Today I go through the arduous task of fitting the front latch panel to complete the main part of the 912 backdate. The sooner the backdate is done, the sooner we can pull the engine and begin the EZ30 R Swap!
This is part of my Lästern Subaru Porsche Swap Kit. For more information: rennch.com/lastern

This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

Looking good. Mine was simpler, as I have a short hood inner skin and a long hood outer, so all I had to do was extend the latch. But it was all fibreglass and I had that headache to deal with. All out of steel is the right way to do it.

I can't even picture that! I forgot yours was a backdate too.

As they say - steel can weld, fibre can but itch.

Back in the late 70s/early 80s when young me was first getting into cars, the big thing with 911s was updating long-hood cars to the G-body look. it's funny how tastes change

More power to you, I cannot work on the ground, I built tables on castors for all my work so I can move my whole workshop to make space. I also have an i-bean built into my roof with a movable hook on industrial bearing so I can hook up a block and tackle for pulling engines or tubs or quads etc. makes my life so much easier. Good job here man. Love the Porsches.

Looks good. You are certainly getting the hang of this stuff.
As a 912 owner I cringe a little at modifying a quite limited version of the 912 (only around 2100 made). But those 912Es are so underpowered that logically it makes sense. I replaced the front panel on my 912 years ago. It wasn’t perfect but I’ve learned a lot since then. 😂.

I agree on both fronts. But I like to look of the early cars so much more anyway, and now this guy will have a "forever" car.

@@rennch. I get it - I have a Subaru swap waiting in the garage. Keeping the 912 engine for later. 180hp is definitely better than 90hp. 🫣

    Hi my friend,
I’m doing a backdate of my G body from France 🇫🇷 and you need to contact 9XX TEILE (Belgium) for the hood and other cool stuff. Let me explain : they use short hood chassis to make long hood. So you have juste to switch the latch, no cut no replacement.
My video coming next week if you want to see.
Good job like the blasphemy build!
Hope is useful for you and your community and sorry for my English !

As someone who owns a concours 912E, parts of this were hard to watch. Looks like you’re having fun though, curious to see the final result.

Any reason you didn't go with the turn signal buckets that could have been welded on the original front fenders? I'm contemplating backdating my SC and thought that would be a good route as the original fenders are already fitted to the car. Also, far and away the best video on removing and installing the latch panel, thank you so much!

Hi Mike this must have been a MAMUT task, so much metal work. You need a propper workshop with a lift not work on the floor all the time... So much energy you glow.

Mike you are moving along on this project quickly, I was thinking if you Tig weld the flares I would set up the two flares you cut off as practice, pieces, if your machine can pulse weld this is a great opportunity I would start at about 20 amps and do some test runs. The problem is with tig and sheet metal is if you are not on the money you end up blowing holes through the panel, and nobody’s got time for that ..
