    There are two grades of diesel, known as winter grade diesel and summer grade diesel and it's worth knowing the difference between the two. Winter grade diesel is formulated to contain an additive that prevents wax crystals forming at low temperatures, which means it will resist gelling in extremely cold temperatures.

    • @isaacturnerit
      @isaacturnerit  Рік тому +10

      Where the heck do I buy that?

    • @geoffsmith82
      @geoffsmith82 Рік тому +6

      Probably where you normally buy your diesel. Just ask them.

    • @pouncepounce7417
      @pouncepounce7417 Рік тому +8

      @@isaacturnerit petrol stations sell them depending on time of the year, usual there are stickers that inform what temp the disel sold is good for.
      If you have an big fueltank you may have to add additive that brings leftover summer diesel up to spec

    • @mikef1586
      @mikef1586 Рік тому +4

      @ABusLifeStory if it's cold and snowing where you are at, the fuel stations most likely are selling winter blend diesel. If you fuel up where it's warm, but plan on going somewhere cold, you can buy anti-gel products to add to your diesel to prevent gelling. Any auto parts store, truck stop, or Tractor Supply type of store will have the additive.

      @leehensley7711 Рік тому +5

      You have a cummins then you need to buy power service additive, available at any Walmart or truck stop, etc. You will need it if the temp gets below freezing and definitely if temp is below 21deg

    You are brilliant this is a great set up! Your the only nomadic life person I’ve ever heard say build in redundancy so that if one heat source fails you are still warm. I too always have a back up plans for everything . Im not a van life person but I live in the very cold mountains in Canada. I’m new to your channel so pardon me for offering advice in your last video, you know what you’re doing!

    Love this video. Two things, even if you’re aren’t planning on going somewhere less sunny, you should always have a generator. The weather can change, and you don’t want to be stuck without power. Also you can carry some of those long lasting burning logs, that way you don’t have too carry as many. I was born and raised in the cold, so we insulated everything. Still did when I went down south. Laughed when they couldn’t handle the sudden snow and cold. My car was covered with a insulated cover. I had no issues with frozen doors. 😂

    My dad always carried extra belts. When he put on a new one he would put the older one in the trunk. I asked him why. He said you never know when one of these break . My dad the mechanic. You reminded me of this. I never needed my backup belt but I did help someone that did need it. And it fit. S belt sure can cost one an engine.

    That multiple fuel options is smart! Good for you! We live in a house that's over 100 years old. We actually have two heat sources, but mostly only use the one. We mainly heat with a Wood-burning Stove, two of them; one in the Living Room and one in the back of the house. We have electricity (when it hasn't gone out because of bad weather!) so we have an electric oil heater in our only bathroom, and in the bedroom. Those were our only heat sources until last year - we bought a small generator for times when electricity is out and we need power! I have sometimes had to cook on the wood-burning stove because the electricity was out. It has been out for 2-3 days more times than I like to think of. A few times we were without electricity for three weeks straight, but that time it was summertime, so we only got a little hot as the fans wouldn't work. But we were without electricity for 5 days last winter due to ice on the lines; that was a fun time. My husband does have a Coleman two-burner cook stove we use to cook on so I didn't have to use our wood-burning stove that time. We keep battery operated lanterns and flashlights too. We are on well-water with our landlord who has a generator at his place to keep the pump going for it, so we are okay there. We hope he gets the Solar system set up this summer, as he didn't quite make it this past summer. Everything is set up, just not hooked up as yet. Having options is Always a good thing, especially when you have a small child around! Cute baby by the way! And WOW! It's a good thing you had those options!! Also good thing you had Josh to help you too! Sorry you had trouble with the bus and everything.

    Look into investing in a set of reflective triangles in case you break down again. That way you can set them outside of your vehicle so people can see you broke down.
