. This violinist manages to bring out a much fuller tone than I'm used to hearing in this work. The pianist was also able to break free of the mechanical nature of this minimalist piece. Both performers did a great job. Kudos to the set designer for the sparse nature of the video. The basic black and white aesthetic added to the work where you would imagine it would add to its austerity.

    This is beautiful! But question I have is this:
    What motivation or moment is this piece the most suitable? Funeral? Celebration of life? Love?
    I could listen to it for hours.

    • @david7542
      @david7542 11 місяців тому +1

      This was played at my father’s funeral. But it could be played for a wedding as well. Both are moments that express deep love.

    • @dipperjc
      @dipperjc 10 місяців тому

      The best moments for this piece are moments that represent a serene, inevitable transition. Death is the most obvious, but other things I think would fit well with it are things like playing through the ball drop on New Year's Eve, or packing a child's belongings on the day they move out.

    Death, be not proud,
    though some have called thee
    Mighty and dreadful,
    for thou are not so;
    For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
    Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
    From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
    Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
    And soonest our best men with thee do go,
    Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
    Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
    And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
    And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well
    And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
    One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
    And death shall be no more;
    Death, thou shalt die.

    • @HAL_9000__
      @HAL_9000__ Рік тому

      @@01lombana It is from a series of nineteen poems called “The Holy Sonnets” written by English poet John Donne - a central figure among the Metaphysical poets in the 17th century.
      They were published in 1633, two years after his death.
      The reason I’ve placed it here is because this musical piece was used in the 2001 film “Wit”. An amazing movie based on a play about a woman battling cancer, and how John Donnie’s piece here affects her profoundly.
