I have a stepdad that I don't call dad even though him and mom have been married for a little over 20 years because they got married when I was already an adult. I used to have a room mate. He left for a trip to California one day. That night someone came into the apartment. I drew a knife and stood inside my bedroom door waiting for the intruder to pass my room on the way further into the house. My roommate had been spending that day/night with his gf and had come back to grab something in the early morning hours. He was not stabbed. He never failed to let me know when he would be coming in late after that.
