5° Celsius must feel really cold for you folks who are not used to it. 😉 Seriously though, you need warmer clothing than the gear you were wearing that day.
I've said it before, Senior you did a hell of a job raising Junior. Have you ever thought of having a boys camp for the summer. You could teach those boys a lot that they sadly don't get from home. You're a natural and could have another revenue stream. Always enjoy going along with you guys! Have fun! Junior always has the right attitude, it makes all the difference.
I love the channel, Sr you are a great roll model for Jr., Jr you are such a grown person for your age, I know you're over 21 but still a fine young man. Old Glory comment by Sr. warms my heart, thank you for your service. Hoorah.
Sorry to comment again, I used to be a fish taxidermist did many replicas. The best thing you can do to help the taxidermist is get great close up photos of the various parts of the fish markings. They are all unique and the goal is to paint the fish to look just like yours. Hope that helps.
I have family in Ely! i love that town! so much history and such a great place to visit! its not related to much of what you guys do, but there is an old steam train ride that takes you out to Ruth and back and they do an old west train robbery on the ride. its good fun!
I grew up fishing for Northerns, cleaning and eating them. A lot of people whine about the Y bones, but if you don't bolt your food like a starving piranha, they are not a problem, IMO. They are good eating pan fried but most people around here pickle them. I've also grilled one split in half.
I liked the charcoal ovens vid. History is very important. Great pike, looks like it was a blast to catch them. Also interesting inking project, never saw that before. Thanks guys!!!
If some of the people weren’t into the charcoal ovens, then they aren’t into history. I’ve enjoyed every one of your videos. You care about history of the places you hunt or fish which makes the videos even better. Keep up the great content.
Nice pike !! I catch pike while trolling for walleyes on Saginaw Bay, Michigan. Back in the 1980's I went to northern Ontario with a group of friends pike fishing for 10 days. 6 red and white spoons would end up destroyed, you would catch 100 fish a day casting and trolling. Great times!
@@SinCityOutdoors We have pike that size in Rivers and lakes in England, too. Those things can take your finger(s) off very easily. It's not unusual to see ducklings and other waterfowl swimming, only for them to disappear under the water suddenly, without even a splash, never to return. You think you've miscounted them, until another disappears. The pike are that stealthy, and very efficient hunters.
When I was a kid about 55 years ago used to go cave lake and camp and ice fished in the winter, always had small leaches hanging off you when you got out of the water. Also had picnics in the charcoal ovens. I miss those days when I was growing up in Ruth. I'm glad you enjoy one of my favorite places in Northern Nevada.
I’m from Minnesota and love catching northern pike. It’s crazy to see how they are so frowned upon in Nevada but makes sense. Sadly Minnesota fishing isn’t what it was 10 years ago and pike especially in well known Minnesota lakes are getting harder to catch.
I blew through Ely both ways on a trip from Boise to LV! While in LV, I noticed signs promoting the Nascar race. Since I was there to do repair work for my daughter, I asked her to take me to the Nascar race! Yay! My 2nd race in person! My step-dad was a big fisherperson(?), me, not so much. Great post, guys!
What a fantastic cross cultural experince! Fun day of fishing and an even better story with the print to display featuring a great predator like the pike. Well done guys!
My wife and I like to backpack in the Ruby Mountains always stop in Ely on the way up. It is a cool little town. Turkey Vultures would roost for the night at the cemetery in the trees by the children section if I remember correctly. Kind of creepy but great trout fishing in the streams and lakes in the northern end by Ruby and hidden lakes. A lot of deer and elk. Great video 👍
Great job yall. I found your channel ever since the Army moved me over here to Southern California at Fort Irwin. I can't wait to travel to some of these locations and do some fishing.
Up here in Saskatchewan, Canada I have a lot of success using spoons, specifically a yellow spoon with the 5 of diamonds for catching the northern pike. Always a good fight with the pike.
Senior awesome job raising these boys. I try teaching my younger son the outside and sports. So much to life outside of the house and away from the ipad
Jr. I agree. I have been fishing for approx. 75 years and one of my favorite fish to catch is pike. Many years ago I used to guide in Ontario for walleyes and pike. I would make a shore lunch of the fish we caught that morning and most of my clients never knew they were eating northern pike, but they enjoyed the meat even more than the walleye. The only caveat is the pike have to be caught in very very cold water. In warm or muddy water they are not worth eating. LOVE catching them! Troy Ball Lake Havasu
I've been a fan for a couple of years now, and I always enjoy the content. I really enjoy the Father/Son dynamic. Junior, you're a lucky man being able to do what you love along with your Dad. Senior, you've raised some great boys. Keep the videos coming, Fellas!
Great Video! Nice size Pike! I am from Minnesota and have fished for Pike many times in my life. Only thing we do different than you two is, we bring a net to get them in the boat. Senior's hands could have been saved.
I lived in New England and you could have had that fish made into a trophy by a taxidermist. I always enjoy your videos. I like how you always explain the history of the locations that you visit. God bless!!
Japanese rice paper fish painting. I've done this for years take a sponge and get paint that matches the color of the fish we should be green and whatever colors that you can match and a sponge and just dab it throughout the fish just like you see on the real one and it'll come out looking more like a real fish try it you'll like it let me know how it works out. Good luck keep up the good work on the channel
Cool ink print. Being and artist/art teacher and an avid fisherman I probably should try doing that sometime. The toughest thing for me is what to do with the fish afterwards as I really don't care to eat most freshwater fish.
Enjoy your videos! The Japanese ink/rice paper transfer technique is a great simple way to record your ctch! Now you have a framable wall display able piece of art..and I assume at a reasonable cost!
Hey I enjoyed the cold ovens. I also admire every video you guys have put out on Lake mead. I've grown up there. Moved to california. All I have is your videos to go with thank you for your love
🎉🎉🎉 OK…. First of all, Who forgot the NET??? I really enjoyed that video on the charcoal ovens. And I love that rice paper trick. You guys always show the BEST of the BEST! Thank you and God Bless,Carlos Btw, how’s your brother doing?
funny to hear you guys talking about mercury in the water and limits on how many you can eat.... thats every damn lake, pond, river and stream in the northeast
Try looking up Kyle Sherod in Montevideo, Minnesota. Dude carves wood into fish so lifelike, you'd think they'd jump at you. I'm sure if you gave him the specs, species, & a high-res picture, he could do it justice for a trophy. It will likely cost you a few hundred, though. Dude knows the worth of his skill.
Oh man stinky fish and slimy those were so much fun catching them they would take the bait and run with it love it. My husband had fished for 30 yrs in Canada took him long time to catch a big one, I go up there my first year and catch a big one, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 loved this video. Hope senior brother is during well
Big baits Big fish! 😂 (Note to self: never forget net while pike fishing!) That’s a shame not being able to eat the fish from there but definitely can enjoy the fight. Congratulations on some very nice pike! Great idea to preserve a trophy pike along with the family experience on rice paper! 🔥🔥🔥

