Very special thanks to all those viewers that have been with us from under 1000 subs to 400,000 subs! This one is for you :)
WOW!
GOOD JOB
Ayyy, congrats man! Been subbed since you were at around 40k if I'm remembering right, it's been cool to watch things grow from here :D
what is that breathing in the background at 1:05 and 1:20?
Been here since 20-30k
You can't appreciate how gigantic the A380 is unless you see it in person. There was one next to us at De Gaulle a few years back. Absolutely massiveness
massive yes, but definately useless, that's why they stopped production.....and flying on them, pfft.....melbourne to Singapore as an example...1hr 15 mins longer on them....., Emirates wont have their order filled any time soon with the things...
@@whatthe7387 I'm not financially invested 😆
A 380 is a masterpiece which is its owner's pride and the competitors' envy.
The plane is a symbol of luxury, not a means of economy.
@@franciskt4171 nah they didn't spend all that money on them to lose money lmao
I see almost everyday 😅
I wouldn't like to imagine Ryanair flying this.
Oh fuck, the airport collapse
2000 passengers go brrrrrr...
Imagine Aerosucre getting their hands on one of these
Ryanair CEO: 900 passengers? Nah, remove the seats and 5000 passengers will fit inside (very safe, just like in a bus, but in the air)
Oh man they would do it too. $100 a seat, but $20/minute in one of the four bathrooms. Free coffee, though.
I’m a 69yo disabled veteran and and retired pilot. I flew for a living for 35 years. Over all those years I flew a variety of aircraft. The nicest flying jet that I flew was the Lockheed L1149 4 jet engine corporate use aircraft. I was fun. The FAA Examiner who gav3 me the type rating checkride had been President Johnson’s Jetstar pilot. Damn that was a great flying machine.
69? Nice!
Wasted 30 minutes searching Google for a Lockheed L1149... don't think it's exists
@@Fc3s808 that's the jetstar
@Fc3s808 Elvis presley owned one as well and it's on display at Graceland
I think you are talking about the Lockheed L-1329 JetStar. The Lockheed L-1149 was a proposed turboprop powered version of the L-1049 Super Constellation that never went into production. Lockheed made some very nice planes....
Once again a absolute visual masterpiece! I can see the effort put into the models and renders! Some shots even looked real! Very awesome work Nick! Cheers to another 100k!
Thank you sir
omg right! there were moments where i was like "wait!! they actually built them???" lmao
Srilankan
@@Benspringroll they used flight simulator mods 💀
Once again a visual masterpiece the doco tells us the Lockheed has a distance to travel of 3.2k nm or 5.9k km yet the 747(?) flies 7.73k nm or 5.9k km . . . . . Yes what a visual masterpiece ! ! !🤩😵💫 masterpiece of what running out of gas ! ! ! !
7:06 It's so good to finally see a proper range projection and not just the funny circles!
If only the conversion to metric was correct. See 7:18. But I agree with you.
@@erikziak1249 I was reading through the comments to see if I needed to point that out but here you are.
Man. Sometimes I wish we lived in a world where designs weren't limited by practicality
You might get that eventually with a post-scarcity civilization but the concept of mass production would also end.
Anyone who loves aerospace agrees.
Wow! Has it been 2 and half years already? I remember the original video and I'm so happy to see how much your channel has grown. Your skills have also improved a lot!
Excellent points here. Lockheed were the leaders in exotic composite materials at that time (Stealth Fighter, etc), so looking back, yes, they could have instead looked at a small/middle-sized jet with ultra-long range, and experimented with that idea instead. (Hindsight 20-20 etc.)
They needed something like a modernised Lockheed L-1011, albeit in twin jet form. That plane in it's original tri-jet form was revolutionary in its day. It's still beautiful to look at all these decades later.
@@iangodfrey4518 Ah yes, right, and they'd just poured their hearts and souls into the L1011. So right then, they were so ready to one-up that in some creative new direction (like super-efficient composites). What a heartbreaker.
