Ben Affleck on his work in the Congo and the role of celebrity in philanthropy

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ben Affleck receives the Valentine Davies Award for his humanitarian efforts from Writers Guild of America, West President Chris Keyser at the 2015 Writers Guild Awards West Coast ceremony.
In March 2010, Affleck founded Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI), the first U.S.-based advocacy and grant-making organization focused on working with the people of eastern Congo to increase the quality and quantity of investments in a region mired by conflict and instability. Affleck has traveled to the Congo on numerous fact-finding missions, met with countless Congolese, testified before the U.S. Congress on three separate occasions, and held meetings with senior officials in the U.S., DRC and other governments to raise global attention and action toward lasting impact.
The Valentine Davies Award is given to the WGAW member whose contributions to the entertainment industry and the community-at-large have brought dignity and honor to writers everywhere.
The Writers Guild Awards West Coast ceremony was hosted by Emmy-winning Friends actress and The Comeback star/Co-Creator Lisa Kudrow on February 14, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The Writers Guild Awards honor outstanding writing in film, television, new media, videogames, news, radio, promotional, and graphic animation categories.

Wow, What Ben is doing in Congo is amazing. To think of going out of his way to do good in other countries and give a change to a country in Africa. We can all be amazed by his work and how kind, human, generous, genuine, honest this man is. Kudo's to him for his implication!

Ben is a wonderful person with flaws as all we are. Yes, he is an actor but in spite of that he has stepped up to help others. I commend him.
