Never change the format, yours is the best comicbook chanel on YT, thx again Matt! Not to mention the great choice of music as always!
Thank you!
Glad this channel made this video. Paper Girls really deserves the attention.
they filming by my house in thornton illinois
This review made me want to re-evaluate my life, and I want to hug you and cry into your shoulder. Keep up that amazing work, Matt.
Thanks! I keep accidentally doing this to people.
I just finished the comic minutes ago and I was praying for a video like this. Thank you so much. Brian K. Vaughan is truly a gifted writer.
I just got paper girls 1 and omg I’m hooked! Going back to my book store to get the rest of the series. I got my sisters into it as well 👏🏽🎉🙏🏽 so thankful for this author 🙌🏽 comic pictures are awesome!
you know you are having a good day when Matt puts a video about comics; especially image comics.
Great job. My favorite comic book these past years. So sad to see it end.
Just finished the comic and wanted a video essay on this amazing story; did not disappoint. Thank you for such a great video!
New Matt Draper Video! YES! 🎉😍 Also nice choince! I've already expressed my love for the Oath and I'm reading Saga for the first time currently.
keep seeing these on shelves but I've never picked them up for some reason
will definitely check them out now. thanks matt :)
Now this is some refreshing stuff to watch. Keep it up!
been one of my fav current comics great work my dude
Wow, i really need to read this again. I enjoyed it reading week to week but you definitely brought up some stuff that made me want to re-read it
Loved these comics. Solid video.
Wonderful analysis. Substantial and to the point. You put into words everything I felt but couldn't explain about the series.
Love Paper Girls, and Loved your video!!!
You've done a good job mate. Everyone appreciates you for that.
Matt at @thegameshow sent me here, great video! Paper Girls is one of my favourite comics & it's great to see others understanding & enjoying it too!
Thank you for this video
I read this about 7 months before the show came out.
I still haven’t gotten around to watching it but the comic is dope af.
I gottta pick up the volumes one day.
I borrowed them from a friend.
Matt Draper new video, Dust in its background, tea in my hand. Let's go.
Great breakdown of the ending… the show has me rethinking about this story all over again, and I remember thinking, what was the point if everyone forgets and I think you nailed it
Great video essay. I will definitely have to check this book now. Cheers!
I got hooked on this series about a few pages into the first volume. I absolutely love it, and it's funny cause I had always seen it in stores and on Amazon but never gave it a second glance, but now that I have, I love it! Everything about it is great.
Amazing video about an Amazing comic!
this prepare me for the new show of amazon. Thanks Man! Great work!
Your videos are excellent! Keep it up!
Seriously, love your videos. I may have witnessed a few spoilers, but I think it was totally worth it.
I made the plunge and ordered these books, can’t wait to read the whole story!
Interesting stuff, indeed!
Matt you beast! This is definitely one of your very best alongside your fantastic It Follows video. The editing, compositions, use of colors and texts, the soundtrack, narration and of course analysis! Extremely well done, you can see and feel your passion and hard-work on this one! Can’t wait for your next videos!
Thank you! This is easily one of my personal favorites, as well. It was lots of fun to make.
Awesome video! And I was spoiled, but I knew the risk, and I was willing to take it.
I can't to reread the first issue of Paper Girls and start reading this series that looks awesome.
Thank you again for creating this awesome video :D
Take care.
I live for your content. It inspired me to look beyond the visual work. Thank you and Thanks for the Videos
Thank you! I feel extremely flattered!
That's a really good dive in, for me who knows nothing about the comic. Thanks a lot! This allowed me to decide if I want to read it or not.
One of my favorite series of all time. Plot is very confusing (in a good way) but like you said, it’s all about the characters, who I love!
It’s funny how I’ve always seen paper girls, in the comic book store but I never actually picked up the comic.
Looks like I’m definitely gonna have to check it out.
Haven’t read this yet, but since Matt Draper made a great video on it, got to put it on the list of things to read. Besides I really love Brian K. Vaughn’s “Saga” so... ;)
P.S. Will you cover Saga?
Anything Matt covers is pretty much a buy for me. Hell, he made me consider buying that Godzilla book he covered a few weeks ago and I'm everything but a monster fan.