@@craigrmeyer blame rolls royce
@@farhanatashiga3721 Blame Rolls-Royce for what? For the L-1011 not working out?
@@craigrmeyer RR was way behind in developing the central engine if I remember correctly. One of the reasons the L-1011 was late to market which resulted in poor sales. Not the only reason though. There is a great channel called Mustard on UA-cam that did a great video on the plane.
2:10 i like how Lockheed martin is so used to making supersonic jets that they have to specify that the jet is subsonic.
I really like how the cutaway model even showed a few bags falling out of the side of the storage compartment. Nice touch lol.
the cgi is absolutely stunning and looks almost like real life! but if it were built, just imagine a billionaire getting a hold of it and making it into a flying mansion!
It should be the next Air Force One! Or just simply, The Flying White House 😂
Have to say, Boeing made the right call to develop 777 and later 787 while cancelling 747-500 600 and 700... Which would be quite interesting to see those featured next on Found And Explained.
I hope they can recover with recent blunders...
Well Boeing had originally looked at a double deck design based on the 767 for the 777 design, but after modeling evacuation times, aircraft fitment at airport terminals, weight airport aprons were designed to support, etc. They decided that much larger aircraft were self defeating. The short career of the A-380 has proving this.
I was told by someone that Boeing had been messing with Airbus the whole time, and trying to trick them into making a humongous jet like the A380.
The Triple 777 and A 350 are plenty big enough.
I disagree.
👈👈😘😘✈️✈️✈️
I make aircraft video's
Good and interesting as always. But I think there is a typo in the range discussion at 7:18, you use 5,900 km twice in conversion from nm ..
Yes, noticed it too.
Stated is Range 3.200nm (5.900km) for vlsa, and 7.730nm (5.900km) for the 747. Correct values should be 7.730nm (14.300km) for the latter
Yup, I saw that too
Saw that too
I’m an aircraft engineer on the A380 - believe me, she is huge to work and very labour intensive. MTOW of 565 tonnes for an aircraft that can travel halfway around the globe always amazes me. Just don’t ask me about wheel changes and lightning strike inspections and repairs 😮
I just flew on a British Airways Airbus A380 from Miami to London Heathrow. It's truly like being in a flying house. It's incredibly wide and majestic. I was just wondering, how long have you been an engineer on the A380?
@@bobby1970 about 5 years chief
@@peanuts2105 That's awesome.
Flying the A380 is still the most comfortable plane! I wish something like this was built that could give a bit of room to move around.
I've flown many, many times in 747s and A380s and can report there is no difference as a passenger. None whatsoever.
This could've been an amazing cargo plane, like the an-225
That's one thought for what to do with it. But apparently the cargo conversions are difficult to load and unload compared to designed cargo planes. Airbus never developed a cargo version.
Was the an-225 that was, bigger than this one please? Xx
Standard shipping containers are far too heavy to ship by air.
@@MyBelch The biggest military transports apparently occasionally carry one. But the weight does seem like a problem for doing this in any cost-effective way.
You can see the C-5 heritage in the renderings of this thing--I think that was their starting point.
What an amazing looking plane. It would have been quite a spectacle watching this thing landing and taking off.
I like how the bags spilled out when you took the roof off.
The ending was so heartfelt. ❤️ I am really happy to be subscribed to this channel! And looking through the screen: you are very welcome!
Lockheed has never had much success in the private sector, which is too bad. I loved flying on the amazing and comfortable L-1011.
Exellent presentation. You guys found some real gems in the 3D graphics - really good. I love the luggage falling out with the blow-up model!
Thanks for the great detail you go in to for these videos! The 3d graphics are always IMPECCABLE!
Thank you. It's great to have seen this channel grow. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Great video, as always! The detail of the luggage falling down from the airplane at 5:52 made me laugh!!
Always love your videos because of the amazing animations / models you show and the information packed narration! Congratulations on another mile-marker in subscribers!
When we thought Lockheed was already crazy with the CL-1201, they propose this.