Another great video. You guys cover alot of species we don't ever get a chance to see here I'm so cal. Those pike remind me of a barracuda or wahoo only fresh water. Good times
That was so interesting the way to capture a trophy fish without having to mount it !! Never knew this technique existed !! Thank You so much for this info !! Great catch both of you !! Thank You for another great video 📸 !! ❤ It !!
Minnesota is full of Taxademists, look them up and put the fish on ice. Another way to preserve a fish is to incase it in a polyurethane resin, my cousin did that with a lake trout and made a coffee table out of it. Take care, love your videos, and if you ever want to fish in Minnesota, let me know by January because that is when I have to plan my vacations. I can take you to some very fun lakes.

Cool rice paper trophy.
My brother in law made mobiles out of his pikes. They were sort of cool but creepy hanging from the ceiling with an open jaw.

Once again another great family, fishing and history video. Even though it’s cold the lake and surrounding areas look beautiful. Thanks again.
As a sign maker and former billboard painter; I find your ink/rice paper transfers really cool! Great job guys on the fishing and everything!

Here in Minnesota, pike are trophy fish, and decent eating. Only place you have to worry about mercury is up around Bemidji, where they mine for iron.

Gut them, stuff them with lemon pepper and spices. Wrap them in tin foil and barbeque.
We can’t eat these but I would love to try that

@@volvo09yes they clarified in the video there’s lots of mercury in the water and fish so they recommend not to eat any fish out of there