Edit /PS: if you're a fan of Vaughan you might wanna read Dr Strange the Oath. That book changed my life a few years ago and Matt covered that too.
Oh I’ve read The Oath. Amazing!
Not sure about Saga. I'm behind on it so I don't have plans at the moment.
Thanks!
What a tremendous lesson on life!
I see a future tv show on a Streaming Service.
U are correct! Ur future telling has come true
Perfect timing brother
I'll give this a read. Awesome review.
great video matt, you are amazing
Thank you!
Such a damn good video.
Great channel. Don’t change.
that's so cool^^imma try to read it before the release of the prime video series i think
Awesome song at the start of the video.
I'm glad you mentioned the intergenerational conflict aspect. I'm currently doing a re-read of the series in preparation for the Amazon adaptation, and by the time I got to the ending of Vol. 4, I started really appreciating the significance of the time travel war plot.
I personally think this is BKV making commentary on the current, real-life divide between the Baby Boomers and Millennials, and how Gen X is, as Stealers Wheel once put it, stuck in the middle with clowns to the left and jokers to the right.
a small suburb in Cleveland called "stoney strea" aka Rocky River ohio lol im sold on this comic already
I like this show
Thanks for making me want to reread all of Paper Girls AGAIN
It’s perfect for rereading again and again
Would really love seeing a video analysing Gideon Falls. Amazing job as always. You are one of my favorite chanels
Thanks! I actually haven't read Gideon Falls yet.
I'm going to read this series
Came here after getting the Humble bundle to see if Paper Girls was worth my time. You sold me by 1:13
this series meant a lot to me, i’m both happy and sad that it ended :( lovely video, you really did this series justice!
Was BINGING this in class took me about 2 maybe 3 days ? Because I wasn't paying attention... I was reading this 😭 definitely one of my favorites and DEFINITELY going on my wall later this year
Masterpiece video Matt you should cover more BKV work
Resonance was the best music choice for this
Borrowed the first volume from the library and didn't like it, but you've convinced me to give this series another shot!
Your channel is mucho fantastico 🤟👌
You should do an episode on Wicked and the divine since it just ended. And one for East of West once that series is over
I really must read this series as soon as humanly possible. 😁
Immediately adds all 6 volumes to my Wordery wishlist.
Cheers! 🍻
Magnificent.
PD: You said in Twitter that you were gonna do a video in December about either Paper Girls, IT or Stranger Things if I remember. I suppose it's now going to be about either Stranger Things or IT, right?
Thanks! This is the video that was going to happen then, I bumped it up.
Man, I REALLY need to read Paper Girls. Isn't it getting it's own series, right?
Also awesome video, Matt!
Yep, it’s supposed to be an Amazon series
@@MattDraper will look out for it! I'll try and check out the comic as well. Your video was awesome, as usual, Matt!
I think this story looks interesting. It's nice to see from a different perspective. At least imo
Dude, you should make a video on Spider-Man Life Story. IMO, it's one of the best Spidey stories.
I haven't read it yet, but I'm hoping to read it soon. And then we'll see!
they filming a amazon show right by my house now called paper girls….is this it?
Very interesting, I’m curious how the Amazon Prime show will be 🤷♂️
Mac and kj are just 🤌✨
I’m here because I’m auditioning for Tiffany :))
Yo they filming on my block on the 28th
did u hear about the amazon series?
what's with you and Home music?
You should do video on Kurt Besiak run on the Avengers Run
I really want to apply for Mac for the tv show but I don't think I will be allowed
Aww how come?
Alright, now Y the Last Man has to be added to the list
YO WTF! I just started reading this and you put up a video...I wont watch this until I get to volume 5 ?
Can you do Daytripper?!? Please?!!!
It’s on the list of topics to cover someday.
Who’s here because they are auditioning?
Lol me but I'm losing hope:/
me im so nervous
@@macnina2x305 girl same
@@nemooo494 who are you auditioning for?
@@macnina2x305 Tiffany! you?