I wish Lockheed had entered the civilian aircraft more. Their L-1011 was apparently quite lived and they also had a piston engine/later turboprop that saw success. Shame I was born too late to experience Lockheed’s aircraft.
The Lockheed Constellation/Super Constellation, yes--that was one of the most popular airliners of the pre-jet era. It was a beautiful aircraft--I saw the one on display outside the main building at Seattle's Museum of Flight.
(I'd forgotten that the National Air and Space Museum also has one--but theirs is the military variant, on display at Udvar-Hazy with state national guard livery.)
Super impressed with the visuals on this bad boy. Keep it up!
Absolutely beautiful engineering, Lockheed never abandoned the legendary C5 Galaxy design. 360’ view look around , this beast is definitely “ God of the sky “ ❤ ❤❤❤
The visuals are amazing! Mustard certainly has a rival now
Still this Very Large plane could do lots of good for the Airforce, IF such craft could land without destroying rundways.
Wonderful video! Loved that little figure of Capt. Pickard inside the cutaway view. Awesome.
Thumbs up for the cutaway sequence. I had to giggle at the cargo falling out and Captain Picard standing there... 😁😇✌️
Thank you for doing more bigger planes. I hope there will be much more!
Oh yeah, me too man, me too! 😁
I appreciate you looking at my eyeballs through the screen and thanking me. That felt very personal. You're very welcome! I can say I feel as though I can see you edit your videos through my phone keyboard, and thank you for all of your hard work.
Small refinement, the Boeing 747 range of 7730 nautical miles translates to 14316km, not 5900km. :)
I laughed when the luggage fell out of cargo compartment during the cutaway removal!
Neat little details.
Bro , the Animation and everything Looked so Real... If this Video was shown at that time then we might have seen this Plane in Reality... Love every video you and your team make... The time and Effort goes is very big but the End Result is Amazin... Keep Bringin More... GOD bless you , your team and your families with lots of love and happiness and with good health and wealth...
Awesome content as always F&E
Keep up this beautiful work 👍
You know it's heavy when it has 2 landing gears.
You forgot to mention:
With just a single design flaw, the fuselage could have disintegrated mid-flight under its own weight.
I'm sure the engineers would eventually come up with a design that actually works and is safe.
@@bobby1970 I'm sure those same engineers thought the same for the Boeing 787 Max
@@raidenshotgun5997 Well, at least the Airbus engineers would also be joining in on the project with their own expertise. I still believe such an aircraft can be safely designed and built. There has to be a way.
@@raidenshotgun5997 What the hell is a 787 Max? Are you mixing a 737 Max and a 787?
Are you talking about my wife again? Hee-haw!
That thing looks cool AF!
This plane is my favorite of the never built airplanes despite its flaws. I am glad to see its video get a remake.
Look out for the LTA-ICC.. a 15,000 Passenger ZERO POLLUTION LTA (Lighter-Than-Air) Inter-Continental Cruiser... for a ZERO POLLUTION EARTH... with a Across the World travel for $500-700 per person... each way..
@@AjayAjay-gz3oz Ask me, it's a sneaky way to combat overpopulation. Would I fly on it? At my age, it all depends!😄😄😄
This plane is best for carrying both freighter and passenger similar to RoRo. If built it would be a revolutionary and a milestone in avaition world. Looking forward to see this in my generation.
my goodness is that a cool looking plane, the split rudder and top mounted wings are a combination that looks so good, cant speak for how good it would actually perform however.
wanted to quickly leave a suggestion for a plane to look at, The BI-1 if it wasn't already looked at
just to TL;DR the plane, its a Russian / Soviet Experimental Rocket Plane, and i mean literally... Rocket... it used delta-v to fly alone. wiki on it for people who hate typing -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bereznyak-Isayev_BI-1
Its great to see your animations get better and better with each video!
7:22 7730nm are 14300km.
thanks
I cannot wait to take an A380 flight again. I took one and 2017 it was the best flight ever been on. And I was on the top floor also. This type of plane is purely magical.
