Really wish they did some proper quality control the first time around with the v1 instead of trying to quickly get it out there to generate as many sales as possible. Disappointing from WLtoys but i guess they sort of redeem themselves with the v2 just a shame a lot of people are stuck with a V1 and the cogging issues still. HBX are releasing some very good models lately and if i was wltoys i would be worried! Great vid mate have a good one
Yeah they shouldn't of released the original version the way it is, as well as on the 124017 model the way it has issues with cogging also. Only plus side to this is that they have watched the reviews and also customer complaints and gone back to the drawing board and now done something about it. Cheers for watching Ricky 🍻
It shouldn’t of been released in the first place like it was but the fact is that it did, nothing can change the past. Not condoning that at all which is why I didn’t recommend it in my videos of the version 1 but at least they have corrected the issues since then. Again that shouldn’t of had to happen in the first place

Nice in depth comparison Dave. Still wish I had cancelled my V1 order originally but fitted an 80amp esc to it and improves it big time. Had it on the beach today here in the U.K. and was really impressed.. quick video on the Facebook group.

Fantastic comparison video.
Hats off to Wltoys not only to admit their failures but also doing such a good good reprimanding the issues resulting in a product they can be proud of.
I was expecting the car to drive much better with improved range as well as fixing the cogging issues but I didn't expect it to also be much faster too.
I'm sure they could of fixed the cogging issue with just a 19T pinion with the same motor however they really seemed to put in some proper testing hours as a higher kV would seem counter intuitive how reducing the gearing by 30% (27t down to 19T) then increasing the KV by 22% (3500 to 4300) must of really just hit a sweet spot.
Also I have a idea for a comparison video for you. The new Wltoys 124016 version 2 vs the HBX 901a.
Both a very similar size, similar priced RTR brushless desert buggies with independence rear suspension layout, similar styling and running lights.
Should make for a good comparison 🤔
Yes its great that they have taken note from the negative feed back of the version 1, its a shame though that they didn't release it like this with a smaller 19t pinion and higher kV motor in the first place. Yes I have seen the 901A brushless, I plan on getting one soon to see how it is, looks great on the specs, I haven't watched any videos on it yet tbh. Thanks for watching Andrew 👍🍻

Great improvements on the V2. Funny how the V1 had a longer than usual range during the comparison test. haha. Dodgy radio has its own mind when it wants to! 😆

Good comparison Dave. I don’t understand how Wltoys thought it was a good idea to release v1 with all the obvious issues it has. You would think they would test their own products and have some sort of quality control before mass production.
Yeah they really shouldn't of rushed out and released the original models the way they did because all they did was hurt their reputation by their customers. They do not test them properly and it was the negative reviews we had done that made them go back to the drawing board i think and released this much better Version 2. cheers for watching Dan

Fantastic job on this comparison Dave! When I first heard about version 2’s release about a month ago, I thought to myself, “well they will probably re-gear with a different pinion”, then I heard immediately after that it was a larger Kv motor! That makes total sense and more expensive! It say a lot for WLtoys though, ‘cause as the leader of Cheaper Hobby Grade Rc’s, they can’t afford to drop the ball on something like this and lose a huge customer base. News travels fast today with UA-cam and such and haiboxing is right there to pick them up! This was fun to watch! Now what are you gonna do with the V1?🤪😆💯⚡️🤩✌🏻 Merry Christmas my Friend!🎄🎉🙏🏼

Tip: You can use the V2 transmitter for the V1 car. They bond no problem. You can also use the V2 transmitter on brushed versions, but then the throttle DR will not go to max, so not ideal.
Can you use the transmitter from the 144010, the one with the blue wheel on the 124016 v1 car?

Thanks for your video. My V2 has a smoth respose, and i have seen that you change the V1 respose with the programming card. I expect more more punch in your V1 reprogramned than in V2 out of the box, but i do not saw that in your video.

They redeemed themselves well I think! I know all the v1 brushless models were garbage but it didn't take them long to get a new one sorted. There's no way traxxas or arrma would do that. In fact what they would do is carry on selling the v1 and then sell you the upgrades to rectify all the problems. The x maxx for example came out 4 or 5 years ago with a plastic geard servo and crapped out after a few weeks, in my case 1 week, and immediately sold an upgraded metal geard servo for £105. Today they still sell the x maxx with that same plastic servo. That's only 1 example but I'm rambling already. Wltoys aren't out there to just take your money they genuinely want to make good stuff for a good price! The 144001 in my opinion is the best value RC ever made if you find one for around 65-70GBP

Hi Frank, thanks for watching! i wouldn't recommend it on the brushed esc on the 124018 as 90% of the time it will fry the esc on 3s. Some guys on youtube have gotten away with running 3s but not many have, the esc on those are rated only for 2s lipo.
Here is a video i done to warn my viewers to not use 3S on the brushed models, this also applies to the new 144001 models that have been made in the last couple years and also the 124018 ua-cam.com/video/Osmd8A0gTBk/v-deo.html

Has anyone figured out how to improve range on the V1 equipment transmitter and receiver? I cannot find if both or just 1 of the TX/RX needs replaced. I per-ordered a 124017 last year and got the V1 obviously, I shelved the car till recently and just ordered a V2 motor/plate/pinion kit. If I would need both then would a DumboRC TX4 be a good alternative?
Scrap the wltoys V1 rx and tx and just use a Dumbo or Eachine TX6 setup

There is a lot more to motors than just kv .
What size is original and v2 ? I think the version 2 is a 2845 ? Is the version one a 2845 or diff size ?
Version one is also 2845 @3400kv, they changed the pinion to a 19t as well on v2 to eliminate cogging

Is the only difference you can see is the remote? I heard that the motor mount color is different between v1 and v2? Does anyone know?
Yeah besides the transmitter and receiver being fixed, the motor mount are different in colour as well as the KV of the motor is different as well between the v1 and v2

Did you find any issue programing a v2 ESC. I buy a Surpass programing card for programing the ESC of my 124016 V2, bur it does not communicate, Blue light is blinking in the card.
I never tried programming the esc on the v2

Yes they stcok the parts kit of the V2 but I'd just buy a 3650 motor and change the TX and RX for a cheap dumbo RC one on the original and you should be all good

Yes this has the 19t pinion and it’s not the same as the 104001, I believe that has a 23t

It’s waterproof to a degree, you can run them in the wet but don’t submerge em in water just like most rc cars

Hi Dave, cogging means when the gears in the drivetrain (the motor pinion gear and the Centre drive shaft spur gear) hesitate to get the car going from a dead stop, usually caused by the Electronic speed controller or the gear ratio not being paired correctly from factory. Thanks for watching mate👍

Why does the original not have lag but the V2 does?
The V1 also had lag issues as well as cogging issues

Nice that they have produced a v2 version so quickly in response to all the negative reviews but it leaves a very bad taste in the mouth for those of us who bought early and are now stuck with the awful V1 cars. 😡
Yeah it does indeed, you can solve the issues with a better esc, but as for the range on the original... the stock system is pathetic compared to the new V2

I highly doubt it unfortunately, makerfire has the v2 brushless kit for sale on their website, or tbh just buy a 120A ESC and you should be good on the version 1 as far as cogging, and you change over to a dumbo rc tx and receiver setup for range