Please stop scrolling if you auditioned. If you see anyone saying that they got a role, they are probably lying or got scammed. This is a series of high interest which means that there are a lot of auditions. As someone who has done a lot of auditions earlier, I can tell you that it can take even up to more then a month before you get a callback. So anyone who tells you they got a callback, probably got scammed or is just lying. Goodluck
Who’s auditioning for the tv show?!?!
Me😅
@@mae4814 who did you audition for?
I went for kj
@@TarniaF I went for Tiffany I hope we get to work together ❤️!!!
Good luck everyone ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hearing Matt Draper say Neon Genesis Evangelion excited me in a way that made me uncomfortable. Make the fucking video, Shinji.
Yo
shame the show didnt pan out
Who returned here after the tv trailer?
So this comic is a fusion between Stranger Things and Back to the Future
And now it has it's own tv adaptation
Not gonna lie I didn't like this series. After reading Saga (and still waiting 3 years for it to continue) I thought this would be a good switch but honestly it was meh. The coloring is really good, the story is all over the place (not in a good way) and the ending (though after watching this video) did have a message I can't get the fact that everything the Girls did in the comic (for themselves) was ultimatly for nothing.
But Matt, all comics with even remotely progressive messages are trash by default.
Except the ones made before I was born, those are all fine.
I forgot about that rule! My mistake.
Despite disliking progressives because I see them as another biased politically motivated group I'm going to be balanced:
People read comics because they love comics. Quality not politics.
NOT to be patronized by ANYONE who spends their time using comics as a political weapon while down grading characters as only defined by their gender ect.
Do that? Counter productive. Lessesns the audience's ability to relate to the character and in turn less reason to care about their journey.
As for being better or worse than before your time?
Every comic, film, book ect should be judged on it's merits. Not who wrote it. Not for or against.
That way the opinion is objective unpolluted by personal biases.
Goodnight and peace ☯️
@@davidaston5773 And if that were true, comics would've failed since their inception, since they were political back then, easily even moreso than they are now. Captain America was literal propaganda, Superman was borderline, and Wonder Woman was preaching feminism and BDSM every chance it could. They did not start out free of politics, they did not continue to be free of politics. The X-Men are political in their core. And yet, did people have a problem relating to or loving any of these characters? Not in the least.
What you're saying simply does not match reality. Because the reality is, some of the best works of any media are political, and politics themselves don't degrade or elevate a story. The writing, however, does.
I don't believe you actually have any genuine problem with leftism in comics, I'm pretty sure you're just upset for the sake of being upset, but the simple fact of the matter is, a good story is a product of a good writer, and a bad story is a product of a bad writer. If something feels shoved down your throat, the thing being shoved down is not to blame, the writer is. And if you happen to whole-heartedly agree with what a work is saying, that is also not necessarily a product of a good writer. Only the writing of those politics being good or bad, informs whether or not it is or is not a good or bad story. Complain about the writing, not politics.
THAT'S balanced and objective.
Not that there could ever be objective quality, that's an oxymoron, but you get my gist.
And no, She Hulk isn't a female Bruce Banner.
Peasham My problem with leftism in comics is that it attacks those that disagree with them. And it is added in pointlessly. Like complaining about something like white privilege in a comic book about Superheroes. It's completely unnecessary.
@@thehopefuljudge8671 I'll just refer you to my reply to the other dude. It's clear you're not very literate when it comes to comic books, ESPECIALLY superhero stories.
☼ would be awesome if the leads were boys
Geez i didn't like the 7th grade
And there you have it. We need to insert homosexuality in every story. Regular people don't care about your feminism. We just want a good story. It seems like this era of writers is obsessed with activism instead of story telling. The TV adaptation sucks.
It's made for young girls I think, so their isn't as much feminism as just female-centric storytelling. The wlw relationship was the best thing to do for a story like this if you wanted romance or anything, because instead of adding a male character just there to be a love interest you can keep the story just about four girls.
And, honestly, it was one of the most influential pieces of media I ever consumed as a young girl. I liked the lessons about time and interpersonal relationships.
And I think the TV adaptation wasn't aMaZiNg per se but I liked it and it brought me back to when I read the comics.
Yeah, the ending of this series was bad. They did not complete the loop. Such a disappointment after a good run.
From tiktok?
This book looks really bad.
Oh no it’s the effen best