I never knew 3200 and 7730 nm both equalled to 5900 km, but it's nice to have less details to remember
5:50 Love how they modeled luggage falling out for no reason at all xD when they ripped the cap back on that bad boy.
Thanks so much haha I thought it would be funny
I wonder if someone has made a model of this for Flight simulator yet? Love to give it a whirl in the sky!
Loved this video! The content is super engaging and well-organized.
Would be nice to see Lockheed return to commercial aviation. The tristar was such a gorgeous aircraft.
It was. Sadly, it competed for airline sales against the 747 and DC-10. Rolls-Royce suffered a lot of problems making reliable composite turbofan blades for the L-1011's engines, and by the time Lockheed could guarantee delivery of TriStars, airlines had already placed many orders for Lockheed's competitors. It was another great, well-designed aircraft that never sold enough units to pay for what they cost to be developed.
Jean Luc Picard @ 6:07. Love it!😉
Very nice video. Small error: 7:17 You copy pasted the range in km over to the 747.
Yep. Just noticed that too!
Imagine they just named it Lockheed Very Large Plane
I wonder what it's size would would've been compared to the Antonov AN-225
Good question. Did the Antonov stop flying after being bombed ?
@@borisyurinov4822 yes it was practically demolished and they don't know if it's worth it to rebuild
@@stefan_5.7 oh well. It was on its way out anyway. Old , too thirsty, no spare parts. Now Ukrane can ask their USA / EU friends to build them a new one. Maybe Boeing and Airbus can help out. And Lockheed Martin can do rockets for commercial planes. 😆
Love it when the acronym includes adverbs like "Very" in them
Best flight in my live was in A380. Its so massive that you dont know if you are flying or you are still on the ground. I am really sad that all companies grounded A380 😢
ANA still flies the a380 called the flying honu (turtle)
not every company
Emirates , BA Lufthansa have been flying them since last year
The A-380 will fly until all of the airframes have to be retired. The transportation model that made the very large civilian transport model economic was hub-and-spoke. To the degree hub-and-spoke became passe, so did the very large transport. I wouldn't call the A-380 an absolute failure but the business model passed it by.
I've never seen the A-380 either in the air or on the ground that I know of. I did see the AN-225 right over my head on the glide path into McChord in Lakewood, Washington. I may have seen the Boeing 787 on its first test flight, but I'm not absolutely sure.
@Phillip Banes
A380 was only made for Emirates.
Others just tried it as an experiment
At 5:50 luggage falling out as the model is dissected. Brilliant.
I think we have reach in an era where big plane are no longer in use
That's pretty obvious lmao
@@foxgaming76yt24 not necessarily - big planes still have their needs. Look at Emirates - they want Airbus to make A380's again because they need more to keep up with current demand in airports like LHR and DXB because slots are hard to come by nowadays. Thus makes sense to use bigger aircraft.
@@coopermurray3265 For Emirates, sure. But it's pretty well known that the A380 did not have sufficient demand within the aviation industry to be considered a success. Nevertheless, it'll be interesting if Airbus decides to resume production again, although, I doubt they will
@@foxgaming76yt24 True. I wouldn't be completely surprised if airbus did come to the table to develop something like a 2 engine a380, providing Emirates would commit to a large order
@@coopermurray3265 I wonder how high the engine will have to be, I expect both the bypass ratio to be incredibly high and be large at the same time, so a new engine is most likely needed, and I'm not sure if any of the main/well known engine manufacturers are willing to design a relatively new engine design just to accommodate for something of a novelty aircraft for a single airline.
This highlights a pretty distinct difference between how East and West approach aviation: Generally with the exception of some civilian aircraft that have military variants, there are no cases in the west of military aircraft with civilian variants. Whereas much of the civilian Antonov, Ilyushin, etc line was military derived. The West keeps the two spheres very separate, and while some stuff might flow from civilian to military spheres, it does not flow in the opposite direction. In the east the two spheres are fairly intermingled.
"It is unsinkable. God Himself could not sink this vessel." - Cal from Titanic 🙄
The wide body looks cool, but makes for fewer window seats to divide among the total amount of passangers.
They should make the giant jet. It’s beautiful. 🎉
Very interesting. The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy military transport aircraft was originally conceived as a large passenger plane.
This design looks like an extension of that original idea. Large cargo aircraft are here to stay. Who knows, right?
7:17 it says that 7,730 nm is 5,900 km - same as 3,200 nm before.
Yep.
My 1st time here. All the tech described in detail. Thanks for the upload.
Impressive plane. But indeed, the demand for big airplanes was once realistic, but changed over the last 10 years. The A380 is one example of that changed demand. Nice sims. Can someone make this plane for X-plane or FS?
5:24 Nice touch of the Boeing SST on the left there 👍🏻
The only airline that is still using the hub and spoke model as its main model is Emirate's and they have said they would like a aircraft to add to the A380 fleet. I really think a refreshed Galaxy would be a great fit and ticks so many boxes, it would hold more PAX and cargo than anything in the market, the cabin can remain windowless replaced with one uninterrupted screen down each side, there would be no gate configuration changes required and cargo loading and unloading would be very quick with the front and back ramps.
Невероятный Самолёт
Im glad it was never built, for one thing where's the taikfin lol? how the heck is that going to get off the ground being so heavy and fly and how much fuel would it need to even fly it!? I lovrd Lockheed's L1011 TriStars and as a passenger back in Aug 1974 flew on a pink one called Halcyon Breeze to Spain. When Court airlines went into liquidation during our second hoilday week we got back to the airport and there it was sitting in the heat hazy shimmer a massive awesome pink bird. The Captain ignored orders to stay put, but refused orders saying he wasn't about to leave his passengers stranded or that lovely plane there. He hurried us all across the runway with his crew and once on board and took off back for Luton. We were so happy. The Captain sent his hat around for a whip round and everyone emptied their notes and cash into it, to help pay for the fuel. He was our hero and got three cheers from us passengers and I never knew his name. If anyone does know, and of course he will no longer be with us, please tell me! I'd love to know! I was about 22 yrs old in 1974 Im now 71 and would dearly love to know who he was xx thank you for this video and good luck with your channel hon. Shared, cared 😘😘 xx

I could see this as a C-5M Super Galaxy replacement. Absolutely gorgeous of a wide body.

I still hum it when I'm watching the videos! Lol
Imagine being the pilot, had a new long shifts, feeling jaded and tired. Hope there will still be two in the cockpit. Who knows, what with new auto piloting systems and human resource developments one pilot aboard for all tasks, or even fully automated via GPS etc
chuffed for you, been watching for well over a year now love your stuff
The renders in this are _bananas._
Having worked on the best airliner of it's generation, the Lockheed L1011 Tristar, I feel a little sad that they didn't build this aircraft.
The Tristar was so ahead of it's time, I feel this would have been too.
Lovely to see someone actually made a video about this plane. A small mistake to be mentioned here.
7:24
Small error there. 7730 nautical miles is not 5900 km, but 14300 km (rounded down from 14316 km).
Love the design of this absoulutely master piece
Getting older, the past is more distant I can say I feel heaps safer in the air nowadays than in the seventies and eighties. The aircraft nowadays like riding an air suspension RV cruising along. The atmosphere, terrain, speed deadliness part hasn't changed, but a Boeing Dreamliner with nice seats (AirNZ) is quite smooth and comfy.
Well, Lockheed has experience building heavy airlift aircraft such as the C-141 and more notably the C-5 which this is reminiscent of except for the tail and lack a rear cargo door.
Found, explained, lost, found again, accidentally thrown away. Good job, guys.
Having the engines as a view, you know you flying budget
I see you, Jean-Luc!

Great video. Looks like Mustard now has competition.
Possible basis for a C-5 replacement. C-5 design is now 60 years old and even with mid life extensions its just kicking that can down the road for a little longer.
Huge aircraft are awesome! However, we have technology to design passenger fuselage sections with emergency in flight ejection systems on the upper deck. Thanks.
